Both video links are dead. Poo. :(

Did anyone notice that small, tiny square in the corner of the room in the third clip scene of the official gameplay trailer next to the 2nd soldier's foot where he takes his third step past the pile of rubble near the rear of the building under where the first window from the right lights are dimmest under the spark shimmer? What kind of crap are they pushing on us? I don't see how this game will ever be good.

Win! lol

I just watched some footage on IGN and I'm extremely excited about this game! I may even pre-order this!

Oh and:

a quote: "The hurdle is to make sure that we lower the threshold to get into the game by letting everyone try it out. The running and gunning should be extremely accessible. That’s something we’re working toward with every iteration of the game while deepening the game so once you get hooked, there’s enough depth to play to get people to come back."

"We could implement it but the question is how do you get the threshold lower? That’s not by making it more complicated. Our challenge is to make sure that anyone that just jumps into the game will get it. One of the biggest problems with Commander was that only two people could use it. Some people liked it but most people didn’t care, they just cared that someone gave them an order or that their squad could play together having fun on their own more or less. Then the more hardcore people went into the Commander mode and learned how to use that. You could argue it was a great feature, but looking at the numbers you could also say that no one uses it. We tried in Bad Company 2 to give that to the players, so you could issue orders to your squad, and you could use gadgets like the UAV that only the commander could use earlier – giving the power back to the players so everyone could use it. That made a big difference. More people could enjoy the game. We lowered the threshold for everyone because we gave it to everyone. We now know where the boundaries are for keeping the strategic depth and complexity while lowering the threshold to get in."

good or bad? I think its a shame.

Agree. I mean... how much of a challenge was it for PC gamers to jump into BF2? None. You could do Commander pretty pretty easily too: hide at home base as engy, put UAVs where it makes sense or if you have good squad leaders to call, send arty to where it makes sense without tk. Of course to be a great commander took a lot more than that.

Who cares if only X people play commander? Almost every match I've played with vehicles has commanders. The matches are funner with commanders; the player gets a since of the larger battle going on and gets some direction from the commander. Loved how the commander can talk to squad leaders and squad leaders talked to squad.

yeah, i dont think DICE get it. Its not just about being able to be commander its also about just knowing there is a "human" commander who is leading the fight. Without that there is a form of chaos in the battlefield.

Lack of a Commander Role didn't hurt Bad Company 2, and who said chaos was a bad thing?

BC2 had small maps and clear objectives. The whole thing was funneled and limited. But wont work with BF2 for instance. Maybe the game could give the commander position randomly, maybe that will make DICE happy since they are so picky on the fact that only one guys gets to use it.

Perhaps your games were limited with small maps but not mine.

In comparison to battlefid, bfbc2 was small until the recent addition of heavy metal and the other much larger maps. I couldn't imagine trying to fly a jet around in any of the bfbc2 maps, even heavy metal

Exactly - BC2 is VERY funnled and linear. Only Heavy Metal changes that...and heavy metal just feels TOO large for BC2. But most BC2 is a very linear type of play...certainly the assault (MCom) rounds are VERY linear.

All of BC2 feels laggy to me. It's not really that my PC is lagging, the game itself feels laggy by design. I don't like it much, and I'm scared of what BF3 will be.

Can we get titan mode in BF3? Please? No? Fine, I'll reinstall 2142.

Have we heard anything about DICE bringing back the Unranked standalone server files, like we had in BF2? I saw the announcement about 'dedicated servers' but didn't think that answers my question about the unranked software. I have a Proliant server with 48GB of memory and 60Mb/10Mbs WAN line just craving for some old school unranked BF3 action amongst me and some buddies!

Also US soldiers dont hold AK-47s or whatever, thats so wrong.

Maybe soldiers dont, but some Marines do. ;) Which is what you're playing in this game, not a soldier. There is a difference.

Me holding an AK in Afghan.

+1, yeah in real life thats great, but in real life you dont have a digital HUD telling you exactly how many rounds you have, which you do in video games.

True, but there are mags that tell you exactly how many rounds you have left by a number at the bottom of the mag.

Now that we have some previews of a war shooter game that looks amazing, awesome looking weapon recoil and sounds, realistic blood, intense fighting. Now we are complaining that the guns are 100% accurate on how they reload? Seriously...

They went and recorded real live shots being fired, from all sorts of weapons during a training session just to get the sound right. If they are that interested in getting the sounds right, whats a small animation to make it even more realistic? It wont be a worse game because they dont do this, but it would separate them even more from the pack. I dont expect them to add this in, but it would be nice some day. And as someone who has done combat reloads, I noticed it. Sue me. Games are getting more and more realistic with the new technology that allows them to do more things. And some games already do this.

i agree. if you're going to spend the time to create a reload animation, you might as well do it correctly.

In the heat of a firefight, if you need a weapon youll pick up and use an AK if you need to and when your trying to blend in, using an AK draws a shit ton less attention then an M16 does. As fallguy said, its how we teufelhunden roll :)

The audio sounds amazing! I wonder if I should upgrade from onboard sound?

I remember reading a tweet from one of the BF3 devs and they said that all audio processing will be done via software, so you won't be missing out on too much if you opt not to get one.

a dedicated sound card will provide much better sound quality, as they typically use higher quality DAC's.

Anyone have ANY idea what video cards they used to play those demos with? Gotta be something current right? haha hopefully thats not rendered with Quad SLI. hehe

They used a single Nvidia 580.

@repi You mentioned that the demo was powered by the GTX 580 card. SLI (2 or 3)? Debating on which GPU to settle on come fall.

@Fallguy and @USMCGrunt, no offense but I highly doubt your squad leaders would allow you to use an AK-47 for any kind of mission. You could pick it up and keep it I guess but actually use it? no way, or else every soldier would be bringing with him something crazy. Maybe BF3 should have inventory for your profile?
