Do you think that shock wave that ripped up the ground was scripted or will the ground react like that when a huge bomb is dropped?

@Fallguy and @USMCGrunt, no offense but I highly doubt your squad leaders would allow you to use an AK-47 for any kind of mission. You could pick it up and keep it I guess but actually use it? no way, or else every soldier would be bringing with him something crazy. Maybe BF3 should have inventory for your profile?

Im sorry, but I am the squad leader. E-5 here.

There would be very little chance of my ever needing an AK. Mainly because they recover their dead so fast, because they dont want us getting their bodies. And because we always plan ahead, and had enough ammo. Not always water, but ammo. But if push came to shove, and I was out of ammo and had access to a AK, you better believe I would use it. I believe any human would use what he had in order to survive. Ive shot several while over there, but just for fun. As seen in the pic.

Also, a few months ago, a Marine SAW gunner ran out of ammo during a firefight. An insurgent was coming around the corner of a building, and he took his AK, and beat him with it. So he didnt shoot it, but still used it.

Once again, a soldier is not a Marine. ;)

edit, but its getting off topic. Sorry, carry on. Um.. video looks great!

I get the sense that your not a former Marine. I am not either... but... well..... good luck.

@Ramon and Metalarm: Thanks for the links guys! hehe you just cemented my upgrade path. :D lol poverty here I come!

Hooah? Ive seen the movies, soldiers dont carry AK-47, one would have to pick it up and later told to drop it or play with it later. When you start a match you should only be offered US weapons, you can pick up other weapons if you want which is similar to real-life. I doubt marines got their AK-47 from a store? No i bet they took it from the enemy.

Yeah okay but the weapon was not given to you by the US gov and you didnt buy it from some store right? In BF universe that means you cant have it from the start of the match, you would have to pick it in the battlefield.

most likely the falling building itself was scripted and wont be in MP. Actually other than better graphics and lightening and sound, im not sure what will remain in MP, seems all the animation is reserved for SP as well.

As Fallout has said, we use what we need though an M16 is good to go the majority of the time. I was over after the initial invasion wave and it was pretty much do what you gotta do to get the job done and then about a year and a half later when brass and media kept you from doing your job.

Sidenote: War is not for general consumption of the masses and the Marine Corps is not meant to be the rule abiding, honorable military branch when its wartime...we are shocktroopers and as such do what it needs to instill fear in our enemy....the media has kept us from doing so in the middle east :(

Proper usage of the US Military in the past....air and sea pulverize defenses for a Marine Corps landing operation. Marines go in and destroy EVERYTHING. Army moves in, fortifies and stabalizes behind the Corps. <--My opinion at least...

Its too bad you can't blow buildings like that though...could you imagine an entire team sitting in that building...couple guys with C4 come along and blast the base of the building and they all come crashing to the ground lol.

If this game is as good as BF2 was for me, and the graphics in multiplayer is as good as the videos, then I'm definitely upgrading my video card with whatever is top-end just for this game.

Last time I checked BF2 you could customize your weapons too. I never saw anyone use an M16/M4 or even M24 for that matter. Everyone used the L96, G36K, G36 mg or PKM. Hardcore BF players, maybe play BF2 for once and watch what people use.

I was using M-16 as an example. and I didnt say anything wrong about customize, thats a given.

WTF? I thought you were crying about being able to start out with an AK47 as a US soldier/marine? Now I am totally confused.

Bans can be easily provided for those who can't play nice. I'm not going to shut down an overall great discussion just because a few people can't manage to follow the simple rule of keeping your conversation civil and respectful towards other members. Someone else's negative post does not give you license to flame them back either. Stay on-topic.

Anyone know the system requirements for this game on the highest setting? Or probably have any ideas?

No, nobody knows for sure at this point. All we do know is that the video's we've seen where taken from a PC running a single 580. Which certainly won't be a "requirment" to run the game.

Exactly - BC2 is VERY funnled and linear. Only Heavy Metal changes that...and heavy metal just feels TOO large for BC2. But most BC2 is a very linear type of play...certainly the assault (MCom) rounds are VERY linear.

All of BC2 feels laggy to me. It's not really that my PC is lagging, the game itself feels laggy by design. I don't like it much, and I'm scared of what BF3 will be.

Can we get titan mode in BF3? Please? No? Fine, I'll reinstall 2142.

