Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Not sure what you guys are spending so much money on, I built the rig in my sig for ~$1400 (sans panel).

Haha, I know. I'll be keeping my set up the same until I see how the Tahiti cards do or if there are deals I can't pass up next month on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. The cpu doesn't matter much in BF3, it seems, and my 920 still has plenty of life in it (wish my d0 didn't die!!!)

I'd still like to get a SATA3/USB3 capable motherboard but that has nothing to do with BF3.

That 120hz monitor, though...has got to be lovely

Nice! The price looks good, but I have a couple of questions. I see on Origin you get the Physical Warfare pack included, but not on Amazon? not a huge deal if those weapons are unlocked during MP progression.

yeah they're items that everyone will eventually be able to unlock: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/06/16/physical-warfare-pack-available-to-all-battlefield-3-players.aspx

When I tested beta, I only had to put my credentials in once.. never asked me again. Google Chrome.

it worked the same way for me using firefox.

Ahh browser based password keeping. I'll check it out once the game is released. I usually make it a point to never use them (to force me to remember them and to a lesser extent paranoia.)

You can disable saving passwords in the options.

Kinda OT, but I just noticed from your sig that you're only running at 2.93 GHz with a Corsair H50 on there. Even with a C0 chip I think you could definitely push to at least 3.8 GHz. I've got a C0 chip myself and I'm only on a decent air cooler, not water, and I'm getting 3.8 GHz out of it at 1.35V no problem. 3.9 is semi-stable but 3.8 has been the only one that was completely, 100% stable.

Anyway, I guess I'm saying that if you want even more life out of that 920 you should try to OC it some more.

NEW mp VIDEO GUYS!!! looks awesome !!!!HATERS gonna hate anyways dont buy it!!!!!!:p

nice... at 0:37 a guy kills a chopper pilot with his M16. That will be useful. In BC2 unless you're an engineer you can't do much damage to choppers... (well you could snipe the pilot with a sniper riffle.. but who the hell plays reccon :p)

You kill anyone in a chopper with any gun, but the Blackhawk was a turkey shoot with an MG36 or the M416 (best iron sights!) if you were assault. Had a few pistol kills on the occupants before, too.

Definitely hated being shotgunned out of the back of the damn thing, haha.

are you talking about BF3 beta or BC2?

I did not have the time to test this out in BF3 Beta.

Oops, didn't notice this before my last post.

I can't even hit 3.3ghz and I think it is my RAM. I'll bump it up to 3.1 next week and see how it does under the stress of BF3 (I'd still like to have overhead) but in retrospect I should have gone with ram capable of 1600. Guess I'll be on the lookout

Druneau: Bad Company 2. The same should hold true for BF3, though: if you can be seen you can be shot.

Pretty sure I sniped someone out of the chopper as it rolled past me in Vietnam.

Thanks for posting this again. Tired of searching for my hidden password file.
When I installed my SSD, I forgot the name to download it again.

No sweat, KeePass really is the best and most secure password saver. The file extention is .kdb and I think the default file is Default.kdb incase you are ever looking for it.

I have to say that DICE knows how to make a trailer. Everything they put out on Youtube gets me blood pumpin'. :D

new nvidia drivers are being released the day before launch:

ManuelG @ NVIDIA said:
FYI. New drivers will be released the day before Battlefield 3 launches. Make sure to grab them especially if you will be purchasing Battlefield 3 as there are numerous bug fixes and better performance as well. For those who have modded the latest Quadro driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-tesla-win7-winvista-64bit- 285.58-whql-driver.html) it is very close to the final driver but is missing a few Battlefield 3 fixes so if you do download and mod them, make sure to update to the newest Geforce drivers next week. The Quadro driver does contain the fix we've added to address the TDR issue.

As if I wasn't already hyped enough! That trailer gave me the chills... I can not wait till the 25th. I feel bad for my clan mates in the UK.

Just scheduled to have my wisdom teeth removed at 9:00 am on the 25th. I don't think I will ever be so happy to have teeth pulled again. :D

Couldn't wait, it got to me. I was going to hold off on purchasing the game until a week or 2 then check the buzz on it. Nope. I wonder if they're going to have a Midnight Launch at Gamestop USA ?
I got a e-mail from GS Canada and they are.

When they were hacked a few months back, I canceled my membership.
KeePass on my PC rather than in a cloud.
I don't really keep enough things that I'm worried about. Plus, I'm considering going lastpass premium and using a key to do that.

Another interesting bit of vehicle unlock information is that flares (which should help you dodge incoming missiles while flying a jet) will be the first unlock available unlock for the jets. Thylander provides us with his line of thinking behind it: “Basically, prove you can fly and get any points whatsoever, and we’ll give you flares.” Some fans have been wishing that the flare unlock would be available sooner than what it was in the Beta, so this should come as good news to them as well.

Lastly, the recent trailer (included in a link up top) also revealed some shots of some of the maps found in the Back to Karkand expansion pack. Make sure to check that out if you haven’t yet already. Lately, DICE has revealed that the “Back to Karkand will be similar to Vietnam in that it will be a full expansion pack.” If it is, indeed, similar to the Vietnam expansion pack that was released for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, we could speculate that it will be around the same price of $15 and that it will have it’s own title screen in the Battlefield 3 main menu. This would also mean that all the weapons and maps would be exclusive to this separate playlist and would not be available in the regular one.
