Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

You mean premium players? ;)

LOL

I wish DICE would just run a stats thing, compile the mean and standard deviation for the "hits per kill" for every gun on the global player population.
Anybody in the top 0.5% should get investigated.

If a gun regularly takes 2-6 shots to kill a full health player depending on skill (and 2 shots would be like ELITE ELITE SKILL where almost every hit was a headshot), somebody gets 1.5 shots/kill?

The probability of this happening over 2000 shots?

Means someone spends way more time with the game than you. Just because you can't even get close to someone's statistical skill level doesn't mean it's naturally unattainable. FTR, I am using "you" in a general sense.

I think "you" (in a general sense, nothing personal of course brosef) don't quite get what's happening, let me run the numbers

I'll take the M27IAR Again:

1) Bullet damage: On average 18.4-25, Headshots X2.
2) To kill a guy with full health (100), it takes anywhere from 2 headshot "hits" to 6 "bodyshot hits" (2-6 hits, depending on "skill")
3) It will take less than 2 hits to kill if the player you shoot was not at full health
4) Certain hits will not result in kills because another player will have claimed the kill.

So you're telling me, with a gun that takes 2 headshots to kill a full health player, a player can average 1.5 shots/kill over 2000 shots? So EVERYTIME he gets a kill, he's shooting at a player with reduced health, and the number of 1shot to 2 shot kills he's getting is so large, it wipes out all the hits he's getting on players that he didn't claim a kill on?

http://bf3stats.com/stats_pc/rivalxfactor

For comparison, I looked up Rivalxfactor's stats, becasue he's not cheating and he's good. Rivalxfactor is probably a good example of an "elite" player who we know is not cheating.

His hit/kill ratio for the M27 IAR? 3000 hits, 465 kills.

So for an elite player, it takes almost on average 7 hits to get a kill with the M27 IAR, and this guy kills with an average of 1.5 hits?

--
Again, nothing personal, just pointing out that this is beyond skill

Other known "really good" players

http://bf3stats.com/stats_pc/mongolfps
Mongol FPS - 2700/500, so around 5 hits/kill

http://bf3stats.com/stats_pc/NoVaPwnstar
pwnstar: 5000/1000, also 5 hits/kill

So, you're telling me that the best known players need 5 hits to kill with this gun, and the fact that this guy only needs 1.5 is dependent on SKILL?

Skill, playing style, competition, internet connection, teammates.

So my basic stance is that there are way too many other variables to factor in. When you crunch numbers in the way that you did, it looks improbable. But I don't crunch numbers, I just play the game. *shrug*

He may end up being a cheater, but there's too much fun to be had to worry about every single cheater. Maybe I'm desensitized because I became good at FPS'es during CS Beta 6. And near the last few years of CS, cheating was so rampant it was almost funny.

You're probably right and he may very well be a cheater. But there's no point in discussing it here though because the majority of players are oblivious, naive and refuse to believe that anyone in this game cheats until it actually happens to them.

Just like when some retard is going like 70-1 in a plane and I initiate a vote kick because he obviously doesn't belong in the server where his skill level is far far greater than everyone else and there's no competition at all, just farming kills in the jet....but no one else will ever vote.

I think it's more-so that the majority of the players don't experience cheating so they show apathy to the vocal minority that do.

Also, You know what I do when I get jet raped? Switch servers. I learned that back in BF2.

never bothered with vote-kicks because people just don't like to vote. <insert election reference/metaphor/joke here> :)

I really, really, do not like to start hackusations in a game unless it's like the "medkit slaughters whole team" thing, but I'm a big believer in number-crunching. If you look at stat details, and there are some obvious outliers and even improbable re-occuring events, then there is probably something wrong.

Again though, do we know if he is playing normal or hardcore? Those types of hits:kill ratio aren't too odd for HC.

Been a while since i've played. I got the expansion pack coz my clanmates were playing with that but haven't actually tried the new maps yet.

I haven't tried out the new weapons yet either so i fell back to my previous loadout. Apparently, the G3 + Rail + MASS, is now gay?

I'm pretty sure they patched that glitch out a long time ago

There was a glitch? Mind explaining what it was?

EDIT: Wow!

