Battlefield 2042

Be real nice if I could upgrade my video card for this game and not pay 2x the MSRP. Ugh.

some people are starting to sell their mining rigs, you might be able to get a card off them. a 3070 for maybe $700, idk.

I think if you're in the market for a card you have to either buy one now or wait and see if there's a sell off from miners due to eth 2.0. its suppose to happen between feb-june last I heard.

My concern is the ability to rent servers. From what I have been reading you will not be able to rent servers with BF2042.....So how the fuck are you going to have portal servers that are up 24/7?

If they don't allow dedicated servers for portal, talk about a HUGE mistake if you ask me.
I think it was jackfrags who stated the servers will only stay up if 1 real person is in the server. So if at midnight everyone jumps off, the session terminates until an admin opens it up again and joins the server. Pretty weak IMO.

That was later confirmed in this PC Gamer article.

https://www.pcgamer.com/au/battlefield-portal-announced-ea-play/

So yes, the "dedicated" servers get spun up and down, it does not look like there will be any permanency except for popular rotations/modes/settings hosted by EA.

Probably has to be done this way because when a game server instance spins up, it allocates virtual resources on a physical server somewhere, it's not an infinite resource. Multiply by userbase messing around in their own sandbox for a bit before drifting to another game mode, and there'd be hundreds of thousands of idle/abandoned instances at any given time.

They should let instances favorited by X number of players gain persistence. Or a paid persistence option (rental) FFS. But I predict dedicated clans finding workarounds to keep a server alive anyway, with activity scripts or bots.

I was playing BF4 the other night and had a guy bitch at me for using a jeep armed with C4. I took out three tanks with one jeep. :)
how many servers are there that aren't the same map 24/7 or a tiny rotation of popular maps only? Are there many populated vanilla servers with full map and game mode rotations?

On any given night I find a ton of servers that are still full. Weekends are busier.

This game is going to pass up CSGO but maybe not Dota2. The only way I can get the gold edition is if the offer it this week after launch.

Preload is up on Origin but not on Steam if there is no option to upgrade I just won't from my regular version.
I rather spend it on Paint or something.

Update: Steam is up
I'm waiting untill official release maybe they did that for server testing.
Who knows how the game will be at launch =)

I am mixed on hoping the game is insanely popular since I would love to play it and hoping it dies a quick painful death since I don't have a PC that can run it. One day I might get selected for the shuffle, but it hasn't happened yet. Random selection has never favored me and I always catch alerts too late since I can't get on easily when I am at work to try and buy.

Not sure how this works but I made a rule set. This seems to be a mode to use when you enter this code:
aaanmu

BF3 US team vs BC2 RU team. 40v40 players, weather events off. Problem is not a whole lot of weapons per team, and BC2 faction gets a lot less vehicles and attachment options. Like no jets. You'd think they would let you mix/match.

I read somewhere that with EA Play you'll get 10 hours of the pre launch game and unlock no time limit when it releases. Is this correct? If so my Steam client doesn't give me the option to preload, just says game unlocks in 7 days

On an unrelated note: downloaded BF1 and played it two days. Most toxic and immature community I've yet to encounter online. The chat is awful. I hate teens :banghead: how do they not get tired of being so nasty and disrespectful to one another

So kind of like us when we were teens?

I guess you're right. I too trolled at times and purposefully used the most obvious aimbots/wallhacks and speedhacks combos sometimes in cs 1.6 and cs source between 13 and 16. =/ it's just so tiring and gross to see when you're older though

So you trolled people but now you're offended by what they say in chat. I've seen it all on HardOCP now.

Not offended, just growing up and realizing how immature that kind of behavior was. People typically will grow out of it, but there are always exceptions.

Is there any confirmation that this game pushes the hardware harder than Battlefield 5? I'm not really seeing it in the preview videos.

One of the vids states that a 3090 is just about capable of 60fps, which given how the game looks (quite basic and bland in a lot of areas) is a bit surprising.

Talks about it starting at around 5:20.

How does a FPS game launch in 2021 without voice chat? This is so disheartening because the best BF games always involved teamwork, and I don’t think the ping system alone is going to cut it.

Because "muh toxicity" and the seemingly selective amnesia of being able to mute individual players.

its coming after nov 19. rumor is there is a patch coming dec 7th that includes features that were not ready for the initial release.

"According to the game’s community manager, Kevin “Totalfps” Johnson, in-game voice chat won’t make it into Battlefield 2042 until after the game officially launches on November 19."

AKA the game is being launched before it's properly finished, shock horror.

Portal i think without dedicated servers is gonna be a side attraction at best, it needs servers to stay relevant more than a few months.

I'm pretty sure they will have dedicated servers for portal, portal has been half the marketing for this game. also read on EA forum that servers that are popular will become permanent.

I would take that performance preview with a grain of salt. Nvidia has not released game ready drivers. I expect some performance uplift since Nvidia worked closely with Dice on this game since they added in DLSS and Ray tracing.

Speaking of drivers, any news when they plan to release the game ready drivers?

the driver that was released on oct 26th said it was game ready. and I think that video was taken after so.

I will say I like that they are sticking to slow revive time, I hated the revive spam older BF games had before BF5.
