AoC

Haha, I could never get used to using the number buttons on my keyboard, I am faster with the mouse anyway. I use 1-3 for my directional combat, everything else is my mouse.

This works well for me too, although I sometimes lose focus of pointer and struggle to hit the buttons once in a while, I'm going to have to look at remapping maybe q and e and c and other keys around wasd for combos, although the reliance on the 123 keys for fighting makes fighting and moving trick to begin with.

Theres probably a better way to do it with mouse buttons isntead of 123 keys, may tinker with that today.

I'm getting a fatal Error when i launch it, is it because the servers are down and it can't download the patch?

Is it up for grabs now? About to turn on my desktop and check. I wonder how much of an FPS improvement I am going to get.

anybody having issues either logging into the official forums OR anybody getting weird artifacting mostly on character models with SM3?

Those are my only two issues...

i know that you probably have checked this already, but have you checked your video card temps? BFG 8800GTX is Ocied pretty well I have had a friend who constantly had it overheat, he had to crank up that fan speed to stop that from happening. Mine runs pretty cool. I did crank the fan to 85% constant to keep it even cooler.

I dont think heat is the issue. All my other games run fine with no artifacting. Including Crysis. This seems to be a problem with the game/drivers as its mostly just on models. I dont get any crashing or anything even after hours of play.

what really bothers me though is the fact that i cant get in to the fucking forums...

lol DirectX 10 option is removed, why put it in the first place when it wasnt ready? o_O

Im al level 31 so far. Heres some junk I dont like about the game.

I wish they would hurry up and fix the traders so we can use in game email.

Also, the wounded child quest is broken, the game lags alot more than other online games ive played.

The Guild UI is terrible (your guild info screen doesnt even tell you how many members are in your guild and once you join a guild it doesnt show up on the guild search either.)

Bosses dont seem to drop any good loot.

So far Im not seeing the multiplayer aspect of this. The quests are mostly soloable as long as you are the same level as the mobs (theres some exceptions but not enough) so basically its an online single player game with a chat feature. Maybe this will change in the higher levels i dont know and of course building and defending your guild city will also add this but so far ive just been single playing it up and chatting with people since when I got this game on day 1.

All the patching and server downtime is always happening during a narraow stretch of the day that I have to myself. I know its a personal thing but its still really annoying.

There are some pros as well but other people have already covered that.

I Agree, this patching during daytime is STUPID, they pick the worst times to do things.

And for anyone who thinks WoW Pvp is all that and BG9 being so pro, I laugh, lmao.

I can of begin to agree. It seems to be a single player game to me also.

Since the game is geared to the 17+ crowd patching during the day seems like a smart move to me. They are patching during the time when people are most likely going to be working and not playing games. I'd bet the busiest times are 5PM-12PM. The weekends are another story, but during the week I think they are on the right track.

Patch is finally downloading now :)

@Dan_D But they also patch during primetime as well, guess we will see how it goes.

The game is fun, I agree, but could be way better if they can fix all those issues plaguing it atm.

I would have to agree that Funcom did a very good job launching AoC, especially when compared to other MMORPG games. However I will also say the character classes need some tweeks.

I haven't read the whole thread and will add this just in case.

For people having FPS problems, turn off bloom and all shadows. If that isn't enough kill AA.

I happen to like the game a lot so far, and as others have said some classes need tuning to be sure.

If you want an all around satisfying class to solo try the ToS (Tempest of Set).

I am a little nervous as I have a level 28 Tempest of Set and have the feeling that Funcom might power them down a bit, especially when PVE, so easy compared to other classes.

ToS will be nerfed, no question about it. As has been mentioned previously, all of the healers in this game are overpowered as of right now. Unless you have a decent arsenal of disables, they will outlast you.

As a HoX, the only chance I have of killing any of the healers is to polymorph right in front of them (there is a feat that stuns anyone around you when polymorphing) and using Fire Lance, then following up with a 0.3s Hellfire Breath.

Don't want it to be taken that I'm complaining about having no disables as I'm loving HoX. He just seems to be more suited to group PVP; in that regard, he can murder. Having a 2HS weapon, most of his attacks can hit 2-3 enemies in an arc around him. Add to that, an improved Hellfire Breath can be cast in 0.3 secs and has a cooldown of 4 seconds. Hits anywhere between 300-900 and can also give fatalities without locking your character up.

