Another reason PC pirates should burn in hell!!

it's obvious you're an anti-console PC gamer that can't see any good in any console game. Your opinion is thus invalid, maybe some day you'll wake up. till then, eat some bacon.

No I do not own a current generation console anymore, but I got my first console, an Atari 260 many years ago. I went through every console from then till the 360/ps3, and bought hundreds of games.

I am not anti console, I am however saddened by the lack of quality titles, and the fact that there are so many console ports that are now marketed as a pc game.

But yea I do think the pc is the superior platform. :p

Just look at the review sites. Most of them do PC and Console games.

Gamerankings: DMC4
PC 76.6%
PS3 84.1%
360 83.7%
So even according to reviewers, DMC4 is a mediocre PC game.

Because the number of people buying the Creature Creator is greater than the number of people buying DMC4. There are more modders for Spore than there are players for DMC4 on the PC.

thats very true, because spore appeals to a wider audience and is more innovative. Do you have a point to make are you just trying to illuminate this for me?

I disagree with the reviews personally... the game is awesome & I'm glad Capcom made a great port.

Hey I'm not here to defend DMC4. That guy though is one of those people who will pass on many consoles games simply because he's brainwashed and biased. I feel sorry for anyone who misses out on games like MGS4.

76.6% is hardly mediocre.

BTW, some of the reviews DMC4 PC got (ie. 1UP) were ridiculous. Its far and beyond the superior version when compared to the console versions, but the reviewers gave it a lower score...

I can't comment on other people but I can tell you 100% about my experience's, I first look for a demo of the game that I might buy if I don't find a demo I download the whole game and try it. If I like it I buy the game 100% of the time and I do it for two reasons. First I want the original cd/DVD for my collection, Second I want patches and updates. You can't get support for an illegal copy of a game. Now if I don't like the game I delete it end of story.

I believe this is the majority of the cases when it comes to this subject. Most gamers WANT that original copy for there collection. If the game sucks NO ONE wants to pay for it thats human nature.

Just my 2cents

I must be doing something wrong as a PC gamer. I buy all of my games, never had to demo a game by pirating them, yet I'm happy with all of my PC games. The last game I bought that I was not completely happy with was Black & White 2, it's just buggy and crashes constantly. That was a whole $30 and it was probably worth $15 in its current state.

A funny blurb I found on another site concerning STALKER Clear Sky system specs..

RECOMMENDED

• Microsoft® Windows® XP/Vista (SP1)
• Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 / AMD 64 X2 4200+
• 1.5 GB RAM
• 10 GB free hard disc space
• 256 MB DirectX® 9.0c compatible card / nVIDIA® GeForce™ 8800 GT / ATI Radeon® HD 2900 XT
• Keyboard, Mouse
• LAN / Internet for Multiplayer
• Buying a copy of the game, you filthy fucking pirates

Of course with this game, the piracy excuse will be the system specs are too high..

games are an infinite good. many copies can be made from the original with out destroying the original. Unlike cars where you can't make a copy with out ruining the original. What game companies need to to is make people want and they will by. Steam is the best example because all the extras you get when you by a game there. They are even adding more features soon so it will only get better.

The point was that a huge number of people buying it could easily pirate games, since you tried to say that The Sims did so well because Sims players didn't even know how to pirate games.

I tried the demo on my PS3 and what a piece of crap. It would be wrong if people didn't pirate that shat.

Now that is a game I'm definitely preordering this month. The devs deserve my money thoroughly for turning S.T.A.L.K.E.R. from vaporware to a very kickass game. The mod support is awesome, too. Looking forward to putting my PC to good use with a ton of time poured into exploring Clear Sky in & out. :D

Throw pirates in prison....wow...you really live in a vacuum, maybe the government will look into all the piracy as soon as they are done prosecuting all the pedophiles and solving all the murders, you have too much free time on your hands.

As for DMC4, I demo'd it, it sucked bad. No mouse support? You mean that critical piece of hardware all PC users have? No biggie, Ill just convert my PC into a hybrid X360 and buy a controller for $40, hey I just bought the game twice! In all honesty DMC4 is console critter crap, mindless slashing of mindless enemies all whilst looking "cool", I found this game to be mechanically, artistically, and visually inferior to 90% of the games I've played over the last 5 years...IMO, but it is one that is obviously shared by many, or at least certain aspects of my opinion.

Piracy has little real effect on solid titles that perform well on people's system, this has been proven time and again (as someone else already mentioned), the music industry made the same claims but the numbers show 5% of sales going to piracy and only crappy one hit wonder artists being left out in the cold. Records are broken regularly in sales, so where are all the pirates?

