Hi! This is a general thread for discussing software created by Asus. What is your experience with Asus software? Please share any good and bad impressions and vote on the poll. Tell about issues if someone here could help.

...

Personal experiences:

Currently, I have an Asus sound card, Xonar SE, with a control panel that is visually outdated, poor in execution. I too have a concrete issue with it, which is the card resetting to be the default audio option on every boot, while I wish to use the card only rarely - I somewhat regret my purchase because of the poor software. I wouldn't need the control panel, but the driver cannot be uninstalled without it. I guess the hardware in this case is passable.
Also, their Rog Gladius II Core mouse is comfortable and has smart design on the switches below the main buttons, which are replaceable. You can open the mouse rather easily by taking some screws out, though you might have to replace the pads underneath after the process. The sensor feels also smooth to me, accurate, but alas, the software, Armoury Crate, is a bloaty thing. The inferface is confusing and it downloads much things you don't likely need. The peripheral customization options, at least for this mouse, are somewhat limited, while checking for a firmware update always gives an error.
Armoury Crate is an example of a software design with an erroneous approach, in my opinion, trying to handle a plethora of Asus peripherals in one app, which only leads to vulnerability issues if the software might get busted: once it hangs, not that it has done so for me after initial installation challenges, all your Asus devices will not be customizable anymore. I'm sure more sensible approach is possible and I doubt too many people would mind separate apps, perhaps a specific one for the Aura RGB lights if one wishes to synchronize all the lights of his devices.
I guess their BIOSes are fine and whatnot, although I haven't experienced their latest, and one positive thing with the Armoury Crate is that they offer an uninstallation tool for troubleshooting.

What got me writing was a pop-up that had me a little panicked, since it looked like an intrusive mini-game; a Reddit thread can be found here about it. I closed it as prompted by it and instantly scanned my computer for viruses, then started to browse on the net what on earth is up. Turns out it is some holiday Asus Aura feature of the Armoury Create, cheering you or whatever. I'm pretty sure the vast majority dislike something like this. Why don't they mention immediately on the appearing box that it is from them, having an Asus logo there perhaps? Why bother your customers in the first place? I'm not against humour or amusement at all naturally, but such an approach feels inconsiderate to me, which lowered my view on the company.
I sincerely hope they can hire eager and willing software designers in the future and realise a revamp of many of their quirky, ambiguously designed or outdated apps for the customers satisfaction. Even if you design appropriate, even stellar, hardware, the software may hamper the experience for the company's loss in the long run.
Cheers and good luck!
