Ask me your case modding questions, I will answer.

awww wires all over....

this case (thermaltake xaser III super tower) is really hard to hide the wires.

how would i hid the wires?

sleeving is out of the question because i dont wanna take all the pins off

i was thinking of the tubing but i have seen some bad jobs that look very bulky.

i heard people say jigsaws with a metal cutting blade... cuts thru cases like cake... i guess jigsaws are pretty good... im probably gonna buy like a $15 dollar one soon for the heck of it

btw, has anyone actually looked at the pics i posted on page 6 about my idea of using IDE cables to hold LEDs?
yeah jigsaws frikkin' eat steel. i have a $30-$40 Skil jigsaw (it's red) and some 24(i think)TPI metal cutting blades and it'll eat steel pretty good. but i still use the dremel for more detailed work. oh - i looked at your LED/IDE pics. pretty cool does it have to be a 40wire cable to work right? or do 80wire cables work too? (not that i'd cut one of those up for LED mounting, but just wondering)

i think 80wires will do fine too... you just basically gotta find the right wires for both positive and negative and snip off the extras that you dont need

floppy cables are also perfect for smaller fixtures

ok... i think i should stop hijacking this thread and leave it to Qtip42 to answer ;)

altho one thing i should add... RESIZE YOUR PICS

EDIT- bah!!!, i cant help not saying anythin  , plus Qtip42 hasnt answered it yet...
....so, uhh.... BEHIND MOBO TRAY AND CD BAY, USE CABLE TIES.... ahhh, i m out before Qtip sees me :p ...peace

lololz

listen to wayne his answers are gonna be similar to mine. .......As far as I'm concerned though, get rid of all that extra shit in there. The extra fans are useless and add clutter. Also cut the wires that you aren't using from the power supply :D

extra fans?

with my room temp i cant take the chance. my computer runs 90.3 idle and 104.7 gaming. i dont want to take my temps past 108.5. the wires for the fans i can hide behind the fan tray i have already don that. i will try to hide the wires tomorrow behind the mobo tray

is it overclocked?

if so, maybe you pushed it too much or need a better heatsink or something

if not, maybe its cus of the wires blocking airflow

ahh, enough said, i m leavin it to Qtip ;)

Judging by his sig I don't think it's OCed. I bet he lives in a hot climate though, maybe time to get familiar with water cooling perhaps? :)
I know that either I have to have my box fan on this summer (in CO) or I'm going to have to go that route to save my little CPU from heat (MB says 50c @ idle right now but it's not hot yet) but it could partly be do to blocked airflow. Mod your case little and add larger fans and clean up the wiring too.

has no one seen my IDE led thing on page 6?????????

aggghhh, went thru all that pic taking, open, save as jpegs, then uploading

durrff

I've been alittle busy (and now I'm reading some Naruto manga) so I just breezed through it, nice though and very helpful I have to order something like 40 LEDs so it will be very handy soon. :)

Do I have to many fans as I am trying to clean up my case?
Two exhaust, one front intake and a side intake. Should I remove one?

I do have another question (hopefully it won't be so odd like last time :D)
I have an Antec Lanboy case and I'm pretty tired of it now so I decided to mod it and improve it (atleast make it a good case lol). So I need to find a new drive bay for the mod that I have in mind (don't say "make your own" I don't have the tools for that yet) the only thing that matches what I want is this but $30 is alittle expensive for me. I could have swore that I saw a few for less but I can't find any. Anyone know where I can get a drive bay that will hold 5 drives similar to that one?

I have only one exhaust fan right now, a 92mm Enermax, that can pull in enough air and is still pretty quite but now I'm going to move my PSU to the front of my case and attach it acting as an intake.

Yes I know that it will be dumping hot air into the system but I'm going to be adding one or two 120mm on the bottom acting as intakes so I think it evens out. :)

what kind of bay?.... if your looking for harddrive bay, i have a pretty good idea for it... i thought of this a while ago but i m sure there probably is a review somewhere, i ll look for it later

take those PCI slot covers for cards with the holes in it and take four on the side and screw the harddrives to the side so it stands up as legs... with the bent part of the pci plate, use that as a stand to screw it to the bottom of your case... i m a lil confusing, i ll expand more on this later.... i ll look for a guide now

Yeah I think I saw that over at Metku (sp) but I'm looking for CD drive bays that can hold 5 drives. I swear that I saw one somewhere cheaper then $30. I would like to just get a case and take it apart but I can't seem to find very many cheap cases that have 5 drive bays.

Looks cleaner, how are your temps?
during the day they are 87.3 and idle during the day there 74.6 at night they are 79.8 and idle they are 67.4 :)

that also because my room temp has been a lot cooler because i have 2 room fans moving the air around

What kind of paint would you use to paint the inside of the computer, i.e harddrive cages, etc. And do I have to prime and all that stuff before doing so? I would like to start painting tonight :D

The same paint you'd use on the outside of the case. Just dont paint the areas where the drives slide in and out.......it's a rookie mistake. Just paint the outsides of the cages.

Are Rounded IDE Cables worth buying? I've heard of some complaints and I use standard ribbon cables. About my fans, they are 80mm fans.

What paint is that? I never paintd the outside of the case, I like it Metallic Gray.

would 1-2 layers of paint make that much of a difference?... wait, you said that so he wouldnt have a hard time sliding the drives out right?... or i m probably wrong

yes they are much better airflow. looks a lot nicer.

on my other case i used car paint. you can find it in most auto stores. its much better because it doesnt drip and bubble. if you get somthing on it it is very easiy to clean. also you can use any kind of wax instead of only certain waxes. the paint will not fade or diteriorate.

Read the first pages of the thread, we talk about spraypainting cases.

1-2 layers would scratch off. Ya the drives would have a hard time moving in and out. If it's scratched, it looks bad so might as well not do it at all.

on the inside of my old case i did 4 coats of paint (2 cans) and it didnt scratch off.

Have you owned every case ever built? Not all cases are the same. So it may or may not happen. Better to be safe than sorry

Yes. Half assing it only gets you moderate results.
First time always teaches you this. I painted a keyboard along time ago without properly priming it and it turned out terrible, I learned my lesson then. :)

Oh wayne, yeah that was the link but I think I'll try and find something...less ghetto. :) lol
Maybe I'll just get the one that I linked to earlier or try building it myself. I would have done that in the first place but I'm not too sure about my skill level (and lack or tools) for building a drive cage but who knows unless you try? :)

On a side note I just removed my PSU from the standard local and placed it in the front under my HD rack and I see that my temps have dropped by 5C from 50 to 45 at idle. I'm going to be watching it all day to see what kind of temps I'll get and then decide whether or not to keep it there. The only thing I'm worried about is that the PSU is blowing on my two Hauppauge 250MCE cards.