32 man servers on vanilla, I totally agree. I look for 24 man servers or less to help the lagging. BF3 netcode for 64 man servers needs to be good or I won't be able to cope with the lag. I think I'm sensitive to it. I hope DICE are improving the code with each release...

Have you tried Vietnam? The lag in general is gone for me, much easier to aim and do what you're meant to do. Hell my KDR is miles better in Vietnam, I put it down to smooth gameplay and confidence in the game engine

Btw, very very cool leaked video, the game is shaping up to be something very special.

I would prefer the realism of starting out with only the guns available to your country, but if it got too real it wouldnt be as fun. For example , american military doesnt use the G36 yet it was a blast to use it and its variations in BF2. So starting with a AK, yeah id rather not, but starting with a AR-platform every time? pass. As for picking up a AK, i am not a marine/soldier but i know a lil bit and what i know is team leaders would be pissed if you used one (fired) cause thats the enemies weapon, it has a distinct sound and the marines/soldiers have been trained to hear that sound and react...thats the enemies gun. But like mentioned im sure in a life or death out of ammo situation, you do w/e you need to.

Btw i bet that building falling was scripted, it was cause of the earth quake that tore up the pavement, not cause someone blew it up. And there will be no earth quakes in multiplayer lol.

I like driving a vehicle into an enemy base and stepping off. Using it as a form of bait after I have strapped about 3 pieces of C4 to it. Then waiting in the bushes

The momentum on the buggies is great for strapping on C4 and sailing them into enemy tanks while detonating from a safe distance, it's actually really effective if you have a tank that's hard to take down with missiles, just approach from a flank.

Will there be chinooks? How about Osprey?

I doubt the Osprey will make an appearance, but the Chinook would be really cool for transporting several squads of troops.

Imagine - you're capping a flag, when suddenly a Chinook flies over a hill, lands, and 20 troops unload and start running in your direction. That would be so badass.

Why are Chinooks being talked about? If the game features the U.S. Marines then they do not use the Chinook but the CH-46 which is being replaced by the V-22 Osprey.

Oh! Jihad jeeps... a classic :D

I enjoyed going spec ops and going all the way to the enemy base. Strap some C4 on the fighter jet, then wait til the jet gets to the end of the runway before blowing it up. What made it sweeter was knowing the poor scrub was waiting for that jet for at least 5 minutes along with 10 other teammates, and probably TKed half of them just to get the jet.

I don't know, is muliplayer also about marines? Whatever I just would like to see something as cool as a chinook or osprey instead of the same helicopters.

Jihad jeeping, haha that was classic! Makes me want to fire up BF2.

Can't wait for BF3, it's a shame that they've removed commander, it made the whole thing seem more realistic. You have a bad or noob commander and your team was toast.

its been confirmed that the big buildings falling in SP will also be in MP.

I found this part of the interview interesting about audio tech:

"PB: Well, there's a lot you should know but I can't tell you (Laughs).
Audio is something that we are extremely proud of. Since we more or less invented what we call HDR audio system, which gives us a more vivid sound scape than in any other shooter. It's not only me, we're getting a lot of awards for it. Just compare any shooter with us and you will actually hear the difference. And the cool thing with the core of that system is that, like HDR lighting where you can only see a certain amount of light at one time. You have the really dark areas and you have the really bright areas and depending on where you look, your eyes will adapt to the situation.
That's the exact same thinking with the audio system where we [have] decibel zero and decibel 200, and we have a sliding scale of what you can hear at one certain time. So if everything is completely silent you can hear a pin drop, but if someone blows a grenade next to you then the decibel on that grenade is so much higher so then the whole scale moves up to a higher end on the spectrum and you can only hear the loud noises. That creates a very dynamic world and it also gives our sound designers freedom to design the world based on what it actually sounds like. So you don't have to spend time changing volumes dynamically as you play, because the game will do that automatically. [The sound designers] can spend more time with the creative stuff, creating the sounds or adding more artistic layers of music or video that everyone should hear that should be center speaker /mid-range for instance. So there's a lot of cool tricks we're doing that no one else is really trying to do...yet, which is weird because we've been doing it for quite some time now and we are getting credit for it, but no one is—I think the problem is no one is rewriting stuff. Because they are building on the old stuff, you can't do these things.
We are just setting all these values and you create a very natural and dynamic environment, so we are just doing the obvious I would say. "
