Any miracast devices that work?

My mother is wanting wireless HDMI for Christmas, I don't have the $180 at the moment, but was looking at some of these Miracast dongles that go USB over WiFi, curious if anyone has experience with them, reviews are very mixed.

I hope I don't sound facetious, but does her TV already have such functionality built in? I was quite surprised my Samsung TV had it, and it is at least 2-3 years old. I also found my Xbox One could receive a wireless video broadcast from my laptop and an android tablet (though unreliably). Devices like Google's Chromecast are a bit cheaper ($25 right now, promotion), though they have severe limitations as to what they will accept for a stream.

define "work". If by work you mean:

- it works with most devices and brands, unlike Apple, Sony and Motorola solutions, which do not.
- it has a powerful wi-fi solution, capable of streaming even in buildings with dozens of wifi networks jumbling the air.
-it can stream content from many sources.

Then i am not aware of any wireless streaming solution outside the HTPC ecosystem.

a common "feature" of brand devices is that they do connect to the source device, but in doing so, disable the wifi connection of such device to the internet. Like my "Miracast compatible" Blu Ray player from Sony does to most smartphones and tablets, except those of Sony. Miracast is possibly the worst of the wireless streaming solutions on the market today, because of such "feature" .
