Battlefield 2142

Just got my new PC Gamer. This made the front cover. So im looking at the screenies and its looks horrible plain!!! Looks like they stuck in a mech warrior and took the old stuff from BF2 and made it futuristic with a curve here and there. They are definitely not getting my money on this. Come on DICE, say screw EA and work on a quality game and get a publisher that wont rush your sweet work. We know you have it in you!!!
Yeah too bad EA bought DICE. Linky

Battlefield: Halo Edition

This smells to much like BF:V, and we all know how that turned out...

That's what I was thinking when I saw the trailer.

It's basically the BFV of BF2.

Meh. Also, the logo sucks. 2142 Battlefield? Que?? lol

Just to reiterate what I said in the other thread:

Is this real? The graphics dont look anywhere near as good as BF2, the mech designs arent that great, and its coming out this year? Like wtf?

Dice should stop wasting their time with crap like this and patch BF2 so that its not ridden with bugs. Sheesh, as if they have a hope in hell of competing with Quake Wars or UT2007.....oh joy we can play the same old tired conquest mode with futuristic vehicles, woop dee doo

If they can't get the guns in bf2 right how do they expect to do a futuristic game... wait a minute. If they mess up the futuristic weapons.. no one will know!

..lol

Now I understand why it takes so long and there are so many delays with patches/packs: They're working on the next game. It frustrates me that EA wants to "move on" to the next game already and the BF2 community is still growing. I saw that their quarterly profits were down again so I guess another push on this successful series is in order. *sigh* We, the gamers, will suffer once again from a product pushed out the door too soon. THIS time I hope the community steps up and waits for reviews/patches to come out before rushing to buy the game. (me included) I know 2142 isn't out just yet but I'll bet my first-born that this game is buggy and "rushed".

I don't know what you're talking about, 1.21 has fixed pretty much every major bug and rebalanced the game. BF2 is in a much, much better position than BF1942 was less than a year after launch.

Remember, DICE has 2 studios, Dice: Canada and Dice: Sweden.

Here is more news if no one has seen it yet

Kikizo News on Battlefield 2142

Looking good but I wish they would completely fix Battlefield 2 first, I still get buggyness on the server tab with the latest patch (1.21) and choppy frame rate with medium settings.

lmao!

The stuff I saw of BF2142 looked good to me. However remember whatever we're seeing now is not the highest quality textures that will be avaialalble. Remember, demos do this too. You get lower quality textures to keep the demo size down.

What will be interesting is the battle between Quake Wars and this. Quake Wars will look better, but as a result, more PC power will be needed, and the maps might be smaller. Also, since BF2142 will probably have ranks and unlockable weapons, a lot of people will prefer it to QW, imo. At least among fans of the BF series. Should be an interesting match up.

I would think the new BF game would take more PC hardware than Quake Wars. Isn't QW based on the Doom 3 engine? Quake 4 ran smoother for me than BF2 did on the same hardware. I dunno...

I just want them to fix BF2 before abandoning it for BF2142. :(

OMG I thought I posted here. BF2142 is coming out this year, EA said Autumn but I doubt it, I think sometime in Fall but it's just my feeling... Now I just can't help but to think about it as BF2 in a new skin, which would have the BF:V feeling when it came out, BF1942 in a new dress. Anyway if they don't fix BF2 completely before BF2142 we will be left with an unfinished game because looking at EA/DICE past track they stopped supporting games after releasing new one... Link below has some info..

please EA , fix bf2 before releasing anything else from that franchise

What "issues" are you guys having with Battlefield 2? What is not fixed? I haven't noticed problems at all and I'm running on rather dated technology.

BF 2 has been out for about 2 years or whatever now. Do you honestly think EA would have all their developers sitting around for the last 2 years working on nothing but minor bug fixes?

NO

Besides things like Special Forces and Euro Force expansions.....They probably have had developers working on titles you haven't even heard of yet, no company can afford to pay developers to just sit around and work on piddly crap. While perhaps dolphin diving is a huge deal to you, it isn't really a big deal to EA, they just care about profit, they already have your money so they will only dedicate a small resource to fixing the bugs in their games. There is no reason for EA to dedicate 100 developers to solving things like dolphin diving and jump shooting and all that other crap.

I think 2142 looks pretty sweet, it definately has the potential to be a good game. Lets just hope they have a reasonable deadline to work with so the finished product is quality.

Sorry I'm having a hard time trusting anything you say after that statement. BF2 released June of 2005.

