No, what I'm saying is I don't know why it's hush hush, I just know that it is. I'm not going to be the one to leak the date, I'm going to be one of the ones playing the game, however.

Back to the waiting game :(:p

The month is half over, so its safe to assume we will be playing the beta within the next 2 weeks, lol.

Seriously though, I'm willing to bet next week the MOH LE, and preorder folks will be in.

He's about as much in the know as the origin tech support people, and that lot have thrown out multiple dates and not been right once.

Apparently you are clueless in the difference between some support rep that reads responses off a screen than a developer with knowledge of dates for code cut off, let alone the development calender.

Nice complete fail there, buddy.

And thats meant to prove anything? Im pretty sure in just about any place of employment not everyone is privvy to info that is under embargo. And seeing as Dice can only Parrot the words "soon" in every interview theyve done since gamescom, it would seem that theyve been told to shutup untill EA says otherwise.

Buddy, he has changed people's Origin account name for them. All by PM'ing him on here. Go back and read this thread.

No, it's not "shut up until EA says otherwise" it's more like they don't want to announce the date.

If I were you I wouldn't be gallivanting my status as a software engineer for Origin or whatever position you actually hold. Companies tend to frown upon employee's taking it upon themselves to say anything about internal schedules of Beta's when such information hasn't been announced even if you haven't actually proposed a date don't think that some vindictive fool couldn't copy and pasta a link and the conversations you are having about work related projects on a public forum. Not to mention if you know the date that's great for you , but telling us you know it doesn't accomplish anything. Best to keep that kind of information to yourself.

Just some advice.

As I said earlier:

Battlefield 3 PC Beta Ready, Waiting on Microsoft & Sony:

@4:51pm EST Today:
Speaking at the FNAC meeting in Paris, France, DICE GM Karl Magnus Troedsson gave a co-op demo of Battlefield 3 and answered questions. According to Planete-Battlefield.fr (unrelated to us), KM Kusa (French Community Manager) said the PC beta is ready, but now they are working with Microsoft and Sony to "accelerate preparations". From what we have heard, it takes 2-3 weeks for Microsoft and Sony to approve content, running it through tests to make sure it won't brick your console among other things. That said, we have no idea when the build was submitted to them. As far as we know, the the Battlefield 3 beta is still slated for sometime this month. Via EA UK Forums.

@ 2:05pm EST Today:

It takes up to a month for it to pass console QA with MS and Sony. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's holding up the Beta.
On PC, they could have released the Beta as is.

I pretty much have "an idea" of how the industry works when something takes this long to be released.
Crytek took forever to release patches for Crysis 2 because consoles QA process slows devs down.

MS and Sony treats every release like a real game, beta or not, because they are obligated to provide a working product.
I know OffSpring said they wouldn't release on PC as is, but they could have released it already if the beta was exclusive to PC.

Yeah I kind of considered posting something similar; not to be a dick, but more as advice to yourself. If EA/Origins is all good with you acting as a representative of the company here, awesome. If not, always CYA. Of course we've appreciated the help and the insight but again...CYA.

A faulty beta on consoles can be a death sentence for sales. PC gamers are use to bugs and patches .. console gamers don't tend to have toleration for such inconveniences.

But if the PC beta is ready to go then they should release it. If they wait til the end of the month its going to be a short beta..

I can totally see that. Console gamers arent as informed, i bet 90% of them would DL the beta and not really know what a beta is, it would mean "demo" more-so to them, and once they started experiencing bugs they would be like "THIS is how you put out a demo? BUGGY! pass" and post all over their facebook feed how buggy the BF3 demo was and how they are gonna get MW3 instead. PC owners arent geniuses by any means but our knowledge is deeper in terms of things like bugs and patches and alphas and betas and a game being "gold" and all that stuff. Dont get me wrong though lol, i wish PC was like Console in that one way..in the sense that they didnt put out such buggy games then patch it later a hundred times. However i know why its not that way for the most part.

BTW Godmachine and Twisted Aegis..it does come off as being a dick. He can risk his job or not or w/e if he wants too. He doesnt come off as a guy thats breaking or bending any rules. He has helped me a bunch with Origin stuff and what u guys are saying reads a bit like spitting in your helpers face.

Offspring, can you tell us anything about the date? What day(not date) is it supposed to be released on?

Lol. Bugging the poor guy that just wants to read what you'll like about Origin so he can make it a little better for you'll to use. Please leave him alone about dates. If he was going to let the cat out of the bag he would have done so long ago. Obviously he likes his job at EA so he's not trying to get fired for leaking information.

:)

Lol that seems to be pushing it. I'll answer for him because i am 100% of what he will say. "No i cant, sorry". Lol. I doubt bosses are fine with any hints or loop holes being used to tell publicly a release date. Might as well ask him to tell you every day before the release date the Beta DOESNT come out on.

I see the exact opposite. If anything I see console players being mostly content with what they get (some just don't care, others don't know any better) while many PC players shit themselves over the smallest things. I lost count of how many PC players threatened to cancel their pre orders because BC2 beta was buggy and how often people needed to be reminded "it's a beta"

Besides being intolerant to bugs in a beta, PC players are also up in arms over...