The glitch essentially made it so that when the MASS is fired, each pellet had the same damage of a single shot from the main weapon allowing for a potential maximum damage of 403 if used in conjunction with a G3A3 while at the same time making it so a slug round does the damage of a single assault rifle shot, making it very ineffective. This glitch grew worse when using the M26 DART. DICE had acknowledged this as an unintended feature and removed it via the 1.05 patch. They however only fixed the exploit and not the flaw, the flaw being the slug rounds still fire a single rifle round rather than a slug itself when using the Underslung Rail/Heavy Barrel combination.

Each pellet = 1 rifle round? So i should be able to 1 hit kill from long range. Tho to be honest, i didn't feel a difference :p

This video was just before i went into hiatus.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8UQ0Z9-4kg

So this was glitched? It felt like a normal shotgun to me and it still works the same way now

each pellet fired from underslung got its damage from the parent gun. so a g3 would shoot 34 damage pellets at close range instead of 18 or 22 instead of 6 at range.

Looked at a few youtube videos and it seems the reason i didn't notice was because i only use the MASS at point blank to the head (Damage per pellet doesn't matter at that point :p). The ones in the videos were practically sniping with them. Honestly tho, why bother? The G3's main gun is more reliable at the ranges they were using the glitched MASS

Anyway, maybe i should go back and check if they did anything the the IR scopes and Javelines :p

I've got to agree here. Nothing against skilled players, but getting slaughtered by the jet pros (I'm talking about the lvl 100 colonels w/ 1,500 hours logged and 10,000+ jet kills) really ruins the fun for me. Probably my only beef with my BF3 gameplay experience.

It's actually even worse now that the maximum ceiling for jets is non-existant.

I don't believe this is how that works. Shotties have their own damage patterns.

+1 here. Hate 100% jet whores.

Yep, I always quit when someone like that is playing. Not before I tell them what I think about it first though obviously.

Definitely a good question.

1) It would be nice to see an effort made to implement some sort of weight system that either a) pits highly the hardcore players against other hardcore players and casual players against other casual players or b) discourages/penalizes experienced players from beating up too badly on casual players.

2) Nerf jets to some extent. BF3 in general has a much higher skill ceiling than something like MW3. This is one of the reasons why many people, myself included, really dig BF3--the game lets you pull off a kill in just about any way you can think of. While this is probably the game's greatest strength, it's can also make BF3 very unfriendly to the casual player. Nowhere is this effect as prominent as with the jets.

For this reason I've found myself enjoying myself the most on CQ maps. They seem to have a lower overall skill ceiling giving everyone a more even chance of scoring some points. I love the traditional BF experience found in Conquest on the vehicle maps, but find that I do so poorly against the hardcore players that it lessens the fun-factor for me.

I know this goes completely against the "modern" setting, but I really wish all planes were as balanced as the ones in BF1942. All the vehicles in BF3 can do everything too well. I really miss the Air > Land > Infantry > Air balance chain.

I don't think it has so much do to with "modern" setting as much as it does DICE dumbing down vehicles for accessibility. If they made the plane controls more advanced and clunky, like in real life, planes and "expert" pilots wouldn't be half the problem they are currently. For example, planes are much too maneuverable in the game. If they made the flight physics and patterns more realistic so that you'd stall, blackout, or more based on G's, turning radii, climbs, etc. so that planes could really only do strafing runs back and forth, they wouldn't be so much of a problem. Same goes for tanks, helicopters, and any other vehicle.

This game is dead. I simply cannot find a populated server. Does it have something to do with the hurricane or something?

I have over 25 servers bookmarked and they ALWAYS have players in them. WTF are you talking about.

I think HALO does that for matchmaking

Could you guys PM me with the names of some of your favorite servers that are populated. I am having trouble finding good 64 player servers. Specifically I am looking for a server with a community and some teamwork.

Actually I would be interested in any server where the game is being played as intended as long as there is some kind of map rotation.

I was playing on a server called " Nice and Friendly 2" but it died out recently. Perhaps my filters are set wrong I will try tonight.

Has anyone had issues uninstalling this game? I couldn't do it last night from the control panel. The uninstall reg. keys were not even there. I was able to remove it manually and get it removed from the control panel, however it was a little concerning.

Did they change the weapon locks? I was on a hill by myself, sniping with a 3.5x scope and i got killed by a javeline

Add me on battlelog with the same name. I'll gladly send you some server names.
