Well, I will drop my 2 cents on the combat system I guess.

Rating: A-
You really feel involved with it. It makes it more interesting and makes you feel as if though you have more control over your character. I find it a tad weird using it with ranged weapons however.

pretty sure the trees/grass are not suppose to be like that. I read somewhere that 2D sprites were going to be offered as an option for those that don't have high end systems and said that they could be turned on/off. maybe it's a bug.

So is this game a flop or what? Is it good for a release? I'm on the fence with this one right now.

I'm enjoying it so far. I've played it since about 3PM today with only a half hour break. I don't typically like MMO games so that should tell you something. It's the most engagin and enthralling MMO ever created in my opinion.

In any case the game is pretty good so far. I haven't had very many problems with it but it is a bit of a system killer. I had to tone it down just a bit at 2560x1600 but I am using DX10 and SM 3.0.

I love this game

Better then WoW imo

I think so too. I couldn't stand more than about an hour of World of Warcraft. I did play quite a bit of Guild Wars but gave it up at Level 15 because I got bored with it. Age of Conan I've played non-stop since I got it installed. I'm only off of it now because I'm installing updates and then going to bed.

Guess I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning, lets hope my local best buy has it in stock :p

Game isn't a flop, but if you have played alot of MMO's before, you will see how much is really missing in the game.

Chat system blows, friends system sucks too, guild system is OMG bad. You can't inspect others, there is no armor wear, that's just to start.

There are alot of assholes on PVP servers right now, they like to camp.

There is this place called White Tide, little island you complete quests on once you reach 8. Anyway, there must be 10 + lvl 20's camping the spawns and the entrance and ganking lowbites like there is no tomorrow. If you get away from them, well you will get ganked by some lvl 15's or lower, in a group. I ran and fought my way through most of the island to get to the place where I needed to get some stuff; just to get owned by 2x lvl 15 hunters :(. Guess what? There is only one respawn point and it's all the way back in the beginning of the island.

Besides that, respawn times on everything is horrific, less than a minute on every mob :(. If you were to stop to chat, or to rest up and gain some health, well, enemies will respawn right in front of you. There are situations when you are running to a certain place and things respawn because somebody killed them 1 minute ago and you had no idea :(.

That being said, game has potential, but it's a far cry from being a good MMO to me.

If you like MMO's I don't see how you can't like this game. Just did Sanctum of Burning Souls great first 5 man group experience. For WoW reference think back to first time you went to SM or Gnomeregan and how awesome experiencing it for the first time was. Group was really mature and competent and had 2x the IQ of a pug WoW group lol. Maybe I got lucky. Having a blast playing this game. If you solo alot or can't get a group to grief the griefers back stay far away from a pvp server. Not sure why so people don't forsee getting ganked constantly on a pvp server and yet choose to roll on one.../boggle

The first points: Hell yes, they need serious work.

Who wants Armor wear? Thats just frustrating!

It's called white sands isle, actually. And I've never found the quests there worth doing, in fact, I do a total of 4 daytime quests before level 14, then I do all the acheronian ruins quests (non pvp zone) till 18-19 then I do the last of the destiny quests. Takes me about 6 hours /played to hit 20. (assuming a normal amount of distractions and chatting).

I find the respawn far too slow in most places, especially boss mobs for quests so *shrug*.

I find it to be a good MMO, with a lot of potential, if they can tap into it remains to be seen, but its certainly the smoothest MMO launch I've ever seen (been part of 8 of them now).

There isn't even an LFG system :(

Yes there is.....social options thingie at the top left.

As far as the combat system goes, it really isn't that "revolutionary" IMO.

The directional shieding is the best thing about it, but other then that it really is more or less the same old combat of most other mmo's.

Click icon for special, but instead of it being instant you push the directions, really feels more tacked on rather.

It'd have been nice to have it be more player skilled/focus and ditch the whole icons thing, just straight up combo's themselves.

The clicking the icon makes the combat feel disconnected because you have to either click it with your mouse or move your hands away from the movement/directional attack keys.

The way the older combat system was described sounded better and more unique (the icons weren't "clickable" they were just there to show you what combo's you could do, like how Guild wars works kind of, you can only do the special abilties you have "equipped").

LOL you made the person look realy stupid. i pitty him LOL:D

No I didn't. Why wouldn't he think it was running DX10, Funcom did their best to keep the last minute ditching of DX10 as quiet as possible, and I think it's probably still printed on the retail boxes.

All this will get better once they realize it. Its the first day and the first day has gone A LOT better than some other MMO's first day or days for that matter. I remember I was so frustrated with WoW the first day I said forget it i will wait a couple days. This game I just got right on and played. Yes the game is demanding but it DOES scale well for lower machines, if your coming from WoW dont complain. I play a lot of like free mmo's and other mmo's that you may know ( GW,LOTRO,WoW, Anarchy online, EQ1&2, Mythos, SWG,EVE) and I ALWAYS get them on release except some of the older ones that I was only 9 when they came out. So I would say I have a fair amount of experience in the MMO world. The things you mention are so small your really shouldn't have mentioned them at all, because I can say with high certainty that they will be fixed within this first month.

ahh realy? i knew about this around 2-3 weeks ago. ok fair play then maybe he diddnt know that. i thought it was widely known. usualy any negetive points of a game gets blasted in the air

I was surprised how smooth yesterday was. I had some some DC issues in the morning, but after about lunchtime I played for 5 hours straight without a single issue. Surprised the hell outta me.

I think there's been a number of similar incidents recently, the siege tower battles were boasted to have very large player limits, in the order of 500vs500, and the manual reveals this is currently limited to 48x48, a bit lame IMO.

Yeah this game is pretty awesome. Reminds me of Witcher. I played way too long last night.

