You're fooling yourself if you think they couldnt have that ready to go on Day 1. These days companies plan out release schedules for DLC to extend the product lifespan and make the most money possible.

Remember when the games came first and while profits were always the end goal they wouldnt put the gamer 2nd?

Were put into a position now where we dont have a choice, its either buy the game and deal with it or dont buy the game. There dont seem to be other options (Games) to choose from that are just as good only made by companies that actually care.

1. If you preorder the game, at the same price, you get it for free. So it isn't necessarily extra profit but to drive pre-orders.

2. If the DLC is good, isn't the fact that companies are putting out extra content and expanding the lifespan of games we enjoy playing a GOOD thing? I don't agree with craptastic COD style 3 map packs for $15, but look at Vietnam, that was a damn bargain.

Yes it used to be free back in the day, but it was a nascent industry back then. Now it is a mature business with investors to please, and that's just what comes with capitalism.

How dare you spout off logic and common sense here??!?!?! Get off the crack pipe we wanna be mad cause.....well...we're mad and not gonna take it anymore. Ya that's it and while you're at it....stick it to the man!! Fuck him!! Ok got that out of my system...LOL

This map pack is part of the pre order and I see no problem with it at all we are getting more content and yes they probably could include it at launch if they wwanted too but they are using it as a carrot on a stick. So what? That's business and there's nothing wrong with it. I and most of us were planning to pre order anyway so where the harm? There is no foul here unless of course your just one to always cry and moan about anything. Which here there are plenty of those people. You know who you are. You could win the lottery for 2 million you would complain it wasn't 10 million. Please. We're gonna have what seems like 16 MP maps with the karkand bunch within 30 days of launch and that's somehow a bad thing? Ummm sure.

It's a good thing. I agree with your post. Some people are hard yobokease because of entitlement that we all posses... Some more than others. 16 maps is sweet, frostbite 2 is sweet, bf2 weapons is awesome! And karkand is well gonna be amazing!!

I loved infantry karkand.

When you buy a game from Steam or Origin, can you burn the game onto a DVD? Or is there no way to physically back it up? Just curious. I know Origin and Steam have unlimited installs and keep your purchases linked to your account but i still like having things backed up on a DVD (always have burned a backup windows dvd)

It's not that we're so obsessed with steam that we won't have it any other way. It's the fact that Steam has made everything so much easier, and it's a single location for my game collection. It's like if you had to download more than one music player on your computer so you could listen to certain albums from certain recording studios. I don't want to have to worry about installing more software to play the game when the system I have now works perfectly fine. Plus, it's more software running in the background, more hassle, and less simplicity. It's just one more account to have to remember, and more software to install on each new computer.

I just think it's a backward step for PC gaming. The effort of the cloud is to have a centralized location for data, and I just think EA creating their own system, that is clearly never going to be a replacement for steam is just making everyone's lives a lot more difficult. It makes people less likely to become PC gamers when they need more software to install, and a, lets be honest, steeper "learning curve" to be in the "know" when it comes to the right software that is needed to be installed to just play a game.

I understand all that and, I in fact, share how you feel. I like having all my games in 1 cozy place with the friends list all in one place etc etc. That said steam is a business not a free service. As a business their motive first and foremost is profit not being pc gamers friends. They do what they do because it works for them and makes them money. We as customers need to realize this and as such also realize that having 1 huge monopoly in the DD realm is ultimately bad for us as consumers. We need there to be competition to keep everyone honest. You see steam's prices they pretty much suck with the exception of a once in a while sale or the two big sales we get every year. One in July and the other the christmas week sale. Other than that they suck price wise. D2D is generally much better on day 1 pricing. Why does steam's prices suck? easy answer because they have such a huge user base they don't have to lower their prices to attract customers. This isn't good for us period.

Bottom line...have all your games in one place and for that you will generally pay more for games. Unless you only buy on the massive sales only. Have your games scattered a bit on a few different DD platforms( yes a pain in the ass) but pay less. I choose pay less and deal with it. It's not the end of the world. Steam being as big as they are doesn't help us.

I' m pretty sure there is a way but I've never attempted too. Never saw a need too all I do is load up the steam client on whatever computer I'm on (when necessary) and download whatever games I need. No need for dvd's ever.

Iv never done it with a Steam game, i guess its more BF3 specific, just cause its such a huge game for me, and i wish i did own it as a physical copy, but i really think i'll buy it on Origin. I guess its the lack of trust in Origin that has me a lil skiddish. Not that i have a problem with them, EA isnt high on my list of "good companies" but Origin seems cool and good for the consumer.

Frankly I want a straight answer from either Steam or EA about BF3 being released on Steam. I'm waiting to see if it will be before I preorder, and the dead silence is starting to piss me off.

Even if you can get it on Steam, it will be just like getting it from anywhere else. The server browser will be it's own either in-game or like the web-based one from the alpha (hoping its in-game). Also, it won't be protected by VAC.

The only pluses would be the overlay which you can more than likely use anyway by just adding it to Steam and it would be easy to locate/redownload if you should ever need to without using another place of distribution.

Outside of that, what's the draw to have it on Steam versus anywhere else?

