ARMA II - Dayz Mod

what a epic night! i played till freaking 1am!!

Here is what happened. i respawned all the way in cherno and made my way north and met up with manble along the way and we teamed up together and followed the power lines going north east towards the damn where the helicopter is.

we avoided most towns along the way and came across a couple of zombies. one i aggroed that split us up briefly. i took the zombie down and met up with manble again who waited for me but could have left me(cheers).

We managed to end up where the helicopter is which took us an hour or two to reach their!

we waited for Marker to join us there and he came with a couple of other guys in a jeep!

manble had the final missing piece to fix the helicopter so hefixed it and we was off!! but it had low fuel so we all decided to take the jeep and go to the airfield nearby and get some fuel.

We reached their and took as much as we can and came back to the helicopter to refuel.

after that we went flyed back to the airfield with he heli as it was still not much fuel so we went their and refueled the heli as much as we can.

LOADS of zombies just popped up near us and we moawed them down! all of us with rifles so it was cool :)

after refueling we flies around the major cities of the map and basically killed everything that moved around the big cities with the machine guns attached to the helicopter lol.

Was the best night i have had on DayZ. soo good i was up till 1am when i normally goo to bed at 11 during the weekdays! was well worth it!

Wow, foggy day or low view distance? Looks like fun though, I'd love to find a vehicle one of these days!

Catsun, deer stands are normally on the edge of woods overlooking clearings. Check dayzmod.info for info.

foggy mate. was raining and had a mini thunder storm while i was walking along the power lines

I asked this in the other thread , but had no answers. I played some arma2 , and found the controls pretty well... unintuitive. Are they the same in the dayz mod?

I wouldn't say they are unintuitive, since the basic control scheme is the same as any other FPS. There are a lot more keyboard shortcuts you can setup though for the large number of commands. The basic controls tend to feel a little on the clunky side, but it's mainly due to the fact that they are trying to simulate the fact that you can't run around and snap 180' like in CoD when you're carrying 100 lbs. of gear. So if that's what you're talking about, then yeah. You get used to it very fast though IMHO.

Yeah , maybe i missed some stuff out. I need to retry the arma 2 free to see whats up. Also i had problem with the mouse accuracy. So the gamelay felt clumsy.

do you guys got any performance suggestions? i recently picked arma2 up for this mod. can get choppy/slow down sometimes.

my system is a laptop. it runs every other game fairly well but this one gets slow.
amd a8 3500 @ 2.
win 7 64bit
8gb ram
6750m overclocked

I'm sorry but this straight up doesn't work, arma 2 feels more like you are playing a mech simulator then you are controlling a person. Which as we know it's very intuitive to control our own body, so using a proper control scheme is a necessity for this realism factor. Negative mouse acceleration and variable Y axis sensitivity only reinforces this mech like control scheme.

You are making a exaggerating quite a bit. I have played every fps since Wolfenstein and every mech game there is. True, its not a twitch based fps. You can't jump in the air and do a 180 and pop someone. It does a very good job of simulating real mechanics while keeping it fun.

The problem is you don't stop someone from being able to do it you just make it so that during fast turning and/or when jumping your accuracy is drastically reduced. This accomplishes the same gameplay mechanics while avoiding clunky control, and this same approach can work in other scenarios to avoid unrealistic behavior.

Then again I use a mouse because I prefer the tight control it provides and I prefer my games to not handicap my input device.