I am guilty of downloading music, but I buy CD's and MP3's as gifts for people and I attend 3-4 concerts every year, this behavior is mimicked by many so called "pirates" around the nation. I bought GOW for my X360 but not for my PC, so do what you want with that, but I still spend the money and if a few mega-conglomerate corps lose a few bucks, I could really, really care less since they would just as soon reach into your pockets and give you nothing in return. I do feel bad for the development teams and I suggest buying the titles you like, I am not advocating piracy, nor am I criticizing those who spend their hard earned money on legitimate games, including me.

Just like Wal-mart is instrumental in driving down inflation (like it or not), piracy keeps companies honest to some extent, look what happened with Crysis, CY knows Warhead has to perform or nobody will buy it. I tried it out on a E8400 w/ OC'd 8800GT and 2GB RAM on XP and I could barely manage 35fps on medium settings....is that fair if I go out and buy it and I can't even run the damn thing? I could possibly return it, but I have to consider the time and gas I spent as well.

PC games are hit and miss, often marred with technical issues that prevent you from playing at all, unlike their console counterparts, which to their credit, do not experience these issues for obvious reasons. You would never have to buy a mouse for an X360, there would be an outrage and people would boycott the game.

Piracy is technically copyright infringement of an intellectual property since you are not depriving anyone of a physical sale, particularly if you were not going to buy the game in the first place, then who lost money? It is a fine line since you may not be honest with yourself or respect the developers right to sale of a quality product they worked hard on and buy a product you normally would, but these are not the majority of pirates IMO. Again I am not advocating it, or covering my ass by declaring this, but throwing them in jail or pursuing them to the ends of the earth? This mentality is more dangerous than the mentality of a pirate IMO...you have to be kidding and I hope that you are.

So,I can go to a Lexus dealer, test drive the car and then say"well,I wasnt going to buy it"and drive of the lot and keep it..

Great post Katotonic I completly agree with you on all those points.

So,I can go to a Lexus dealer, test drive the car and then say"well,I wasnt going to buy it"and drive of the lot and keep it..

That doens't make any sense...
If you download a game/software you don't take any hard material from anyone... it's bits and pixels.

I think Katotonic covered my point of view lol

infinite goods, taking a copy doesn't change the original.

So,I can go to a Lexus dealer, test drive the car and then say"well,I wasnt going to buy it"and drive of the lot and keep it..

yes in fact you can do that and if they do nothing to stop you from doing that more people will follow suit. Hell if I saw millions of people driving out with Lexus's and nobody was doing anything to stop them I would hope in line for my free lexus.

Well,I chose to pay for mine..;)

So,if I could hack into a banking system and move 1 million dollars to my account, its OK because it just bits right??Not like walking into a bank and stealing paper money..

I used to pirate my ass off way back when but as things went along I saw more piracy arguments and the points on both sides I started to feel like a fucking douche.

There I was, sitting on a $1300+ self built PC and pirating games like I couldn't afford them. I WTF'd outloud once that realization hit me. Been buying my games ever since. Ironically once I started getting a collection of actual non-pirated games amassed I got fucking 5 of those "Please stop pirating [game here]" letters. lol.

Also I'm glad Capcom is porting its 360 games over to PC they're a quality company that always got my business anyway.

If you download a game/software you don't take any hard material from anyone... it's bits and pixels.
In a sense, all you do when you download software is downloading it, which does not constitute use of the software. When you install it, you're installing it, which constitutes use, but not the intended use (to "play the game"). I don't really knock anyone for downloading, in all actuality. You want to download shit you'll never actually use? Knock yourself out.

When you begin using it, however, you've crossed the point where you're no longer just acquiring software but using without consent of the owners of the game's content (generally the publisher) and its intellectual properties (generally owned by the publisher, but often times the developer). That's infringement. In effect, you're utilizing the bits you downloaded to perform a task ("playing the game") that the owners of that property have set a market price for. That "experience" (the license to use the software) has its associated price.

So, no, you aren't taking "hard material" from anyone, but you are, in effect, sucking a potential profit away from publishers unless you eventually buy the game (ideally at the price you would have paid at the time you started playing).

you just don't get it and your attempts at making catchy examples are EPIC failure at best

you move 1 million dollars, you are MOVING OUT of someone else's possession/ account, you are taking it from someone else's account, which in the end, will deprive someone of money when they go to get it, it wont be on record, instead it is in your possesion to convert to physical money..

i download a game off the internet, the store STILL has it's CD copy!, the maker STILL has it's copy... NO ONE can no longer access THEIR copy.

If you read the DMC reccomended specs it says Xbox 360 controller. I admit without it the game isnt the same.

Lexus would find that making cars for consumers would not be a viable option due to pirac...stealing, but that's beside the point and not really relevant to copyright.

I've always taken a fairly loose handle to PC piracy. When developers cry foul about piracy ruining sales or the necessity of invasive DRM, I tend to roll my eyes. However, that does not mean that those who pirate are somehow righteous and deserve praise. Even if it's just bits and bytes, copyright protects things like words and pages (books) images and sound (movies). Irregardless of the medium there are people behind the work.

