Arma 2 being one of my favorite games of all time, all I want is improved netcode and proper throttle support.

Hope the gameplay gets streamlined (not dumbed down!)...but where it doesn't take me three steps to do something mundane like picking up a box of ammo, and I'll be interested.

Oh please with this developer really. I mean get the engine and game running smooth first then talk about a new game. A new game that will chug on the best of hardware, look pretty good ya, but not all that. Will run and feel chunky anf funky and take months and months to iron out all the bugs. Ya can't wait. Oh and yes overly complicate things all in the name of SIM. Please wake me when they make a game that is actually fun. I like the idea of a more sim like military game but believe me being in the real army isn't as hard as arma heh.

Agreed 100 percent.

What's funny is people love to hate on OFP DR and break CM's balls about what a pos it is and whatever else but I tell you this. The game looks pretty good and runs amazing. I had some fun with that game in co op and a bit of MP when it first came out. Could have been so much more and it was hardly perfect but I had more fun with that than arma 2. Which I also bought in july of 2009 was it? When it came out. haven't played it probably since the fall of that year. waste of 50 bucks, still annoys me.

ARMA 2 has always been the pinnacle of FPS games for me and i'm very excited about ARMA 3. Once you get the hang of it ARMA 2 isn't too complicated at all but it does take a bit of patience to get used to it. It is well worth it though and there is loads of fun to be had.

For me single-player can be a bit clunky and I hope BIS improves upon that aspect. Streamlining some of the command interface would be a good move because it can be quite awkward trying to order a soldier from A to B. Multiplayer stomps over any other FPS however and I don't see the fun in playing Battlefield,CoD or any other FPS when i'm presented with the variety that ARMA 2 has to offer to the PC gamer.

I imagine there will be bugs and a lot of things to iron out in ARMA 3 but it's the nature of the beast when a complex game is released by a smallish European developer. I find that quite a few of the games in my collection are buggy upon release (Like HoI 3 and the Stalker series) but to me that is indicative of the developer pushing gameplay boundaries. I respect this as long as they support their product and take on board suggestions from the community which is what developers like BIS, Paradox and a few others do.

I don't what to buy a game from developers who won't provide innovation, gameplay, longevity and extensive modding support because they're afraid it won't appeal to a wider audience or the casual gamer. ARMA 3 might not be for everyone but it is for me and I can't wait till it's released! :)

Taking three steps to pick up a box of ammo isn't fun or innovative IMO.

I'll definitely keep an eye on this, nice to have another game that takes advantage of modern hardware/OSes.

I especially miss that lovely robotic voice from arma2, was very heart warming and inviting. The game is needlessly complicated. It doesn't have to be nor should it be. I played quite a bit of it the first couple of months it was out but I got turned off by alot of things and just moved away from it. Honestly games developed by russians and small east Euro devs I just don't like. It's not a dig or an insult they just do not appeal to me. They all have the same feel. Arma and the stalker series come to mind. Both games feel alot alike in terms of their overall polish, which is to say there is none heh. They feel amateurish and unfinished. I apprecaite the fact they are trying to be die hard pc devs, great, but not at the expense of a real game with a real polished engine. Sorry not my cup of tea.

Edit: Don't even get me started on how it runs. Ya takes advantage of current hardware, ok that's one way to describe it I suppose. Another is a poor poor use of today's hardware and a badly unoptimized coded engine is another. Ya I know how massive and real the environment looks, uh huh. What good is that if the game runs like shit? No, not fps. The fps would be fine and it still just has a clunky feel to the engine and you feel it as you turn to do a fast 180 or 360. It's called, it just doesn't feel smooth. What code masters did with the same engine for dragon rising ( yes I know DR doesn't look as good as arma 2) was light years better. Since it doesn't look as good but not that much worse either and yet runs and feels about 100000 times better. Play both games and tell me which has acceptable visuals/performance and which you would rather play in terms of feel and performance. Talk about gameplay all you want, that's opinion. Performance and feel of the engine is not. CM did a much better job in that department, period.

Edit2: Just rememberd CM didn't use the same engine as Bohemia did for arma2, my bad, They used the evo engine they have been using for just about everything the last few years lol. That said I found the game to look pretty good and run even better. Definetly rather have the DR engine used for arma imo.

The great thing about arma is they do what every they want, since hardly any one plays arma they don't have to cater to the masses. They can make it as hardcore as they want.

Arma has always had its share bugs, crappy animations, and terrible sound but thats the way it has always been so you just learn to love it with its flaws or you go play another better game like arma. OH wait there aren't any.

All I want to see In arma 3 is some decent sounds, actual physics on vehicles, some decent animations and hopefully some destructible environment.

Edit: You cant compare dr to arma 2, thats like comparing bf2 pr to bc2. dr is all run gun unrealistic action, sure its way smoother but its just so much simpler than arma 2.

funniest internet post of year. Like QBZ said, some mundane tasks in Arma are made so convuluted and annoying that it becomes a task in pain to do the most basic things before actually playing the game.

Hard does not equal realistic. While i love the ARMAs while actually engaged, there are far too many minor annoyances to keep me from it ever being a top FPS. Making simple things hard to do does not equal an awesome sim game.

