Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

How many fps can I expect with a GTX 570 Super OC @ 1920x1080 high options (not ultra?)

What CPU?

60+ at least if you are just using High.

And Volume that driver is not new, it has been out since yesterday :)

2500k @ stock speeds, 8GB DDR3-1600.

Wow, 60 fps? I was expecting like 40.

OC that CPU. I noticed a massive jump from 2.66ghz to 4.2ghz in my W3520. I went from 30-40FPS to 50-60FPS. GTX 460 with a slight OC at 1920x1080. You will be very happy :)

Also I have no stuttering anymore, maybe I have those shadows though not sure, never enough time to check :p

See, those settings aren't "maxed out" - so telling people you can run "maxed out" with a single 6950 is spreading mis-information. By definition, maxed out means that all the settings would be at their maximum setting.

Oh my, everything is maxed but aa. game looks fine without it on, cry me a river

its becoming impossible to find a good, lag free 64 player server.

Not to mention, Battlelog only shows the first x number of servers when you hit refresh, and when you sort by player count you have to scroll down the find the rest of the servers...except they are now out of order. Horrible.

Make sure you favorite good servers. Doesn't make sense to hop from one to another if you already have five great ones to choose from.

Now that I've eliminated the stutter, I had good fun on the [H] server. I would like to see more of guys there!
Make sure to add it to your favorites.

I don't have BF3 yet (waiting for 20% off or better sale) but I bought FIFA 12 from Origin recently and had the same issue with the patch for that game. The reason was because EA didn't set the game exe to run as admin but once I set it as admin the patch installed and never tried to install again. Maybe that will fix it for you.

Thanks. I did set bf3.exe and origin.exe to run as admin last night. Just crashed out between rounds again. Always at the second the smokey background appears. I should probably just give up but the game is so damn fun while it's running.

I turned my OC and HT back on since turning them off didn't help. The game seems to benefit from CPU speed. Overclocked feels smoother to me on the same server.

I'm at 3 hours total playtime. Pathetic waste of a day. My own fault (but not PEBKAC).

We all have the latest flash... even tried different browsers. It just doesn't work. Co-op won't work either.

Weird. I was having issues with it until one of my friends pointed out that he had Flash version 10.x instead of 11.x. Updated and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Wow something up with the servers right now? Everytime I Join a server there's only like 5 people in there even though it says 20+ in the browser. After about 30 seconds, I get disconnected.

EA servers probably puking under the stress.

Happened last night, went away after a little while.

well of course Origin, I was checking the install for errors because I heard that fixed me getting kicked every 5 seconds. I come back to find that Origin had changed the install folder for the games, and won't let me change it back no matter what. Says it's in use, and try again later. After trying everything, only thing I can do now is reinstall at 500kbs. FML I won't be playing any more tonight...

I'm contemplating picking this game up based on the footage in the commercials, but I'm concerned about system specs as my box is about 2.5 years old now. Does anyone know if my system will handle this engine at all?

Windows 7
Radeon HD 4830 512MB
4GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz

So it turns out I can play the low settings, but it's really sketchy and the sound skips often.

Just hit Newegg and grabbed the Gigabyte GeForce 560 Ti and upgraded my 4GB DDR2 800 to 8GB DDR2 1066. Let's hope this does this trick. Note: when looking through my previous orders for the system specs I just realized I bought the wrong RAM when I originally build the system. I've been running slightly underclocked this whole time! /facepalm

FYI the Gigabyte card comes with the new Batman game AND a $20 rebate. Not a bad deal for $220.

That CPU will hold it back quite a bit, my I7 @ 2.66ghz was holding my performance back..4.2ghz brought about 10FPS more on average

Ugh, just got home from work eager to play. Patch is downloading at 200kb a sec and less. Normally would be at 1.5MB. It is destined for me not to play today....

