Battlefield 2 ?

My guess is that it will be out early as well...meaning today. I will check fileplanet when I get home and it should be up. :)

you will have nothing but problems with the multiplayer.........bf1942 multiplayer still is not very good.....this will be worse......even with a great system - driving for 5 minutes only to get into a major lag fight with someone else to die, to respawn, to drive for 5 more minutes...oh the fun......

This is perfect example of a semi-literate who's read nothing about the game in question, nor seen any videos of it in action. Having done both myself, very, very often, i can honestly say you're utterly wrong.

I broke down... I was at BB today bought the pre order and it had a free headset in the box. I can't wait, first BF game for me, i have been meaning to pick one up but never got around to it.

Let me get this right - the free headset was in the *pre-order* box!!! We have a new BB opening 10 AM tomorrow- if so I'll be there!

PS. I know the headsets are cheap- I have my good ones, these are for others.

Yes, a free headset comes in the box (not a great one but it gets the job done). Make sure the headset has not been stolen out of it like my first preorder box though. There is also a coupon for $20 of BF2 Z-board keyboard. Those things are nice.

To bad the headsets hurt like holy hell, at least on my head. Voice chat always turns into a cluster fark of a swearing contest anyway so i'll pass.....

Yeah, I'm really, really, really hoping that the "13 and under" crowd sticks to CS:S. Either that or join a "lightweight" clan (since I'm past my prime :) )

In BF2 they have a chain of command VOIP.

Everyone doesn't talk/hear everyone on the team.

The squads hear only their squad, with the leader hearing the commander.

So the commander can talk to the leader, and then the leader talks to his squad, there's no huge open voip system, so you won't have everyone randomly talking.

That's good news! :D

you know what would be really cool... if you could hear like gunfire and the squad leader's squadmates yelling (what they're saying to the squad leader on the voip) and vehicle noises and stuff in the background for the commander. Basically just the background noise in the game. Maybe in a year or two...

BTW you missed the learn in my little "lern to speell!!" thing

and it was done on purpose :p

I can expect people to start playing crappy mp3s and tetris music over the radio >_>

It is already apparent in Counterstrike.

At least there's a mute button (right?)

They get kicked relatively quick. I'm really hoping that crowd doesn't migrate to BF2- one way to cut that junk out is to not tolerate it.

Voice Com is going to be VERY different than Counterstrike. First as a soldier you can only talk to your squad. In order to get in a squad you either start it and become the Squad Leader, or you get invited into one. Right there, you can limit the people on your voice channel and make sure [PLayer]N00b-o-matic never joins up and spams your air waves. As a Squad Leader you can only talk to your squad and the Commander, while the Commander can only talk to Squad Leaders. This tiered approach is really going to help fix the "OMG joo FAG, turn off joo HAX!" that we hear all the time in other games with VOIP.

I'm kind of shocked that noone has really brought up the point that this game is WinXP only, ie. no Win 2K or Win 98/ME support. One of the guys I work with pretty much loathes Windows XP, and I ain't joking! He'd pretty much rather jump off a cliff before running XP on a gaming system of his. It sounds to me like a LOT of people haven't noticed or paid attention to this system requirement and are going to be in for a VERY rude awakening when it won't install on their sub-XP machine.

Your friend is in a rude awakening then on many fronts because Win2K is pretty much preparing for its turn off the lights and no more support phase. I even heard rumors that IE7 will not be ported to Win2K.

I can't see a single reason why they wouldn't support win2k. I think the Publisher in the interview had it wrong.

I can totally see why not to support windows ME (see sig for why).

17 hrs till the demo! supposedly!

:D

Why does the MEC get the Ak-101 while the Chinese get the older model Ak-47? The MEC get like ... 54 more ak-ness in their guns! :p

Yeah, I'm not the tallest of guys, I'm on the short end thanks to my Asian blood and despite that, the headphones do hurt like bloody hell. Its odd, cause my taller, wider, friends can wear them without complaints, but after a half hour, I really feel it tugging on my ears. I thought it was my glasses, but even with my contacts in, they bloody hurt. :(

It'd be nice if the voip was a seperate app. I prefer to use one PC for games where the sound comes out the speakers, and another for VOIP on a headset. Oh well, it'd be nice if BF2 had coop too, but oh well :(

From the gamespy arcade chat:

Question: When will the demo be released?
Answer: <ea-bsmith> hmmm
<ea-bsmith> ok, well, while we're not ready to commit to tomorrow night like has been reported in a bunch of places
<ea-bsmith> we're fairly confident we'll be out some time this weekend with the demo

So no demo tonight or tomorrow like has been rumored on many websites. I know tons of people including myself were hoping for it by tomorrow but oh well.

This is the part of the thread where someone says: Well, maybe you guys can get off the computer and actually go out on friday night!

and then i punch myself in the face