As an aside, I wanted to mention something I found immensely helpful when playing the game. Most people dont know, but by hitting the X key, your character will do a manual block. The block itself is useless, but this move can be done at anytime and it will overwrite your queued actions. The way the game works is that when you're doing any attack or skill, you can hit your next skill awhile and it will be queued to happen once your current move is completed. By doing a manual block, it cancels your queue. Can be very useful in PVP as well as PVE as situations can change. Hope that helps.

They really do. The Barbarian can only take a pitiful amount of damage before dying. I also think they should probably have greater stamina than they do.

Their busiest times are 20 hours a day? Holy!

I know, I'm being a smartass. I'm sure you meant 5PM-12AM. :D

Regarding stamina, I think the hardest part to get over in this game is the mentality concerning potions. In so many other MMOs potions are something of a commodity to be used only in raid situations/boss fights. Over time we come to understand that potions are hard to obtain, usually requiring some type of tradeskill to create.

However, in AoC, they really want you to have full use of potions. To give an example, when I started the games I only used potions when I was in dire need.. about to die, PVPing, etc.. I found during my play that by the end of my 10 levels, I had amassed close to 30 of each potion type (hp, mana, stam.) The way potion tiers work in AoC is that every 10 levels a new rank of potions start dropping. After I got to around 30, I had 30 of each type of potion for 3 tiers now. It was starting to be so ridiculous that I almost had no inventory space for loot.

It was at that point that it dawned on me. They really want you to use potions in this game. Since then, I use them very often. You'll find that it allows you to push through solo instances extremely fast as you almost hardly have to stop (for my class anyway). I have a near endless supply of stamina, which is all my guy uses. (HoX only have one spell that uses mana)

And as far as barbarian survivability, lets just say its a lot better than HoX :p

I just hope it doesn't turn into wow and everytime someone calls nerf devs jump at the oppurtunity. I also hope that when they nerf, it's not an insane one like wow to the point where said class is underpowered and it takes 6-12 months to rebalance.

Maybe they should hire Jameson to fix all of their problems. One more ting.

In all seriousness though, I don't think the priests need a nerf to the point that they can't play the game by themselves. They just need a knockdown to where they aren't the powerhouses they currently are.

Just one more stuffs and then you can have break.

Wait, just one more stuffs.

Priests do need knocked down a bit though, i can take on 2-3 melee quite easily.

Yeah its great that traders are in.

For those without the game, basically the Bank and the Auction House are combined. You can right click items in your bank and set a price for them to sell, or right click them again to stop selling. Convenient and simple. The mailbox and guild bank are on other tabs for your bank.

Why don't they have a trial version I am like others that posted I don't want to pay 50 bucks just to find out my system won't run it. Isn't it normal to have a demo or trial version of a game before releasing it. I'm a WoWaholic and want to try something new but don't want to pay 50 bucks for something that I haven't even tested on my system.

Well its a 27GB install, so that is probably why they do not have a quick trial version you can DL :p They have friend's codes that will be active soon, once Funcom is happy with their net traffic situation. Then you can just install the 27GB from you friend's DVDs and play on the friend code for a few days.

i've taken on 5 and walked away from the fight. granted i had like no mana and almost no health after the fight haha

Yeah the game is a big bastard.

If you have played - RUNE & AoC - can you compare the combat for me?
- my kids middle name is Conan (from the novels)
- he is an ex-WoW player & is now playing AoC!
- he has never played RUNE (he is 20 & I am 44)
- he can only say it is better than WoW (which I think sux).

I really don't like "Role Playing" games - they are just too slow!
- I tried Oblivion (on & off) for 8+ hours & the action & combat was too passive "clicky".

RUNE was the best KB & mouse "sword" game I ever played!
If you aim left & up - you struck left & high - or left & down + strafe = different attack.
You could use a sword, shield, mace, ax, etc. in a SPECIFIC direction & STRIKE there!
That was some very FUN - face to face - in your face - fighting!

I am wondering if AoC will appeal to me?

PS - if you ever read the novels - are any quests "novel" based?

EDIT - Bah.... I don't think I want to try this BS...
