Antec P180

Well if it helps...I switched to the Ninja from a XP-90c...the XP-90c just couldn't keep my opteron cool...the Ninja works amaingly in my P180.

Example of before and after temps please.

i will say that if i had to do it again, i wouldn't get a p180...the effort just wasn't worth it. the main problem (that i found) is that because the psu is at the bottom, all of the wires are bunched together coming out of a small hole and plugging wires into the motherboard is a PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i guess it's quiet, but the case fans at lowest aren't silent (though the db level is lower than a 120mm nexus...). the case is heavy, i guess but whoever says it's heavy is just weak. it's like 30-40lbs...not that bad. pm me if you have specific questions :)

I'd very much like this case. My birthday's coming up, I've asked for that, but considering that I do go to LANs at friends' houses and so forth somewhat often (a couple times a month, I'd say), I'm wondering what the portability factor's like? I've read reviews on both ends of the spectrum; some say it's EXTREMELY heavy and it's physically impossible to take to a LAN party, and others say it's light enough to tote around (definately not as light as an all-aluminum case, of course, but manageable).

Right now I have a Chieftec Dragon-series case that has an all-steel frame and drive bays and so forth. How is it in weight comparison? I guess they're almost the same size.

I've had both a Dragon and a P180 and the P180 is definitely heavier...probably a good 10 lbs. worth. The shipping weight according to the FedEx label on the P180 said 35lbs in box with nothing in it IIRC. I got rid of my P180 yesterday because it was a pain to tinker in if you have to change things (e.g. PCI slots if you use the VGA shroud).

Is there any other classy case of roughly the same size that anyone would recommend? I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, and I'm not really confident in replacing the heatpipe with an active cooler, so unfortunately I think Lian-Li V-series cases are out of the question.

Has anyone tried to cut another 120mm blowhole on the top of the case? Is there enough room? I can't tell from the pics..

You could try one of the other Lian-Li cases that don't mount the mobo upsidedown. Or if you travel alot, the Antec SuperLanboy is a great case for that kind of thing...all depends on taste.

There's a lot of room between the top of the case and where the mobo starts. I don't see why you'd have problems cutting a 2nd blowhole in the top of the case if you wanted to. Might interfere with the 1st 5.25" bay depending on where you put it, but it would probably fit right next to the other one with no issues.

How big are the Lian-Lis? They look a great deal smaller than they probably are...what are they comparable to?

I don't know what Lian-Li is comparable to since they were some of the early aluminum cases that other's copied :).

Here you can see a "fuller" listing with pics:

Also note the 6 or 7 series. The 6 is the smaller one and the 7 is larger. I've built a comp in the PC60 case and it has just as much room on the inside of it as the P180 (at least it feels like it). The P180 is seriously the smallest large case I've ever used.

Considering I just took mine to a New Year's LAN party, I'd say it's quite portable. I've got a carrying strap/harness thingy that came with an older DFI Lanparty motherboard (very much like this one, but DFI-branded)and it fits the P180 just fine. It weighs about 40 lbs/18 kg--easily managable with one arm with the handle on top.

There's probably room...but why would you want to do that?

I enjoy mine. It's nice and stylish, and almost quiet enough even with stock cooling on my 6800GT and retail box cooling on my CPU--and since next week this and this will be delivered to my doorstep, it's going to get even quieter. Build quality is very high (I didn't have any of the warped door/side panel problems that others have reported), the drive bays and internal components have rounded edges and feel very solid and well-made. Even doing the initial cable job was fun, because it was different from any other build I've ever done. The video card duct is basically worthless, but other than that, there's very little I'd change about the case.

Agreed. I am not sure what would be gained with a second blowhole. It would basically vent heat from the optical drive and the floppy; not known as the greatest of thermal conductors. In addition, the stock blowhole has a proprietary shape and grill. It would take a lot of work to get the two blowholes to match.

Could you give me your before Ninja (XP90c) temps and after Ninja temps?