Ya I've been having problems with that too. I'll get on a server and then get kicked for no reason. It just says that I was disconnected, no reason why. Hence my other post telling people to hold off on buying, if they haven't yet. I'm sure not saying it is a bad game, but right now it has issues that need ironing out. I wish I'd waited myself.

The browser also really seems to be slow in terms of showing numbers. I'll see a server that allegedly has free space, hit join, and get told it is full. I'll refresh the list and it still shows as having free space.

Im getting 60FPS+ on ultra textures, everything else on high.

Its possible to get playable framerate with everything on ultra Probably around 30's.
I just like my game 60fps smooth so I keep it at the default settings.

Very easily over 60fps (usually much higher); w/ a Q9550, 5870, 8gb ram; all "high" setting", and everything else off; 1920x1200.;) Dice has done a great job w/ this game; it was a great 1st day release. Glad I didn't freak out from the beta, and not buy.

If it's going over 1gb of Vram, per other threads, who cares; it has had no effect on the fps that I'm seeing.

The CPU & mobo will get upgraded in the next upgrade phase. I keep the costs down and the system fresh by using a 5 year cycle when I build a new system from scratch. For example, based on a build date of Jan 2010, here's what the upgrade cycle looks like:

Phase 1:
At 2.5 years refresh the video card and RAM. (June/July 2011)
Note: I'm a little behind on this phase since I hadn't been playing games this summer so I had no need to upgrade really.

Phase 2
At 3.5 years refresh the CPU & mobo. (June/July 2012)

Phase 3
At 5 years replace the hard drives (Jan 2015). At this phase I'll put my old drives into storage as this is my method of doing "backups". I just make a dupe of all the data onto fresh drives as the old ones exit their warranty and approach their MTBF.

I've learned from past experience that you can't expect to upgrade all the components at once since some pieces start disappearing from the market, namely due to ever evolving socket types for the RAM & CPUs. It's too expensive IMO to upgrade the RAM, CPU, Mobo, & Video card every time I upgrade, and trying to upgrade just the CPU at 5 years doesn't work due to changing socket types. Doing the mobo & cpu at the same time makes sense as they tend to be backwards compatible with the old ram. The new ram & video card really does a good job of beefing things up, which is where I'll be at this phase anyway.

I try to build new systems in the fall/winter since the holiday sales are so good. The added bonus is that the video card upgrade coincides with the industry upgrade path so I can pick up that year's mid-grade model as it goes on sale when the upgraded versions are announced/released during the summer.

USe Quick match for now.I am still on the Single player but my Son had the same issue and when he went quick match.........no disconnects

I'll say no..but you should be able to turn it up enough where it looks awesome.

I went ultra at the same res with a 560TI and had a few slow downs so I went ultra with 2x msaa and Post set to High and things are smooth. 48 FPS for low and highs in the 70's

Mouse felt better in beta than they do in the release... wtf? It feels like there's smoothing despite having raw input on. Also, the sensitivity for vehicles is way higher, something they also left out too.

I can barely connect with the quick match for some reason. But the server browser, outside of no pings and inaccurate numbers, works fine.

Man it is so weird, I also disconnect my wireless adaptor and went hard wire..... perhaps there is something there . I went hardwire to give my kid every advantage

I thought this as well. To me, the game overall isn't as "smooth" as I felt it was in beta.

I haven't noticed any mouse issues. I have to drop my G500 down a notch on DPI when I'm infantry, then back up when I get in a vehicle/turret, but that's it.

Easiest fix for that is to scroll first, then sort. Had to start doing that to sort by ping time.

I am getting better performance now that I uninstalled/reinstalled the AMD 11.10 Preview 3 drivers and didn't install CAP3.

Running at these settings, almost constant 60fps. Noticed some minor FPS dropping (and I mean minor, dipping to maybe 50 FPS) in heavy fighting. With Deferred MSAA any higher I get larger drops and to be honest, I looks just fine to me with only 2xMSAA

Currently my main complaint is the lack of a full screen map. Really hard to judge where you should be going based on the tiny ass one that requires you to hit esc.
