The 3 and 4tb HGSTs really are a work of art In terms of reliability. The used drives pulled from datacenters will probably outlast new ones, I‘m loading data today in a secondary backup rig using ones already used sometimes as much as 7 years after I bought them used already. 9 times out of 10 if I get anything spitting an error its the backplane, a cable or some software issue and not the drive itself. It seems these drives will likely last to a point of functional obsolescence (for a hard drive Inconsider that the point where an SSD reaches a suitable replacement cost or you can replace 4 or so at a comparable price to buying a new drive).
