Argh..... folding woes...

So, I have two linux boxen (a total of 1.3 Ghz) for dedicated folding. I set them to run and then never even look at them. I decide to take a gander today and found out that because I turned the monitor off, the pc went into standby mode or something and stopped folding.... for almost a month!

And this with the Race on! Argh..... so today I got them going again and have to leave the monitor on (although it still works okay if the monitor goes into standby - it keeps folding).

Long story short.... might want to check up on those boxen every now and again.

Sorry to hear that, strange that you have to have the monitor plugged in though. Glad to hear you got them back up though!

yeah, I just got my KVM switch today, so now I can keep tabs on both of them... plus I have another 2.2 GHz coming up this next week once I get the heatspreader for my A64!!

WOOHOO! Keep on folding!

Heatspreader... make that sucker fold naked!

yes so when it burns up, you will not be able to race me. I am in the middle of the pack.

Use something along the lines of EMIII on your main computer to monitor the folding boxes.

I suppose I could do it. I do use EMIII, but the two linux boxen are on a different switch, same network.

and I honestly don't know enough about linux in order to do it.
But it's all good now. Got my KVM switch, and once I get that heatspreader, I'll probably be setting the three up with fold server, so it's all good.

You might consider PM'ing unhappy_mage, he'd probably be able to help you get samba up and running on those no problem. Then you'd be able to get them talkin to EM3 without a problem.

Anti-fold, anyone? It's a dead easy setup, it comes with capability for EM3, and it's MINE. How much better can you get? :D

But fold-server is good, too :D

heatspreader

Please change the word to heatsink. That way people know what exactly you are talking about. I don't know of anyone that gets heatspreaders for their A64. Most come with them to begin with and some people want to take them off.

Now, a heatsink is necesary and I'm assuming is what you are actually speaking of.

True dat. I'll watch it in the future.

Apropos, the heatsink came, so I just added 2.2 Ghz of folding power, and 2.7 total today!

Heh... I was going to tell you to add it to the Ghz thread, but it doesnt appear as though one is active right now. Also, what chip is it? Going to venture into OCing? Every mhz counts.

Sounds like something mary would do...

Just for kicks, I was OC'ing a AMD K6-2 400 something. Hard jumper voltage/multi ect.

The Core voltage was 2.2 or what ever, and the I/O was 3.3.

So, I'm like well 3.5 don't sound like too much...... insert part one from mages quote in sig

Hey Mage you should put a quick doc together on the anti-fold I know its only the four lines you have to enter but it easier than trying to piece it together from the forum here.
Unless you like having to hand feed all the linux nOObs....like me! ;)

The heatsink was for a Winnie 3500+ that has been sitting around since I upgraded to an X2.

I'm not big on overclocking... I'd probably blow something up.

YESSS ! Anti-fold (foldux ?) :) has my vote for dedicated boxen. Currently running it with 2 clients each on 3 P4 boxes. Easy to monitor with EMIII. Thanks Mage !

I also have a crapper running it and haven't had a problem yet and it's been over a week since it was installed.

So I take it the world has lost a k6-2, and gained a keychain? :p I have a p2 on my keyring, with a hole nicely drilled through the cache.

Docs for anti-fold, huh? Well, I'll work on it; I want to get back to college and its *real* internet connection (this'll be on Mon) and do it for myself so I can write down the steps. It's been a while since I wrote all the scripts, it might take me a while...

There may not be a GHz thread, but there is the "D to 1000 boxen...." thread.

drdeutsch, glad to hear you got the parts you were waiting on!
