Speak for yourself, I think it would be very interesting. I for one am glad it's taking place where it is as it's a fresh new idea which I can't wait to get into. Clearly this game is not for you, so just don't by it and don't play it.

I WANTED MORE STUFF IN THE MIDDLE EAST!

cliche and new york setting make the whole war scenario out of touch with whats going on in the world today. You can't take it seriously.

Thats because its not a modern day shooter, its said to be set in the near future. Five years ago anybody with a bit of knowledge about the middle east would most likely think your out of touch if you were to tell them that there was going to be a single revolution in the near future, let alone the 4 or 5 that are going on right now (4 or 5...something like that).

BTW, Battlefield 1942 was released in 2002 and the original Call of Duty didnt come around till 2003. COD: MW was released in 2007 and Battlefield 2 was brought out in 2005. Seems like if anyone is trying to be a clone it would be COD...

In the end they are both really good franchises....hell, their longevity speaks well enough for that. COD does a great job of providing a realistic but arcade kind of feel to the genre while Battlefield allows you to experiance the war from many different angles in a single map. We all have an inner fanboy that screams to get out and battle for their game of choice but in the end, they're both good games.

Fine lets accept that there is a New York and Paris map, apparently its the apocalypse but whatever. What possible story could support such battles? What theme? Is it defending and attacking, is it a war over ideologies? What three factions, oh wait its probably just two who share the same weapons my bad. "Realism stops at Battlefield 3. Coming 2011"

Unfortunately many pc gamers spend too much time with their head up their ass and fail miserably at actually grasping what's going on in the real world.

I mean c'mon, Americas is tha bestest afterall and have all the bestest guns and ammos and soldiers and things and stuff ROFL

In reality the US military is so thinly spread out across the globe they can't even stop mexicans breaching their border and hacking peoples heads off in Arizona.......but no-one could ever attack America

10% of the US military are dead, dying or ill (DP anyone?). 20% are questioning their life choices, 50% are stationed abroad and couldn't defend their xbox back home from their next door neighbour. A further 20% have just been replaced by military contractors (who fight for whichever company pays the most, not simply America).

As for veterans, I think they're more likely to attack your government rather than defend it considering how they've been hammered by gun confiscations etc etc

How many movies that were done about invading america? just one? red dawn or whatever? thats it. Even hollywood cant think of a feasible way for that to happen.

History said so. All the G8 countries would never fight each other nowadays anyway, the Cold War proved that much. That was the peak and it passed. Its all asymmetric warfares from now on. Still even if the whole world united against the US and decided to do a naval invasion, none would be able to get past the statue of liberty. I'm pretty sure the New York map is used in the SP as some military ops infiltration. They can parachute out of commercial airplanes on the UN HQ to assassinate some world leader. Although it might be easier to just form a militia within US and they do some terrorist attack.

Since when a game has to follow the real world events? gtfo

Anyway it's march 1, where are the newsezzz??

Jeez, guys get this shit back on topic. If yall wanna talk politics take that shit over to genmay. Hopefully we'll get some news soon...

The last battlefield game we got is called Vietnam. thats why. New York is lame battle zone, especially considering how empty it will look.

From what I am seeing on Twitter, there is some kind of press embargo until the 2nd. So, we may get some impressions leaked here and there, and we may hear about what it is we will get to see soon, but we may not actually get to see it until Wednesday.

Until then, enjoy this:

The Technology Behind Battlefield 3

Whatever, the trailer should show us if the storyline is good or not. It might be US vs. Iran, which is not as balanced as US vs. Russia. Wouldve been interesting if it were Israel vs. Iran instead.

we could argue the politics of real war till our heads turn blue.... but what in the fuck does that have ANYTHING to do with the gameplay in BF3? BF has NEVER tried to be a TRUE war simulator.... EVER. fun as hell? Yes, but its not ArmA. I agree with TheToE!, back on topic.

Ok, for all of my fellow pilots, do you think there is a chance that we get a computer guided bomb targeting system? While it was fun dive bombing targets with the F-15 or SU-34 in BF2, I wouldnt mind seeing a ground attack mode for dropping bombs that features a calculated bomb point that takes the angle of the aircraft in to account.

And I hope they support joysticks better thant hey did in BC2. Love that game, but flying the chopper with mouse and keyboard felt .... strange to say the least.

Oh my god, FUCK DICE! They sacrifice real-world current-event realism because they have the nerve to think that players might find fighting each other on the streets of two of the biggest cities in the world fun! Death to DICE!

...Seriously, the shit that people find to complain about.

There has to be a spine that the universe and story for the game to cling on. Introducing New York might seem like a completely new take on what Battlefield franchise is about. I think people should be more skeptical about these things. And when a game like this one gives us a real location we can identify ourselves, unless its very accurate looking, we might feel cheated. I dont want it to be a war simulator, just not to ruin the suspension of disbelief and better have it extract concepts from existing warfares rather than invent its own. And yeah im gonna complain about maps, they are the most important aspect of the game. Any other element is just bonus, maps make this game.

There is very little to complain about so far, so some people pick up on the most ridiculous anal retentive stuff to moan about for the sake of it

Ive already complained alot about the lack for Commander feature, which i think is very necessary. There is not much to complain about because we got nothing to see yet. Graphics and animation sure are good but who played battlefield for the graphics?

think you've done your share of complaining yet? or should we sit back and watch the tantrum a while longer? there's voicing your criticism and then there's shitting on a thread. guess which one you're doing?

Can we start a new thread without dioxholster ?

Where's the trailer :(

I vote to stop feeding the troll. All in favor? Aye!

Long live Battlefield and long live DICE!!

You clearly don't know what is going on. Just randomly making up percentages to fit your agenda. The US military could stop people from Mexico coming to the US, but politics stops them from just shooting on site. It wouldn't be that hard to do. We have drones in Afghan, there is no chance they would ever make it if the US military got the go-ahead to do whatever it took to keep them off our soil. But that will never happen. And our "Military" isn't even there, just some National Guard.

And there I fed a troll. Sorry everyone.

Screw that I dont troll, I made my opinion of recent updates known and stated my reasons for why I think BF3 might not be as longlasting as its predecessor. I'm sure when the game comes out, the same boring complaints would pour in like oh its so buggy or oh aircrafts are overpowered. I might change my mind about it all depending on what the trailer is like. BF3 can never beat COD at sells if it offers the same thing so they should try to look different.

if its New York and Paris, what made them skip London I wonder?

i'm not sure if the first screenshot is of New York. i don't recognize any iconic buildings, but i'm also pretty unfamiliar with the New York skyline.

New York one even though has lots of buildings, looks rather generic. Actually it doesnt look like new york, dont know what city. The paris train station is pretty cool though.

Don't think the first one is New York. It had palm trees. It is from DICE, though.
The second one IS New York. Grand Central Station, from Crysis 2.

The second pic is named paris.jpg so it gotta be paris related. The first one is not a real city it mightve been used just for demonstration. The same tall buildings in the background at the right are repeated over and over again.

New York map might just be a block or two, not gulf of oman big. As for Paris, they gotta have the effel tower in the back drop.

So I can blow it up.

Can you imagine america saving france again? but yeah would be interesting such a great monument topple, its not like there is much to be done in paris map anyway. Its like GI Joe movie. But seriously its probably narrow streets and such with bakeries and restaurants. hopefully a subway.