DirectX 10, huh? Curious.

Game does look good, though. Hopefully Bohemia's willing to improve some of the mechanics so the game doesn't feel so...annoying.

Aye, you mentioned that already in your first post but I respect that your opinion will differ and I don't doubt that you don't find it fun. There are bugs and some aspects can be over complex and I won't deny this

What I find fun is the sheer scale of Arma 2, the massive variety of weapons and vehicles to be used, the team work required to achieve objectives and the realistic approach taken to warfare (Not 100% realistic of course). I find the singleplayer campaigns to be complex and challenging which is what I find fun. I enjoy the freedom in multiplayer where the teams can launch a variety of attacks. If you want to launch a company sized armoured infantry attack with supporting MBTs you can do that. If you want to gear up, organize your team mates onto a hercules and parachute onto your objective, you can do that. If you want to go stealthy and have A10 or harrier support on standby you can do that. If you want to saturate the objective with rocket artillery or howitzers you can do that too. If you don't like being in the frontlines you can organize supply dumps and concentrate on logistics.

When I first played ARMA2 I gave up on it at first after playing a bit of single player because I couldn't get over the initial steep learning curve. I went back to it however and realised that for all it's wee bugs and complexity, it has so much to offer. This is my opinion but I know that not everyone on [H] forum shares this but i'm just glad that there a large number of people playing the game who do.

Games are supposed to be fun. Remember that. Now, if you wanna argue well fun for some is in the hardcore SIM aspect of a game ok sure you can do that but realize your in the minority. I like a more realistic combat military game, I really do, but not at the expense of everything else and also having a buggy unoptimized pos engine to do it. Nope, sorry. Again when a "game" becomes more work than fun, I put it down and play something else. I already have a job don't need another when I sit down to enjoy myself and game on my pc. My opinion of course, yours may differ. Ever think about why there's no other games like arma? One reason is most devs actually wanna sell alot of copies and make money. Second reason is the audience isn't big enough to bother. So yes you are left with a half baked game like arma. If that makes you happy ok I respect that, enjoy.

While I own Arma 2, it hasn't received much attention from me yet. Probably less than five hours of total playtime. I have to disagree with your stance on the Euro devs when it comes to games though. I don't know what your idea of a "real game" with a "real polished engine" is, but when it comes to many of the recent offerings of games developed in the States, there's only so much shine, polish and air freshener to make the crap in the box that it is, look and smell fresh. It wears off quickly too.

The Men of War series, X3 Series, and the Stalker Series are far more fun and interesting to play than the rehashed console crap that I've seen time and time again over here.

I agree with the crap in a box from alot of western devs dude, trust me. I've had enough of the bullshit COD series for a lifetime, believe me heh. That said I don't run to unfinished, buggy, unpolished games just because I'm tired of the other side. Like I said those types of games just do not appeal to me. I need a real AAA title with a polished engine and with real gameplay to appeal to me. If I don't see that I generally don't buy it or play it. A great example is OFP DR. Yes destroy the game if you wish but it looks pretty good and runs amazing. CM is a mainstream dev and knows how to code and knows where to make use of hardware and OPTIMIZE for the best results. Not just take the brute force approach to coding. I would much rather play a fun game with the look and feel of CM's engine than Bohemia's. I won't play Arma just because zomg look at that draw distance or those textures on that shack. I appreciate what they are trying to do with the scope of the game in arma but not at the expense of everything else. Sorry but I expect both polish and looks to go with gameplay.

Yes Its just a matter of opinion I love arma and am willing to forgive its annoying bugs, many are not. Arma is a game you either love or hate, half my friends love it, half detest it. Arma can be a lot of work but I find that fun, Im willing to run a few miles and lay on a hill for a few hours monitoring troop movements and calling in an occasional JDAM, but thats just me.

I could be wrong but doesn't bohemia use the arma engine to make a training sim for different militaries? So they dont actually need the money they get from retail sales. which is why they make it for the minority of hardcore sim fans.

I believe your right. They do make real military training sims. Not sure for who though.

You are correct. Bohemia has a military division that sells their full blown VBS (Arma's big brother) product series to militaries across the globe. There was a post on the Steam forums from Dwarden about all the various branches they have that bring in money.

I will wait to reserve judgment on Arma 3 until I see the physics and animations in action.

EDIT: Found it. Someone complaining about BI being broke and Dwarden's repsonse. One thing that post reminded me of is that they are doing Carrier Command. That is another title I am eager to see.

Believe me: I WANTED to sink into that thing like no one's business. I recognize it for the high quality product that it is but some of the gameplay quirks just killed it for me. :(

Graphics look like a big improvement over ArmA2. Never bit the bullet on ArmA2 because of the bugs on release and small online community, but hopefully this sequel will improve upon those issues.

Am always predisposed to supporting PC focused developers, especially dev's like Bohemia who provide phenomenal after sales support for their products. Fingers crossed!

i really wish they would have chosen something else besides PhysX, Havok would be nice..

They keep releasing a new Arma with better graphics and new features every couple of years but they keep forgetting to polish it.

Realize that ARMA is a game for the minority, and stop complaining.

Hopefully the will use NEW ANIMATION, because this sucks in all their games.