The install was completely insane, 27 gigs or whatever, took like an hour. I had to uninstall some old crap to make room. (CoD 2? Rome: TW? Diablo 2, wtf?) 700 meg patch however did go quick, like 500kb/s download.

Also, smoothest MMO release I've seen. I was in there and playing on the most heavily populated server (deathwishwhatever) and it was running fine. Got booted from the server once but got right back in.

I started a Herald of (wtf is it), what a crazy class. Basically a fighter/mage, it can breathe fire and briefly transform into a Cthulu-looking beasty. Cloth wearing melee mage, so its a bit of a glass cannon and I died a lot to mobs as I figured things out. Still not clear on the melee system (like how do I cause fatalities, etc).

Character creation is the best I've seen in a MMO. Good intro and tutorials, lots of MMOs just dump you off at the start and say 'good luck'. Graphics are impressive (I have a high end system, dont know about low-end), though I will probably tone them down for high-end pvping.

Well , i lucked out and randomly was able to attain a collectors set last night. After a LONG install i got into it, and it ran decently on my girlfriends machine (AMD 64 3000+, 1 gig ram:eek: ). Thankg god i just put my old 1900xtx in there or i dont know what would have happened :p.

It still looks decent even when i had it on the low settings. Pop in is HORRIBLE but that was expected with the little ram she has. Anyway, as far as launches go, this is probably the best ive been a part of. The last MMO launch i had was WoW and that was rough. It plays rather well, madea barbarian just to test out the melee combat/performance issues and what not. Im going to give it a lot more time today.

Im thinking about starting. What seems to be the top Melee DD job so far? I was thinking about ranger, but some people saying Barb is good. Anything else that compares or beats?>

I rolled a priest of mitra

Pros:
Combat system is fluid (this is most important in MMOs to me)
Emmersive story
Graphics
Quests aren't just grindfests

Cons:
Chat/Friend system
Zone loading (minimal)

------------------------------------------------

There's skills and feats:

Skills - Run speed/ anti cast interrupt/mana regen/health regen etc.

If you're a caster you need the cast concentration talent maxed out, otherwise you're in for a wold of pain.

Feats - Since I'm level 7 only, I can't comment much on these, but I assume they are like WoW talents.

Priest Heal Over Time spell is interesting, it's a buff but if you're at full health it doesn't tick, if you are hit it heals for 13 seconds. You can rest pretty much after any fight, this speeds up the game making your downtime extremely marginal. "Rest" is simply a skill you get at the beginning requiring no water/food.

I can honestly say it was a clean launch, and I have no intentions of playing wow again. I think this game is thusfar better then wow.

I don't know what the person was saying about grass/trees they looked really good to me. Like 500x what wow's looks like.

Also, I only got killed once last night and went to the white sands isle. I haven't seen level 20's camping spawn points.

have they announced the monthly fees on this one yet??? Im a big fan of diablo and Guild Wars due to free on line play

I'm loving this game, it's beautiful, fun gameplay, just awesome all around. I just made it to level 10 rolling a conqueror.

I really don't think it'll take the crown from WoW, though.

In the options menu, DX10 and SM 3.0 are set. It changed the water quality significantly and added the bloom effects that weren't available before making the changes. I also wasn't up on all the news about the DX10 version of it not working or anything like that.

I only got the game yesterday, and I knew very little about it beyond having seen a friend of mine play it Monday night.

Yeah, I read barely anything on it too, what server do you play on? I see most HardOcp'ers play on Deathwhisper.

I'm on Ajujo. It's a PVE server. PvP isn't really my thing. At least not at present. I did it a bit in Guild Wars, but I sucked at it.

Incidentally, I checked in the options outside the game and mine is running in DX9 mode. Also it didn't make any difference when I set to DX10 mode. I guess the changes I saw last night were due to me changing other settings which I've spent quite a bit of time doing. Its' messed up that it allows you to set DX10 and SM3.0 and doesn't actually do anything with those settings.

Ahh yeah, I'm more of a PVP type guy, but I havent been into any mmorpg's in over a year or so, so I hope this game will give me some entertainment :p. Yeah DX10 mode will be out in a few months, atleast (let's hope) it comes out faster than LOTRO, and less buggy.

I bought the game yesterday to say that I started an MMO on launch day but so far after a night of playing as a Priest of Mitra i gotta say meh... Its pretty and all but I'm not impressed with the little shifting shields gimmick and I dont understand the point of the day/night instances. But i put down 50 dollars so Ill play it for a month and see if improves. Also its weak that you have to go to lvl 20 to even get into the world. Meh, maybe itll be better after I escape from Tortuga.

I am on Deathwhisper and thinking about re-rolling on PVE server. Although I really liked the way WOW's PVP servers were, this is way different. There is camping everywhere, I can't even quest. There are aton of people at each respawn point, just waiting to kill you. If you manage to get away, you will more than likely get owned by a group of people 3 levels higher than you :(. I asked around, people are saying that most lvl 20's are just pissed at the fact that they can't quest past 20, due to higher levels camping everywhere.

The griefing is sounding like a big headache. If one does roll on a PvE server, they still have the big siege battles and stuff right? I’m thinking it’s similar to WoW, in that PvE servers still have BG’s, but there is no PvP in the open. Am I right?

Ugh nooooo :( That sounds lame. And the game is down till 8pm tonight, well it says in the launcher at least.

Oh and another thing, will they reimburse you time for their downtime for maintenance etc like WoW?

You can play on the culture PvP servers, which are set up like WoW. You can only attack people from different regions, not everyone. The standard PvP servers remind me of Shadowbane.

What's the difference between Culture PVP and pure PVP? Just a lot of chaos in pure PVP?
