Hey guys,

Looks like it's time for Catalyst 10.6

The Release Notes are live if you want to see what (they think) is fixed.

Got a semi-broken download page, chose a diff language out of the menu and then I got got to see the downloads.

Going to try these out with All Points Bulletin.
 
Looks like they're uploading them now or something. Their Twitter feed says, "shortly".

Here's a promising quote from their blog:

I did not experience this problem with a single monitor on my 5970.

This was not a problem but a fix for many cards including mine. Many cards are not stable at 157/300 speeds.

I just tested 10.6 and the default 2D speeds are 300/1000.

Just got done installing them and now when I boot all I get is my cursor with a black screen. Anyone know what the hell that's all about? I'm on another machine atm.

EDIT: Booted to safe mode, then restarted normally and it seems to be fixed.

The low speed only effected people running more than one monitor off a card. For only using a single monitor, 157/300 is perfect. Forcing everyone to use higher idle speeds and voltage is just being lazy. There's nothing to stop them from having the drive detect how many outputs are being used and then adjust speeds from that data. One of the advantages of 5800 cards is the low power usage, especially in idle. This just about negates it.

Loading Flash video with Flash 10.1 (official release, not beta) locked my machine up hard. I just reboot and I brought my OC back to stock and I'll see what happens.

Not promising....

Seems to be working now with stock speeds. I'll try to OC my 4890 again and see what happens.
 
Anyone know if the BC2 loading fix for 4xxx cards made it into this one? They've had it fixed since the 10.4 hotfix drivers but strangely the fix was absent from the 10.4 and 10.5 WHQL drivers. Is it even worth it to install these or should I just assume there will be another hotfix?

I have one monitor and my settings in 2D are 157/300 using the 10.6 drivers.

I haven't tested the new drivers yet, but the 10.5 gave me the issue. I was hoping they would work it out. No reason to piss off single monitor owners to please multi-monitor users, and vice-versa.

edit: Are you overclocked? If not, then the idle clocks have always been 157/300. It's only once you overclock that it ups the power and speed.

The lower speeds affected several with a 5970 with only one monitor also.
 
HDMI audio dropout is fixed with these, thank you and finally.

The release notes say it is fixed, but they don't specify which models. Is it just the 5xxx series like 10.4, or all supported models?

I just want to check if I am the only person with imagine scaling selection options are totally greyed out (Graphics, Desktop & Display, Monitor 1, Configure and Attributes)?
 
I seem to have a problem overclocking with Cat 10.6, for some reason the fan doesn't seem to spin up as high during loads. I had a GSOD while playing Clear Sky. I have my 5850 clocked at 925/1200 the temp reached 90C right before it GSOD'd.

It also seems that the Quake 3 texture corruption issue is still in the drivers... Looks like its back to 10.4 for me.:mad:
 
Has anyone used the new MSI Afterburner 1.6? if having trouble with the ATI Catalyst 10.6 Drivers
 
I came from the 10.4 drivers to these. I've had zero issues. Idle clocks are where they should be and Afterburner 1.5 working as expected.

edit/update: Having minor mouse pointer issues. I've seen this issue with pre 10.4 drivers. It doesn't really concern me, yet.

Nope, but I understand your concerns. I'm getting a 5970 tomorrow so if the 10.6 drivers don't jive, I'll go back to 10.4.

My 5870 is very stable at 157/300 speeds and I do not appreciate ATI trying to 'fix' something that wasn't broken. They don't even have the decency to allow me to manually adjust the settings.

It is unacceptable that I, a single monitor user, cannot utilize the 157/300 clock speeds now. This is really one of those things that shouldn't be that challenging to fix, so it's just blatant incompetence on ATI's part.
 
I also forgot to mention, single HD5870 157/300 idle speed here. Confirmed with MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z. Windows 7 Pro 64 / single monitor.

There's a way around this. Use Afterburner to make two profiles. One will be stock settings, and one for your overclock. You can set up a hotkey to switch between the two as long as the program is running. While the default profile is selected, you'll idle at 157/300. When you get ready to fire up a game, just switch. It's a half-assed work around, but hopefully it'll be taken care of.
 
wtf.... where are the new drivers for the eyefinity 6 users.... we are still on 10.3b......
 
These drivers are completely unusable on my PC. They crash to the desktop immediately when I launch a game. Reverting to 10.5 fixes the problem.

Sigh.

You don't even need to make a hotkey, just set them up as 2D and 3D profiles, it will switch automatically...this works for dual monitors too, where assigning the default clocks to the 2D profile will make it downclock to 400/1000.
 
All I did was turn off overdrive and I've got my 157/300 idle speed. I don't know why all you other people are having such a difficult time with it...
 
installing 10.6 screwed up my x-fi xtrememusic pci card. the device was still installed and "working properly" but it wasn't showing up in windows playback/recording.

a simple reinstall of the creative drivers has fixed it though.
 
They seem to work okay for me for games, but the ATI control panel seems to hang for about 20 seconds before letting me do anything.
