I don't know of any Battlefield game ever having self regenerating health.
Posted via Mobile Device

Bad Company 2 did, although personally I think it handled regenerating health in its multiplayer very well because it took forever. It wasn't like COD's "stay out of fire for four seconds and you're 100% again", it took six seconds to even start to kick in and then took something like half a minute to get back upto 100%. It kept medkits relevant and made things generally more fair.

In all the time ive played ive never noticed actual healing going on....the immediate hit effects wear off that distort your sound field and vision but ive never noticed health regen....though I only play hardcore mode so i couldnt speak for the other game modes.

I think it works like how you say for Hardcore. I don't play Hardcore much because it's usually infested with snipers due to the lack of killer-reveal.

I've played on a few hybrid servers that have some of the non-hardcore elements in it such as the spot on hud feature...I believe they call them softcore....which i like but i like the immediateness of death on hardcore lol.

Yeah I love Hardcore in theory and when you get decent players who play properly it's great. The rubbish players who want to exploit the easier kills and no killcam by camping, padding their stats and ignoring objectives (not only enemy players but my own team) ruin the whole thing for me, though.

If I saw standard severs like that I would play softcore also. I'm a habitual objective rusher so people camping in hardcore mode irritates me.
I play standard mode and Rush maps so Hardcore doesn't really make a difference, we all have to meet at the MCOMs at some point.

I remember the beta fondly loading up the ATV with C4 and rushing the objectives....MCOMs down in first 30 seconds YAY!

Has the NDA lifted? If so I will post my full impressions from the closed beta.

curious to see what you think of it. the general consensus around the web is to not bother and just play BF2 instead.

Well...its a nice diversion but its about as hard to get working as BC2. Constantly timing out while trying to connect to a server, done all the things I can do to get it to work and its spotty at best. Graphics settings randomly work and testing them out is a pain when your dealing with the constant time outs. This is really bumming me out as I had hopes the netcode for BF3 would not be like BC2 yet its shaping up to be like that it seems...

You don't regenerate health in hardcore mode. You have to use a medpack.

IM SO excited for this game. I mean we haven't seen this kind of game in a LONG time. Single player, rail based, boring, rambo style, unlimited ammo, blood bordered-when-hit, bad dialog, kill it all, gameplay is new and exciting.

it sounds like you're part of the very large, emerging group of PC gamers that whines about games not being "new or inventive" just for the sake of whining. not every game needs to reinvent the wheel. the FPS landscape is saturated, pick another that more aptly suits your needs.

Why? How are they related?

Its all being developed by the same devs is how its related. I don't know the intricate details of how the netcode works but we've got unlimited amounts of posts you can find about having problems connecting to BC2 servers since the game was released...then joining the BETA of BF4Free there's already a wall of posts about connection issues (that have a very similar way of manifesting themselves as BC2).

People have "fixes" that work for their machines but not for 80% of the other people out there. BC2 for instance, drops me consistantly after 20-30 minutes of play and I have a hell of a time even getting into a server here lately and people have pegged it as a problem with drivers, firewall settings, game settings, AMD settings, Nvidia settings, having intel instead of AMD, having AMD instead of intel, running background processes, not running the right background processes, etc, etc, etc, etc....

I run my system with the bare minimum going in the background and my sig shows a rig thats current and nothing exotic in the least bit....I expect games to run pretty much right out of the box without problems just like 95% of the PC gamers out there expect as well. I understand its hard to code a program and make sure its 100% compatible with the thousands of different configurations that may be present in the wild.

I was just hoping that DICE was able to go back and look at the huge number of problems with the netcode and say, "ok, how do we fix these problems so it doesnt happen again." If BF4Free is an indicator of the code they will be using in BF3 there are going to be a whole lot of frustrated players.

Im still going to buy BF3 because when the planets align and im able to get on a server, the previous BF games have been my cat's meow, lol.

/end random rambling...

lol...even once the planets align, they better stay aligned for some time and hope you don't get the ever so dreaded CTD of previous releases.

Wow I play bfbc2 nightly & never have server connection issues or drops.

Currently active thread with guys having the same issue I have.....

Though I think i've solved mine by taking my router out of the equation...of all things. I played for about an hour and a half (all time high i think) before the net connection dropped out and then when it came back it reconnected to another server no problems. Fuck you Netgear....

And for this, I hate you :p

lol

it's all good.

what severs specifically are you connecting too? I'd like to connect and see if I have similar issues that you get.

I've been mainly playing on the EVGA servers lately due to their contest going on but I connect across the country to their Los Angelos server and no issues for hours there...

Chicago, Atlanta, NYC, same deal, no connection drops.

Maybe it's server side related and not your installation or connection that's causing the issue.

Most of the servers I play on are Chicago located (being that I live in St Louis) and it's a client side issue of some sort I'm sure of that much. Think I might have fixed it, have to play a bit more to be sure but BF3 I hope doesn't have these issues.

From what i've seen of this game there's no way this is going to run on an xbox.

hehe, maybe it will be the console crowd that finally gets to feel the sting of neglect from a bad port, lol. Turn the tables, how you like them apples motha fuckas!

I really don't think the consoles are going to get a "bad port" they're simply not going to get all the bells and whistles and that's simply because of hardware limitations. Not anywhere near as insulting as the truly "BAD" ports the PC has received in recent memory.

I'm guessing the console port is going to have its own servers though, right? I mean, i can just imagine the screams of impotent rage if they were to actually pit console gamers against PC gamers.

right, there is no cross-platform multiplayer in BF3 which is the case for nearly every game out there.

And for this, I hate you :p

I always seem to have lag issues. Only in this game. When it first came out I never had an issue and after all the patching I see lag on 2 out of 3 servers. It is still a great game and BF 3 should be 10 times better.

Bad ports are bad regardless of which platform gets the shaft...laughing at consoles getting bad ports when we scream everytime we get one isn't mature, let alone beneficial to anyone.

Even the PS3 gets a lot of crappy console ports (Black Ops for one).

Black Ops on PS3 was absolutely horrid. I purchased the game on a Friday and traded it in on Tuesday. Terrible experience.

To be completely honest, I think indie developers will become the beacon of PC gaming. Look at Hawken... absolutely amazing. I'm half-tempted to donate money to them to help speed up development.

If it does, I've never experienced in Hard Core.

And another annoying thing...Why do I have to respawn in a game in order to be able to exit the game.

Helps mitigate impulsive ragequitting, IMO. The urge to ragequit can actually pass in the 15 seconds required to wait for that chance.

Yeah, that's retarded - a major accessibility oversight. Same with no option to cancel while connecting to a server, and no option to disconnect after a map is over - you must wait until the new one has loaded. And it's not about rage quitting or whatever its being called these days. If a user wishes to disconnect, he should be able to do so no exceptions. I feel it's just another feature that they forgot to add when porting it from console. The same reason the menu text is extrapolated to shit.

But hey, they managed to add a wait queue!
