Anyone regret going i7?

I've had an ongoing arguement over on Guru3D with an dumbass who won't accept that i7 has any genre of games it does better in. If you drop by Guru3D, let Ethne know what you think about this subject. He's called me a liar and many other names over my stand that RTS games indeed can benefit from i7.
 
It's been an interesting discussion over one little question. Either way, I can answer my own question now. I bought an i7 system last night and I was concerned that I would wake up this morning and regret spending the money. I don't. It probably helps that I got a very good deal on the system but I'm more excited now than anything.

My original question was referring more to buyer's remorse. Maybe I should have clarified that. Interesting input in this thread though.

That guy is a complete ass.

Look, he can sit there and blatently spread BS all he wants. His loss.

All the while, I am sitting back with my i7 and chewing through every MMO/RTS I can throw @ it.

I agree. We've gone round and round about it. I know FPS games don't benefit, and said so up front. My point is that FPS games are not the only genre out there and getting that message to anybody including THIS site is like pulling teeth. Even Kyle won't respond to my PM on the subject. It's actually quite frustrating that the web reviewers are taking such a narrow view and not looking any further into this at all. They've all made their minds up based on a few FPS games and moved on like there's nothing more to it. I simply don't understand the lack of interest.
 
I sorta had that thought, but it was for me getting 6 gigs instead of 12.....what a difference that made!

At the rate that DDR3 prices are dropping, I think you should be thanking yourself for not paying for the extra stick. I regret paying ~$175 for my set of OCZ gold ram.
 
6Gb of DDR3 1066 at Newegg can be had for 75 dollars now. That has to be below 60 Euros. I expect within a couple of months, you'll be able to get DDR3 1333 for that price instead.
 
For fps games which is the majority of what people play, dual core is all you need.
 
$67.99 6gb DDR3 1600 kit was on Newegg last night :D glad i saw it before the price went up 100 bux

Yeah, I am kinda wishing I had bitten on 12 gigs instead of the 6 that I just got (DDR3 1600 CL8 3x2GB) for $67 shipped... would have been $134 for both kits (12GB) then.
 
Between both of kits I spent around $500 or so, I wish I could have gotten for $134 instead :p I went with the Cosair Dominators
 
I love my i7 system =) was an amazing upgrade! I have it runnin at 3.925ghz now @ 1.232v on vcore
Amazing setup. I have only 3GB cuz still running Vista 32 and really dont wanna put the time into reloading and reconfiguring my TONS of games an dprograms.
 
I got a new Blackberry yesterday, and it, more then anything, has given me reason to totally love my i7. I took a 2 hour movie, dragged it into the Blackberry Desktop Manager to transfer to my cell. When I went to actually perform the transfer, the app asked if I wanted to convert the file to a compatible format. I picked yes and let it do it's thing. It completely transcoded the entire 2 hour movie in around 7 minutes. I lit a cigarette and the movie was done transcoding almost exactly when I finished my cigarette.

We're not talking crap quality either. The movie was a 1Gb file before I started, the transcode reduced it to around just under 400mb so it was a full transcode. All 4 physical cores and all 4 virtual cores pegged 100% and I could visably watch progress happen in the progress bar. It was bloody well magical :p
