I know there was a review or test someone did on this running on a system at full load for so long..

I can't seem to find it..

but in essence I'm trying to figure out if this PSU is good enough for:

System A)

Q6600 Stock cooling, Stock Speed
8800GT
2GB Ram
1 Sata HD Drive
1 IDE DVD Drive

System B)

E2180 Stock cooling, Stock speed
7800GTX
2GB Ram
1 Sata HD drive
1 IDE DVD drive.

The only after market cooler I have is the ThermalTake Blue Orb II... so I'm not sure how that is compared to stock cooling, but that's why I am leaving them at stock speeds.
If i did have this PSU, how much headroom do I have to Overclock with that PSU? Or should I just leave it at that.. THe main games myself and my girlfriend play are Counter-Strike: source, and that's about it.

Other than that I do alot of Photoshop, and Illustrator work =\
 
why do people feel the need to throw in 'my girlfriend' ? is she your first or something?

anyway no that's definitely a dumb idea to pair an 880GT and Q6600 with a 380 watt power supply
 
Running your specs on a rig with EA380 now for about 2 months 24/7 without a problem.
Although I am using a 256MB version of 8800gt, which of course draws less power than the 512mb version. Drawing a bit under 290 watts at the wall plug at full load.

this is still a bad idea as your PSU is running near full load all the time.

What's gonna blow first... a 380watt psu running at almost 80% load or a 750watt psu running at 40% load.

Well there are many power supplies out there that can handle being at 75% load or more without popping. But it might shorten the life of the PSU just a bit.

Anyway, The Earthwatts 380W is good enough for system A and B. However do note that System A might stress the PSU a bit too much and it may not be able to handle it.

Why does it matter if they say 'my girelfriend' unless you are jealous or something. Its like saying im building it for a friend or my dad or my 12th cousin removed 8 times, except you use the word girlfriend, cause... that is what she is.... oh noes

Someone was selling them in the FS/FT forum, and it is a pretty good price.. but instead of risking computer parts for a good price, I should just buy a PSU with a little more juice eh?
 
i got a corsair 450 2 weeks ago from buy.com for 54 AR/GC and it works great and only heard good things.
 
I think both systems will be fine, you might even be able to overclock system 1 as long as you don´t increase vcore.

When increasing clockrate powerdraw and heat increases in a linear fashion, if you start raising vcore however it will increase exponentially, might want to avoid that especially if your only using a Blue Orb

My system as i have posted before in this forum draws less than 180w at full load ( c2d, H3870, 1 HD ,1 DvDRW ) if you add ~60 w to that for your quad you´d end up at 240w and you wont see that much being used even in games.

Furthermore, spinning up one HD, one optical and a couple of fans at startup shouldn´t draw enough power to be of any concern in this case.
 
Everyone is overestimating the power requirements ;)

This psu is fine for both cases. The key word here is to not overclock the Q6600 then we are looking at about 200W top at full load (both cpu and video, which is a worst case scenario). However, you don't have a lot of room to grow and if you plan to expand, you are better looking at a EarthWatts 500/Corsair 450TX/Corsair HX520. About the 2nd system, there is a lot of room so don't worry.

I have a EarthWatts 380 running 2 Q6600 system overclocked to 3.4 GHz and they run fine. Granted there is no video card or a cheap one like ATI Radeon 2400Pro. Both systems pull less than 175W from the outlet while running folding@home 24/7, which stress the computers a lot.

That measurement of 205w was total system power, and the system tested already had an 8800GTX in it. There would be a bit more consumption when both the 8800 GTX and Q6600 were under load but would probably be under 300 max. Less since you aren't going with a GTX.