Bringing up quality of the game to justify piracy seem illogical. The same reasoning could be used to defend a shoplifter from stealing an Atari cart of ET. While one could argue that piracy is supposed to push developers to work harder. One could even interpret it as demand for the game and just shift game to a different medium (consoles) where piracy is less prevalent (not absent, though) and the demand is the same. If you don't want the game because of bad reviews, just don't buy it. It's simple as that.

As an aside, I found the general consensus of game reviews for the PC version very flawed. Having to buy a controller to play the game well should not be a major setback. Hell, reviewers praised Epic for including mouse and keyboard support for UT3. Don't just look at the numbers. There are many reviews that claim this incarnation the definitive form of the game with features that satisfy the sadists who love DMC3 and the "Tighten up the graphics" nerds of the PC market, but still berate the necessity of a controller. Flight sims need joysticks and race sims need wheels to get the most immersive experience and those cost 2-5 times as much as a traditional controller. So, the argument of having to buy a peripheral to get the most out of a game seems to be a hypocrisy.

Overall, I'm as disappointed of the defense of pirating over pirating itself. It's not a question of quality. A bigger protest would to not buy the game to begin or wait for bargain bin pricing. It's not a question of price since it's the most affordable option for the specific game. It's not a question of availability for testing, since the demo was available way before its release. The only issue I've had with DMC4 of its absence of digital distribution options.

Piracy, simply put, is a willful act of not purchasing a good as upheld by the law. The only problem is the law part, which on occasion protects the pirates over the rights owners. I still fight for fair use, which has become damaged because of DRM. Still, I don't attempt to circumvent the opponents to only boost their statistics.

Stellar logic! :D

All games should just be on Steam...

As I read the first page I was thinking the same thing:

I mean even on steam for the Indie games or the games Valve doesn't make there is a trailer/demo for a lot of the games so you can test them out. I like the Steam Store.. I mean there are 2 games right now that I really want to buy (Audio Surf and The Wonderful End of the World (Katamari Damacy rip off, but I need my fix on the PC ya know).

But I guess having all games on Steam would not be practical at all

If that helps you sleep at night then knock yourself out. What you are doing is STEALING period point blank. The point is,unless a company says"Here, this game is free"you downloading it and using it without paying for it is STEALING.The only Epic failure is your attempts at justifying being a thief!.I on the other hand have no problems with paying for what I want.

bla bla bla
make good game = people buy
make crap game = people read reviews, might wanna try it out, download it, it's crap, don't buy.

I don't "pay" to try a game there's simply too many crap games out there I'd go broke in a minute and I wouldn't even enjoy it slightly.

There's a couple game I'll buy without trying but they're very rare and it's games I know will be good.

People and companies need to stop their god damn bitching and start producing quality instead of that shit they've been serving us for the past 5 or so years.

There are demos for most games. There is no reason to pirate games that have demos.

I have a tip for you, trying to prey on peoples conscience by saying things like "whatever makes you sleep better at night" isn't going to magically turn the situation around.

Most people posting about this aren't trying to justify why they download pirate material, simply listing their reasons why they do it, Im sure most people have thought it through enough and realist that while it might not be the worst thing in the world, it's certainly a moral gray area and others are likely to view their actions as immoral and certainly illegal.

And I sleep fine at night, I dont feel bad in the slighest, i buy a load of media each month, I put money into the industry in general and I think it goes to the people who deserve it the most, and on top of that I download a bunch of stuff as well.

The only way people are going to change their minds on this is if the conseqeunces are made more real and servere.

The point was that a huge number of people buying it could easily pirate games, since you tried to say that The Sims did so well because Sims players didn't even know how to pirate games.

I didn't try to say it, I said it. And it's true. unless you can prove otherwise.

Sadly a lot of companies are talking about eliminating demos because 'they don't help to sell the game' according to them. In actuality I think it's more along the lines of "they don't help sell a crappy game"...

If stealing Zombie Strippers is the worst moral crime I have committed than I have a pathway lined in gold strait to Hayzuse in Jeven.

And I sleep fine at night, I dont feel bad in the slighest, i buy a load of media each month, I put money into the industry in general and I think it goes to the people who deserve it the most, and on top of that I STEAL a bunch of stuff as well.

Fixed..

Just saw this over at CVG about Devil May Cry4 being pirated to death..

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=194449

Cmon..WTF..The game cost ~$35..And I dont want to hear the usual piracy defense of draconian DRM or shitty port bullshit..This game was a solid conversion with some PC only additions..These guys deserve to be paid and I personally bought it on launch..I know pirates are generally frowned upon on this site and that needs to be driven harder if we expect companies to continue to support PC gaming as Capcom has...

Thoughts..

Every pirated copy is not a lost sale. Don't buy the shitty industry made-up numbers.
