Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

Dude...yes....brings back the awesome memories...it's too bad they can't do a direct remake of the game leaving all the mechanics and elements the same just updated graphics. BF1942 is the best they made IMO....lots of memories with that game...

Oh man I'd love to play Bocage, Market Garden, Battleaxe, Berlin, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, and of course Wake again. I wish DICE would really do this.

dont give them ideas, i want a 1942 remake but they might butcher it again like they did 1943 lol

Want to know why the beta is so late? DICE speaks:
http://mp1st.com/2011/09/24/dice-on-why-the-battelfield-3-beta-is-so-late/

In an interview with GamerSpawn, Karl-Magnus Troedsson, General Manager at Dice, answered a few tough questions regarding the date of the Battlefield 3 beta. First, he does admit that it is coming out a little later than the DICE team would have liked, saying, “I know that some people are saying it’s coming in a bit late, but we’re still happy to put it out there.” He also went on to assure us that, “what’s also very important here is that when we launch Battlefield 3, that is just the start. We’re going to take care of this product for quite some time afterwards.”

Even though the beta is coming out seemingly quite late, it seems that the DICE team could still have used more time in preparing it. When it comes to the coding in the beta, Troedsson also admitted that “it’s a couple of weeks behind. So, there might be problems in that that we’ve already fixed [since then].” This is important for many Battlefield fans to know so that they are not so thrown off by potential bugs that could be found in the beta.

Uhhhhh, that doesn't answer why it's coming out so late at all. All it does is show that he acknowledges that it's coming out late.

Console QA pushed it back three weeks. That was in another article. The PC version has been ready since the first week of September.

the reason its so late is Microsoft and Sony took their sweet time approving it and EA wanted the beta to take place at the same time for all 3 versions.

also it points out to expect bugs in the beta which should be a given but some people wont realise that and say its crap for what ever bugs are in the beta sigh... :)

Even if it came out September 8th instead of September 29th that's still too late. Should've come out in early August at the latest.

I think people are confused about what the actual point of this beta is.

The beta is likely to test the back end while giving people a sample of the game as an incentive and to promote it.

It isn't to test the client, game balance or anything like that. The client being shipped with the game is actually a newer version then the one that will be in the beta.

Betas for games like this are never the "Beta" we think of. They are basically glorified demos.

For the most part, you're right. But if there is something that pisses a very large portion of player base it will be fixed. Probably not in time for release, but in the first patch. Dice would be extremely stupid to not also consider gameplay feedback from this beta in addition to the technical data they're focused on.

Well yes obviously that is the case, no different than glaring issues post release being patched.

But some seem to think that the beta is actually focused on testing the client and game play. Which is why you have people issuing complaints that there isn't enough content to test, not enough testing time, testing is too late to change anything significant, and etc.

This is different than say the SC2 beta, since you actually needed community data to balance the game due to the different nature of the two games.

DICE has literally already said they will be monitoring stuff in beta to use as tuning for the final, so worry not

Plus stuff like weapons changed a bunch of times over the course of BC2 patches, it's not like shit is 100% perma-locked in once it goes gold.

Those codes last for all of 3 days, and they no longer work for pre-orders like BF3. Sorry to break the bad news.

Yes, but new ones are being posted, so ups the three day limit, say nothing of creating a second account with a bday in a couple of days.

Wouldn't expect high quality graphics settings with beta or SLI support.....cause its not going to be there.

Well, the beta could at least give us a feel of the gameplay like movements, shooting the various guns, the new class and other general features.

I have certainly lost interest in the beta by now. Operation metro was a shitass map IMO

I agree that metro was not setup very well on the first stage but they're saying it's been redesigned so hopefully it's better now. Though I don't think it would have been so bad if squad spawning wasn't broken...it seemed like teams got further in the map when it was working. I only saw the end section like...3-4 times in the 10 or so hours of playtime I had in the alpha...and it was always when squad spawning was working.

I just read the recommend specs for the game and they are saying a GTX570 or 6950 I hope that is not true or its time to upgrade....

So what time do we think the beta will be ready to download/play on Tuesday?

Yes, that is correct for MEDIUM settings. For higher settings you will need even more (or so they are saying). And I tend to believe them. If you want all the eye candy they are showing off and we are drooling over, you will need to bring alot of hardware to allow it.

I still want to know what happens if the beta has problems with the server browser or whatever and people cannot play. Would they push the start of the open beta back so people with early access get their early 2 days?

also there is a new PS3 trailer out for Caspian border with some new gameplay footage, check it out: http://youtu.be/hOHy3naveks

That must be the 10th time that "PS3 gameplay" trailer has been posted here in the last 24 hours.

Funny thing is that I played a LOT of those games in my youth. I don't remember them looking that bad at the time, but clearly technology has come a LOOOONG way.

Anyone want to create a shared account with me? I will most probably be available to play 9 PM to 11 PM Eastern Standard Time. Together, if we can have people playing on the account 24/7 we can have the best BF3 stats and be on top of the leaderboard.

This is certainly the first time I've heard someone wanting to do this outside of a mmo.

To much MMO feature creep into FPS games these days in my opinion.

Wait so for Med settings you can only play with a GTX 570 or 6950 or higher?? That's bull...

There was some information to suggest that the posted recommended system requirements (which was a GTX 560 or 6950) would be medium at 1920x1080. But I think some DICE developer (not sure?) also than said that the recommended system is actually for high at that resolution.

If you check the beta page you'll see the min spec is an nvidia geforce 8800gt or radeon 3950 ( I think for amd). Entry for the game is pretty low but as it was stated, to see the entire game the way they are advertising is gonna require some serious hardware...thankfully.