DRM
Origin or more accurately, lack of availability on Steam
No in-game browser
Console port (whether or not the game is or isn't)
System requirements (if their system, no matter how crappy can't run it, the game is "unoptimized garbage")

The list isn't exclusive to BF3, just some PC gamers in general.

You know, the DRM for BF3 is one of the least intrusive I've ever seen, and as a gamer that makes me happy. Sure, there's problems with it but that's inherent with the fact that it's software. It's much better than StarForce or any of the other really obnoxious DRMs I've encountered either while working at Xfire or while playing my games at home.

The whole lack of availability on Steam is a little bit over blown, I think. I'm not an Origin fanboy, nor am I a Steam fanboy. I personally am a huge fan of physical media, which is why I am buying my copy from Amazon. Just because a game doesn't come out on the digital distribution platform that you think is the greatest thing since sliced bread doesn't mean you should immediately say "NO! I won't buy the game!" I remember when Modern Warfare 2 was announced to have no dedicated servers and the Steam group for boycotting the game blew up. The day after the release those same people were all playing Modern Warfare 2. Gamers are right to want their games in one place, but to claim that they're going to boycott then buy the game once all their buy it seems a little like it doesn't carry all that much weight.

The lack of an in-game browser bugs me too, but the web browser integration is actually pretty seamless. I'll withhold total judgement until after the game comes out, though, and I'm forced to use it any time I want to do anything. As for the Console Port thing, it's not. The game was designed from the ground up for the PC. If anything it's the classic definition of a console port in that it was ported TO the consoles, not the other way around. This is one of the better choices for this game, I think. I haven't looked at it on the consoles, but I assume it's probably running just as smoothly.

I didn't say he came off sounding like a dick and there are clauses in employee contracts that state that you are not allowed deem yourself a representative of said company and diverge any kind of information without expressly written or verbal permission to do so which he may have.

If I was in his position I wouldn't comment openly in a public form that I was an employee with inside information on an unreleased beta schedule for a very crucial software title. All it takes is one person for the shit to hit the "proverbial" fan even if he hasn't stated anything revealing. But if he has permission to comment on such topics regardless if community managers and or developers are suppose to handle the dissemination of information regarding launch titles than he has nothing to worry about. The controversial pot has already stirred up and one employee at DICE has already lost there job leaking beta videos of the single player campaign on Youtube so tensions I would imagine haven't exactly cooled down for EA/DICE.

Simply offering a suggestion and or advice isn't being a "dick" or spitting in his face. I'm glad he was able to help a few people here with account and or software issues regarding Origin but still due to the sensitive nature of how EA/DICE is handling when they plan the beta launch it might not be unwise to exercise caution.

1: No opinion
2: I basically agree, though i am moving more and more towards liking digital and having a library there.
3. It bugs me as well but only a tiny bit. Probably only because its different. Like some people official and fan have said, if its as fast as it was in the Alpha (in opening, finding a game, then launching) then i have no problem with it. It was WAY faster than most server browsers in game i have used.
Also something i am totally buying what DICE is selling, is when they said how they can totally update/refresh and adjust the browser because its a webpage aka not in game. So instead of getting a server browser in game and how ever it is, its stuck that way forever, they can tweak the server browser to the fans needs easily. I just dont fight the idea of the server browser in a internet browser because it gives them complete control and access to tweak or totally change it to the fans needs.

I'm not personally complaining about any of that (though I do much prefer steam over origin tbh) I'm just responding to the person that thinks PC players are "tolerant" when in fact, they complain more than anyone, often times for legitimate reasons, but many times not.

I'm happy about the server browser personally. Dice's in-game browsers have always been frustrating to deal with, especially at launch. Over time they release patches to improve them a fair bit though.

Using this forum as a "gauge" of what PC gamers tolerate is not exactly what I would call accurate. This forum and a few others I frequent are far less forgiving then most so I don't hold those few forums with high regard for the total behavior of many PC gamers. PC gamers are in general the most flexible users I can think of , largely due to the fact that they are forced to at some point learn to fix small or even large problems with there gaming PC's or take it a step further and build entire gaming setups. Console users expect games to "function as intended" from the moment they start playing. But of course this is just my own personal experience and not a poll or anything actually informative to reality of the argument.

I just feel PC gamers get a bad reputation when it comes to the overall gauged patience level and I don't think they deserve it.

This isn't the only forum I frequent, the behavior is largely the same, some worse than others. Steam forums are probably the worst offenders. I've also never seen a console gamer be more "picky" than a PC gamer, ever. And I've been gaming since the days of Wolfenstein 3D. Find me a forum with an active PC gaming section that doesn't have people complaining about the stuff I mentioned.

Now I'm not saying ALL PC gamers fall into this category. Most are logical, reasonable people, but there are more than a few who don't fall into that realm.

Offspring, when will you guys be releasing a new album. Will it be on a Tuesday?

This has been my arguement against the browser whining from the beginning...

Seeing as you are discussing BF3's DRM, can you enlighten us as to whether:

(1) Origin will receive an "offline mode"?;

(2) It is possible to play the BF3 SP campaign without online authentication every time the game is started?

(3) BF3 will require Origin to be running in the background despite all the required functionality seemingly having been packaged into Battlelog?