I don't understand how you can say that their prices suck? They charge the same as retail prices, and you can get great deals when the sales come around.

If you're expecting them to be much lower since they don't need a warehouse, or physical copies of the game, that's an unreasonable expectation.

It costs quite a bit of money to host that much data at a datacenter, including all of the infrastructure and management costs. Bandwidth is another thing. To be honest, I think the prices are much better than retail prices in the sense that you can download the copy of a game as many times as you want. You generally lose your game when you lose or break the DVD of a physical game. Considering I could download up to 100GB+ of games every time I move to a new computer, or I want to have the same games on my laptop, as my desktop, it's actually really cheap considering the service you get. With ~3 Million users on at any given time, I can only imagine the amount of data that Steam has to handle.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a discussion about Steam vs. Origin, but I think it's worth saying.

None, I want it on steam for those reasons. And if it's not going to be on Steam, I want someone to come out and say so.

You think EA's going to go out of business anytime soon? What risk is there to buying a game from EA's DD service if they don't go out of business and close their servers? I'm not seeing it.

I'm a fan of steam overall dude don't misunderstand me. What I'm saying is competition is good to keep any company ( even the almighty Valve who walks on water here) honest some what.

As far as prices go their prices suck compared to D2D as just one example. D2D typically has brand new games (including pre orders) for about 10-12 less than steam or retail ( ala gamestop, bestbuy, walmart and target etc). Yes I know server infarstructure costs money and so does bandwidth but if other DD channels can charge less and make it work the almighty steam can't? More like they don't want or have too since they have ernough people like YOU who will pay whatever they ask because they love the service so much. What's hard to understand about this? If you're gonna sit there and compare their pricing to regular retail and say they are on par and that's ok then I say bullshit to that. Since when I buy the physical copy I get the box to put on my shelf with my games collection along with the actual dvd and manuals which costs more than a digital copy costs valve or any other DD. As far as the ability to redownload where ever a nd when ever is nice no doubt but if I have the physical DVD I don't have to worry about that. Not to mention there is no wait to play the game I can play as soon as it installs off my DVD. No wait for a download. Broken DVD's seriously? I have cd's from 1993 in perfect condition in their orignal boxes. Maybe some of you guys need to learn to take better care of your stuff? Just saying...

Their sales are good yes no doubt but those are twice a year. Wanna play a AAA title be prepared to pay up.

Both have pros and cons but please don't make it sound like steam is all godly and has our best interests at heart. They have their own interests at heart first and those interests happen to coincide with ours then all the better but if not then not.

Haha no, i dont see that happening. And i also assume BF3 will be the longest MP game played that EA offers (like how long BF2 multiplayer has lasted) so i dont think they will drop the game from their service either. Idk, peace of mind? It might be my 2 sides fighting, one that likes DD and the other that likes owning the physical copy. Let me put it this way now, id like to know if you can burn them onto DVD as a backup, but for no good reason lol.

Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted!

rofl pretty much.

Hopefully I get to stand over dead enemies in BF3 and say "get 1st aid here! get 1st aid here!". Need ammo?

God that pisses people off and I love it :p

I want to see in-game voice chat broadcast into the environment. So if I'm hiding behind a rock 3 feet from someone, I can't be screaming out to my squad for help until they're far enough away to not hear me.

Plus I really want my enemies to hear what I have to say after I shank their camping ass from behind. :)

Damn, I want to pre-order and get those bonuses. (And I want it off Origin, for the beta access) But I want that 25% code thingy! E-mail still hasn't shown up.

Same here, I went ahead and paid full price... I'm sure BF3 will be worth it :D.

Seriously, name the last thing you paid $60 for that gave you hundreds of hours of enjoyment.

Ok after typing that...well let's just see the responses.

Except it's english vs russian or something then. Nice idea, but it has complications. :)

TF2 I have 120 hours logged. BFBC2....15 hours at best. I gave up on that turd a while ago. Dragon Age 2, at full PRE ORDERED PRICE was a better fucking value than BC2.

I think many, many, many BC2 players would disagree with you. It's good fun, and significantly better than our other current FPS options.

I see your point. They definitely should just straight up say whether it will be or it won't be. Neither party seems to be willing to divulge that bit of information.

Um, yeah. I have 2 level 50's plus a "I'm way too drunk for this" soldier. All in all about 1000 hours in BC2.

Best $60.00 I've ever spent. Well, there was that time in South Vietnam... :p

Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted! Enemy boat spotted!

Muted. Muted. Muted. Kicked by admin. Banned by admin. That guy was a douche.

On the other hand, the only person that should be spamming like that is the commander.

Ok I'm officially not getting BF3 now. My shit internet connection can't even handle a full game (16v16)of BFBC2...hit reg goes completely out the window and I continually get fucked in the face by bullets that bend around corners one after the other. Same with any other FPS I play.

BFBC2 ;), and it's one of the few games I've decided to pay full price for in the last few years :p. Hence I am perfectly comfortable with buying BF3 for the full price as well when I can be pretty sure (for as far as one can be) that I'll spend several hundred hours playing it too.

EDIT: Oh and by the way, why would a game need to provide hundreds of hours of entertainment to be worth $60 ?

I know right? Hand jobs last way shorter then that.
