Ask me your case modding questions, I will answer.

HI i have an Antec super lanboy case and as you all probably know it has shitty air flow so i was thinking of adding a fan on the window but i dont know how to. help?

Dual color leds work by having one color in each direction. One polarity its one color, other polarity, other color. If it's ac it will either blink or be both colors depending on the frequency of the AC signal.

Very innnnnnteresting.........I have no idea though. I'm thinking it has a single LED doing both blue and red. I'm not sure how they change like that but it might have something to do with voltage level. Maybe when nothing is plugged in, there's only a little power going to it and then when something is plugged in there's more power flowing.

Your guess is as good as mine.

if it exists, where can i buy one? :D

Any tips or sites you can recommend for detail cutting on side-doors? I want to cut out my own window but I want something custom and not just a regular window.

Since you were kind enough to offer your services Qtip45 here is something for you.

Where can I find the specifications for the following:
  • PCI cover plates.
  • The rear panel for mobo trays.
  • Front / hole layout for 5.25" devices.
I know it can be masured from any case / CDROM but that is not the answer I'm looking for.

readthefaq.jpg

ATX case specifications (for building custom cases)
dimensions specified for ATX, FlexATX, MicroATX, NLX and SFX.

jeeze with these newbies not reading the faq  ;) :D

i love you have my babies plz

I am getting ready to paint my project computer, and I was thinking metallic blue front and flames with a black case behind the flames... What would be the best way to do that and still have a mirror finish?

The window is probably made of 1/8" acrylic or so I'm guessing. Use that blue painter's tape and tape over the window so it doesn't get scratched (after you remove it). Print out a hole the correct size of the fan you want to use (80mm = 3 inches) ..Use a hole saw, dremel, router, or jigsaw to make a hole. I'd suggest using a holesaw for the best cut. Also apply lubrication to the holesaw itself so it makes a smoother cut. Very simple mod. If you need someone to hold your hand, google "blow holes" and you'll find tons of how-to's.

how dare you .....it's 42!!! :p

I believe someone on bit-tech used sketchup to make models of those parts. Each model had measurements.....i thought I bookmarked it a while back but I can't find it now. It's not like you are a modding nub :D go measure ya wussy keke

I dont have any sites off hand but the concept of cutting a design is simple. Pick up a pencil draw the picture you want or print it out in sections if it's bigger than a piece of paper. Then trace it. Then cut using your tool of choice. Dremels typically can do more detail or you can have someone laser/waterjet cut it if you have money and want perfection. To attach a window, use rivets or screws.

Where should I buy a nice panaflo fan? Heard they were good.

Panaflo's are good fans but if you have to pay an arm and a leg for them, it's not worth it. The only place I purchase from online is Newegg and if they dont carry it, I go to fry's locally. Brand's haven't mattered much to me..........I know this isn't what you're looking for but Newegg has a basic sleeve bearing fan for sale: 10 for $9.90 w/ free shipping... which is an awesome deal even though the fans are mediocre. As far as Panaflo's go, I haven't the slightest idea to be honest with ya.

edit: omg omg http://www.nexfan.com/ ........decent deals if you buy a bunch (flat shipping rate of $7)

Wait.
Mashie, (a true modding god) is asking Qtip (a slightly talented know-it-all wannabe) a case modding question??? And then Flecom, a typically fair and knowledgeable guy deserving of his moderator job rails on him for not reading the FAQ? Am I in the twilight zone?

.......wait....what am I? chopped liver? ...........I dont know everything....I just got tired of the simple modding questions everyone's been asking. :D :p I got talent I swear............Look what i can do *jumps and flails*

Sorry Qtip
Perhaps I was a little harsh. You have some very original designs and demonstrated some excellent skills bringing them to the real world.
This thread title seems to say “ I know it all, just ask me”.

np .....disclaimer everyone: I dont know it all....I just give advice from experience.

go slowly if its plastic (acrylic and plexi IS kinda plastic)... go slow or you'll end up melting plastic and making it cool into blobs on the side

ive heard of some people using hole saws backwards first to sorta grind it a lil to make a track then turn it back to the right directional and finish it to protect the acrylic from cracking easily

IMHO, Mashie, Qtip42, and Flecom are like the best modders in this forum... ive seen amazing works by them and i cant wait for their next projects... good job guys :D

Ok, im buying this case : Lian-Li PC-65B and i want to do this with el wire : El Wire . Can i do it still even though there is a window already attached. and i dont plan on useing the clear siding, im just going to super glue it around the window so it looks clearer, so disregard the siding part. Im just curious because of the little part they say to nibble out.

- Jackal -

Don't superglue anything to acrylic or plexi or whatever your window is. It leaves a nasty mark and is not 100% optical. I'm not sure if acrylic cement would work but you could try that or use a glue gun and mark it on the outer side so you dont see it. If you screw up with a glue gun, it comes off easy once it's dry.

Yeah i figured i would just do a double sided tape for a while to see if i like it then move from there. but will it work on this case being that there is a pre-installed window?

www.svc.com

They have very good prices and are reliable. I generally only buy fans, HSFs, PSUs, cables and lights from them because their other prices aren't the best. NewEgg is still the boss when it comes to components.

I assume, since you didn't specify, that you are looking for 80mm Panaflows. SVC has them from $3.75-$6.99 a piece right here: http://www.svc.com/standardfans.html
They also carry 92s and 120s.

http://www.bgmicro.com/

They have Panaflo FBA08A12L (quiet fan) 80mm fans for $3.19 each, $2.65 if you're getting 10+; I forget what shipping would be, I seem to remember it wasn't too bad though.

Granted, they have 2-pin connectors, but the tabs on them are simple enough to sand/trim/cut so that they'll fit onto a 3-pin connector. (motherboard or 4-pin molex connector)

No idea where to go for a decent deal if you're looking for a larger/faster panaflo though.

Ya you just have to get creative if it wont stay in place. :D

So I've cut my fair share of holes with my 3" (don't laugh) hole saw but I just noticed in one of these here forums that somebody mentioned squirting a little bit of lube on it. I know its supposed to help or something but what kind of lube are we talking about here? I was thinking that I prolly shouldn't use that KY Warm Sensations sample we got in the mail the other day. Should I just spray some WD-40 on it? Wesson? Thanks. :p

KY = if you want a mess
WD40 = if you want to breathe the nasty ass fumes and get high
Stick Lubricant = if you want to do it right and not have a mess. Costs $3 at homedepot or some hardware store.

You can buy a heat gun at most hardware stores, or Lowe's, Home Despot, etc. Most people use them to strip paint off wood so that would be the section to start looking prolly. Be careful, you can melt your sleeving, and your fingers, if you're not careful. ;)

Harbor Freight has heat guns for $15 and they're better than anything else you'll find. www.harborfreight.com

And about the stick lub..........get the hole saw spinning and then put the stick in the teeth....dont worry it wont kill you or anything.

Kewl, I actually got a project I'm doing for a friend while he's in Florida on business. It's going to be like TLC's "While You Were Out" but with his computer and without cameras. He has this gawd-awful AOpen case with dick for airflow, gonna mod a 120mm into the front for intake, side 80mm intake blow hole and top 80mm exhaust blow hole. Gonna run down to Ace in the morning and see if that lube helps me get ma groove on. Thanks again for the info. :D

Anyone know where I can buy a windowed side panel for my Ahanix Noblesse Mirror (Black)? I have checked ebay and googled but to no avail. I found a lian li side panel on ebay but the measurements were off.
