Back to XP64 for me!

You are saying your Win 7 machine with a spinning 7200 RPM drive is at home page from a cold boot in 25 seconds?

No, the EP121 has an SSD but my backup gaming rig when it had a mechanical hard drive in it booted in around 35 seconds. Boot times are pretty irrelevant these days as rarely need to boot my systems much these days.

I would need to see video of a spinning hard drive based machine go to hompage in 35 seconds.

I feel it is relevant because I preach not to leave 600watt or 1Killowatt machines running. Shut them down. Because who cares at 40 seconds to homepage!?

Now, granted, Win 7 on a PCI-e 4x REVO hard drive might be fun to test! Soon!

I just leave all my machines running 24/7 outside of some of the laptops which only run as they are needed.

I only allow a 60 watt laptop to run 24/7 365 for print server and magicjack. (which is wired in to the main phone box so all the phone jacks are hot!)

You already called me out and pretended to know my hardware better than me, why do you feel the need to keep doing it to others?

Also on standby mode, only the RAM is left powered. Modern DDR memory consumes only a few watts, especially when idle, which it is in standby - simply storing the data already in it.

I'd be pissed if I had to wait 40 seconds every time I turn my computer on. Instead I wait 2 seconds and can put it back to sleep anytime without worrying when I'll need it next. And I don't have to worry about closing anything or saving whatever I have open, because it comes right back up.

It's silly that in 2011 I'm still trying to convince someone that shutting down their computer is irrelevant and archaic. Should just let you keep doing what you're doing :)

Proves nothing...I still say it acts slow as a snail...

that actually looks horrible IMO!!

What looks horrible? Windows Basic interface? Not enabling aero is what that desktop has, or the programs? Because whats what MATLAB looks like.......and IMO Win7 w/o aero looks leaps and bounds better than XP...

if you knew hardware as much as you seem to claim you do, then you would know that the EP121 is the Asus slate running windows 7 and it has ONLY Solid State options, so that 25 seconds is with an SSD

why the hell do you even care about 700 mb usage at idle? you have 4 gigs in your rig...

I can call out whatever I want IMO.

I say no way to 35 sec to HP on 7200R HD.

And I call Bs on your "fast" 7 machine with Slowzilla and 1GB of RAM.

Its not like I'm shooting someone man.....just callin BS from my experiences...

You should just add to your earlier post. That's what the edit button is for. You don't need to post three posts in succession to one another.

Actually from research I have done leaving machines on helps them last longer. The hardeat thing on a PC is the power surge from a cold startup. Thats when most problems start.

I leave most of my machines on 24/7 and it's always worked out pretty well for me.

True, you're just being obnoxious and showing how little you know about modern operating systems.

We'll go by my experience now - those who are first to call a person out for something they say are typically more ignorant in the subject than they let on.

Call BS all you want my friend :) You'll just quite quickly lose respect both in forums and real life.

Modern operating systems? LMAO.

I do, its even bigger it's a 2x PSU 1200W each, 4x SLI, 2x x5680s, liquid cooled running 24x7.

You clearly did not read Post #4, Dan_D is correct about the way Windows Vista+ handles memory management much more efficiently, and you can't take the task manager numbers at face value.

It is machine that runs on numbers. You can take task manager at EXACT face value! Down to the last bit.

Can we get this thread locked? Tired of it getting bumped...set aside the irony of my post.

I don't think I've ever laughed this hard on hardforum...

Shouldn't we just ignore him?

we should, but as has been posted, we are all bored....

@ OP - I leave the two rigs in my Sig on 24/7 at 100% usage.....

I have never been scolded for it in any forum...lol... so....

I will use MQ from now on.....jeesh.

Lock it if you want...who cares...stop coming to it if its not for you maybe..

Hey, what do you know? :D

I'll give you that you have a right to your opinion and no one has the right to knock you for it. Forums are no more than dicussions and opinions open to everyone.

...I see no reason to have a OS sit idle on over 700MB of RAM.
