Looks awesome. Am interested in hearing more about the gameplay.

If it takes me three steps to do something simple and mundane like picking up a box of ammo, for example. ;)

can't wait, i hope they optimize the PhysX for CPU and not cripple it just to make theGPU physx look good- either way this is a day 1 for me :)

They don't use PhysX... just like the old one...
I don't think there is any game that comes out this year that supports physX...

According to the official announcement it will use it

I mean its better than nothing, but i really wish they would have gone with Havok or just something else..

Wish they would go back to more of the grunt feel of Operation Flashpoint and not stick with the small 4 man special forces kinda deal. Much as I liked Arma1/2, they still don't hold up to the original Flashpoint.

Hopefully the AI will be much improved. Could not stand playing Arma2 because of the horrid AI.

Again with the boxes lol you don't give up.

It's true. ;)

If people are hyping this up to "innovate" then I think my little gameplay quibbles, of which that is an all too easy of an example, are things that can easily be addressed and frankly should be. :)

If they do, my money is on the table very easily. Just because something is shooting more for being a "sim" or "realistic" doesn't mean it has to be a cumbersome pain in the ass. A game can still be "fun" while meeting that other criteria.

So we'll see what we see here. I'm watching with rapt interest. :) It won't take much for me to jump on the bandwagon. ;)

Along with that my biggest qualm was the horrible AI. I literally played Arma 2 for maybe 2hours. Was playing through the single player and it was going alright and when we had to load up in a helicopter I had an impossible time getting the entire team in the helicopter, they kept getting stuck around the edges of the copter. That and the AI had a hard time driving through towns on its own.

No hate here though, ARMA 2 was a great attempt I just hope they improve the AI a bit.

odd cause they never had issues in the other games, or at least I never had issues with AI doing retard things like this.

CPUs are inherently very bad for physics, so it will cripple your game performance either way, but at least if it's optimized for GPU we'll get half decent physics simulation if you have a dedicated physx card

Not sure how you never noticed things like that. Its pretty common. AI was horrible at driving/flying. It was always a game of chance if you would get there in one piece.

ARMA 2 is/was a great game but for me I could not stand single player because of how much I had to handhold the AI. Missions easily got broken and it was just a PITA. Helicopter extractions were 50/50 because sometimes the AI just wanted to blow up.

I imagine that AI driving is similiar to what future AI driven cars in the real world will be like...

one just cluster fuck of a traffic jam as they go forward and backward forward and backward forward and backward until they run out of gas and everyone reverts to walking or riding bikes....

Aye, I really think this time round BIS should strive to make create an easier interaction menu for ARMA 3. I can deal with the one in ARMA 2 fine enough but I know from previous threads that many others find it to be too fiddly and ultimately off putting ;). If they get the interfaces right they'd pull in a few more customers to what has been a cracking series in my opinion. :)

From the screenshots and teasers that i've watched, i'm always a bit wary of seeing more futuristic weaponary and special forces - I prefer larger, more conventional forces to play with. Ultimately I think ARMA3 will be pretty enjoyable but i'll expect there to be a few bugs to be sorted when it's first released. It's the FPS/Sim that i'm most looking forward to in the next few years.

physX is still single threaded and always will be (thanks a lot useless ass Nvidia) so don't expect it to be optimized at all for cpu acceleration.

Man these 15GB games are killing my attempt to keep all my games on SSDs. :(

You should check out that steam tool. It uses junctions to point your /common/ folder to your desired location. You can keep all your games installed but only the things you are actively playing will be on your SSD, you can store the rest on a storage drive and move them back as needed. :p

Sweet tool. You can also do it manually using junctions in Windows. I have ArmA2 going on my SSD via Steam while the rest of the games are on another drive.

I've been using this. Absolutely fantastic tool, and great for use with SSDs.

As for Arma 3, if they can make it a bit more accessiable without dumbing down the game then I will be all over it. As mentioned, improvements in the interface and how players interact with the game will go a long way.

Video is from June but never posted AFAIK. 7 minutes of random gameplay. Shows off ragdoll physics, removable gunsights (finally!!), and underwater stuff.

This is why I could never get into it. I would literally go into a gamers rage at times because of the stupidity of the AI.

O M G...How could I have missed this. This is a great tool will be giving it a whirl here.

Alice: Madness Returns uses it extensively for particle effects, IIRC.

Great looking, but will it be a great game? Arma 2 in my opinion aside from looking pretty was fairly average as a game.