But I agree that EA just wants to make money. Which is fine. We just suffer because of it.

I for one loved BF:V so that's good news to me. ;)

Looks like fun and I wouldn't mind more variety in the BF games. You've got Past, Present and Future.

EA said Autumn but I doubt it, I think sometime in Fall but it's just my feeling...
Ummm, Autumn and Fall are the same thing.

Good lord only June of 2005? I got to lay off the sauce... I swear this game has been out for what seems like 2 years now :p

Don't fall asleep reading all the "issues"... (and these are just the issues since the LATEST patch)

http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=20816&sid=5e3530d5114d294526579f596aa00aec

Have you been living under a rock for the past year? lol

Since when did bugs = game tuning issues? I just read the first page of that thread but much of it looks like whining over what is fair and not fair. I myself play on a server that is NOT ranked and has strict rules enforced at all times. The gameplay is much better than on any other server I have encountered. I don't mean to be an EA defender or anything but the fact that they are even LISTENING to people on a forum and TUNING the game for better playability and balance is pretty cool considering there is NO monthly fee (like WoW). Not many companies do this in the real business world. You buy a car and you don't get aftermarket equipment installed to make it go quicker, handle better, etc.

I want to clarify though that I'm stating my .02 based on my play on tacticalgamer.com servers, not public or ranked servers. Maybe they have certain things on/off for balance purposes and I am oblivious to the fact.

I'll list the most popular bugs (not gameplay issues) for those who don't want to read the whole post:

1. Red/Blue name tag
2. AT missle rocket going through vehicles and double-launching
3. AA missles locking onto friendly when enemy is present
4. Print screen button causes crashes and/or major slowdown and graphical degredation
5. Battle recorder playing crashes when certain in-game events happen
6. Sniper rifle zoom doesn't stay zommed after moving the reticle
7. Random crashes

There's more but these are the most popular ones. I think EA has responded pretty well to the consumers but I just think that BF2 is so far from "finished" and now they're introducing the next one.

Gameplay issues don't bug me much but the bugs do. They've had 9 months to patch the game and still haven't fixed basic problems.

I myself have experienced #1 and #7, game likes to dump to the desktop from time to time. #3 I chaulked up as something that might happen in a normal battle, maybe I'm wrong.

As for having 9 months to patch it well... Microsoft has had 5 years to fix XP :)

LOL, I know. Somehow I was thinking about August when was writing this. gotta sleep more

There's no way EA finishes 2142 by fall. They'll push it back and then they'll push it out the door unfinished. :D

Now... back to BF2...

No, were suffering because we keep paying them to spit out a reheat of their last thing.

Patches don't make money, new products do, why on earth would EA waste money paying coders to work on free stuff like patches, when they could be working on something that we'll pay for, like idiots?

Booster packs...

to bring back the WW1 idea. It would be cool until you consider that half the time you try to fly a plane or launch artillery it would jam or break and you'd crash or get your arms blown off or worse. How fun would that be to use early grenade tech and go to throw it only to have the game engine randomly decide that it goes off early and the rest of the round you get to play with a stump that slowly degenerates your health becuase it's infected.

Now onto BF2, there are still some issues they keep saying they've fixed only to have them show up. How about making a game where it's says in the help section of their website that you have to install it on the C drive for it to work properly. This isn't exactly true as I'm running on the D drive and no issues, but it means that some people out there have experienced an issue becuase they chose a different drive. with games taking up more and more space if you can't install without having to reformat and reinstall windows so you can change partition sizes there is an issue.

I don't think it's so much an issue of them having issues, but having issues they keep saying they have fixed, and having issues that are just purely random. there is no way to avoid some issues like random crashes. I've reinstalled BF2 3 times. the first time it was on a pretty much clean install of XP, with only the needed processes going, and I'd get crashes. the second time I installed with the same version and patches it got rid of the random crashes but it wouldn't read my CD's spec forces or vanilla bf2, I kept getting a BF2.exe error. Third install has been going for a month or so on the d drive, something you're not supposed to do as outlined above and it's worked great. Except now there seems to be an issue with them updating my stats, before I'd get promoted while still playing rounds and now it takes up to a week for my points to be posted. Not sure if this is a EA update server issue or because I'm on the D drive. I've also experienced the red and blue name issue and it sucks getting punished for a TK when you were sure it was the enemy because of the bug. It's a random event as well. I can deal with that I guess, I've only had 4 TK's all because of this, so it's not rampant but still it shouldn't be an issue at all.
