BASS headphones

Beyerdynamic DT770-Pro

They come in different versions, 250ohm, 80ohm, etc, and there are also non-pro variants. The one to go for IMO is the Pro/80Ohm.

They are better amped vs. unamped but they are very forgiving also especially if you get the 80ohm model.

I checked these out on Amazon and they look really good. The 250 Ohm version got the best reviews though. What's the difference in Ohms mean?

Well it depends what you are going to power them with really.

250ohm cans will require more power to drive than 80ohm cans. So if you have any hopes of using these with an ipod or plugging them directly into your computer in a pinch, then 80ohm will deliver much better performance.

If you are powering them from a receiver or a dedicated headphone amp it probably won't make much difference either way.

The 80ohm has more bass than the 250ohm and are easier to drive as GotNoRice has stated.

You want to take a look at Ultrasone. Pretty much their entire lineup is bass heavy. Good headphones too, if you like that kind of a frequency response curve.

Denon makes some very nice and relatively bass heavy headphones. Personally I prefer their sound signature. D2000 is a very decent head phone, D1001 too, and easy to drive from an mp3 player.

You can go here to read more and ask a ton of questions.

Note that you will find a lot of people saying x or y headphone is "bass heavy" or "has lots of bass" on head-fi; but it's important to realize that many of the people on Head-fi have a more balanced taste in sound or prefer a much "lighter" overall sound; What they say has a lot of bass you may find unsatisfying in some cases. The reason for this tends to be because an excess of uncontrolled bass can cover up details in the rest of the song that they would rather hear.

What I can tell you for sure is that the DT770 Pro/80ohm really are Bass monsters; I have yet to hear anything else that can produce a bottom end with that much conviction. That said, if you CAN go to a store and compare a demo model with others like the Ultrasones recommended above I would do so. Music stores like Guitar Center and Sam-Goody carry high end headphones. I know for sure that guitar center stocks DT770's.

Can anyone recommend some good headphones with A LOT of bass?

GotNoRice beat me to it. I had the DT770's for a week a while back and had to take em back because they had too much bass
The 80ohm is renowned for it's carsub like BASS. Granted for some types of music it sounds GOOD. and if you like your bass you'll love these bad boys!!!

I personally have the DT880's because I like a flatter more analytical sound. I'm considering getting the DT770's so that I can get my game on at night as loud as I want. The 770's are fantastic action movie and gaming cans!

So true. The DT770's are bass monsters, very comfortable to wear, and are quite isolating. Perfect for action movies and gaming :)

Beyerdynamic DT770's as already mentioned several times.

Denon D2000 for much better overall sound with 90% of the bass of the DT770's but less isolation and cost a bit more depending on where you look.

I've owned both of these on hand and compared them side by side.

another vote for the DT770 pro 80 cans. i've got them amped through a yamaha rx-v365 and they provide excellent low range frequency response for games, movies, and music.

i too was once looking for some "bassy" cans and came across multiple threads on mutliple forums suggesting that the 770 pro 80's were it. :)

Skullcandy? ICK! Their stuff is so cheap and crappy. Using Skullcandys means you care more about "style" than about sound.

Lady gaga monster beats! they beat ALL of the ones suggested for bass!

Look a graph!!!. Seriously This site it great if you want to know what the frequency responce of most headphones are.

Or what Headroom thinks the FR of their headphones is. Those Headroom graphs are notoriously inaccurate sometimes.

OP can also consider the Audiotechnica M50. Cheaper and easier to find, with a similar frequency response. Not as comfortable to wear or as sturdily built as the DT770 Pro (DT770 Pro, not DT770 2005), but with oodles of bass, and portable to boot.

Note that headroom doesn't have a graph of the Pro-80 up on their site, which is the one being suggested most in this thread. It would show a larger bass response on there.

Also, if you're going to throw IEMs in, and then base them solely off low end frequency response in graphs, there are other options than the monster "lady gaga" beats.

I like it - and a lot better than a DT770 + kludged-up POS Zalman / etc. The mic is really good.

It's probably one of the better compromises in terms of comfort, general sound quality + suitability for gaming + utility if affording it is not a big deal. If you're actually asking yourself very carefully 'is it worth it' then something like the G35 might be more appropriate.

Incidentally the G35 has a very effective shaker which kicks in when in the Dolby 7.1 mode. If your games do support it, it's a far more visceral bass than anything a regular headphone (like the MMX) can manage.

Denon d2000 in both quantity and quality wise.
The Beats are complete waste of money even @ $190.
