Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Announced at Massive Event

Details on many of Activision Blizzard's upcoming titles were revealed during a joint event with in-game advertiser Massive Inc. According to MTV, Call of Duty 6 has officially been titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and is slated to arrive in fall 2009.

Additionally, Activision Blizzard acknowledged the “Call of Duty” series will move forward yet again with “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ coming this fall. No details on the game were released.

I believe the COD4 engine was new (it obviously used some assets from previous engine).
 
I would like all the maps from both previous COD titles and the option of day/night versions, larger maps, better sounding weapons, longer campaign, improved draw distances and a map editor as easy to use as FarCry2's.
 
I loved Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. I'm looking forward to another installment. i was so pissed when Call of Duty 5 went back to World War II.
 
lol, wow, the franchises are getting so long in the tooth that they're creating franchise-franchises. I can't wait until Modern Warfare spawns another game, creating the first franchise-franchise-franchise - unless EA beats them to the punch.
 
Just like an expansion pack...for $50. I'll stick with WAW for a long time.

WAW went back over 60 years and has co-op and zombies + tanks. That doesn't feel like an expansion pack to a modern warfare game. I have a feeling THIS one will be like an expansion pack though, with a new short single player, but nothing new to offer in multiplayer.
 
Interesting, i'm intrigued to see how they'll make this worth it. I had doubts about CoD5 being so close to 4... but they still feel enough like 2 completely different games....

oh well... i'll still own it.

+1. I was incredibly disappointed with the WWII theme (but at least they got Keifer for voice acting :D). On the down side, yet another game to suck my time away and keep me up late :eek:.
 
The only good thing about WAW SP was the plane mission. That's the story with all COD. There's always one good vehicle mission that is out of the box or puts you vicariously into someone's shoes in the kinds of situations videogames should be putting players into...not more stupid jungles and bunkers and trenches and labs and bases, etc. etc.

So much computing power wasted when we could have amazing games putting us in amazing places like submarines, skyscrapers, world famous buildings, inside the Shuttle, international space station, under the ocean, etc. All we get are more jungles and labs and deserts and desert towns. Sigh...

opposite for me, i liked CoD4 but too many modern shooters already, i know there are plenty of WWII already but it was nice to get a new WWI, new as in looks nicer, engine wise, details and such

I can't think of too many good modern shooters. On the other hand I can think of a ton of WWII games. For modern non sci-fi shooters you've got CoD4. What else has come out in the last two or three years outside of the Rainbow Six games? (Which aren't exactly the same style anyway.) Shooters like Call of Duty 4 that aren't uber realistic (or try to be uber realistic) aren't that common right now. If I missed some good titles let me know. I'd love to play some new games that don't suck.
 
Hell to the yeah.. I already know that call of duty 6 rights was going to infinity ward.. thank god they confirmed it. Can't wait. If they spent time on it like cod4 then its gonna be a blockbuster. =D

WaW is such garbage. Tanks are terrible...and pointless. Seemingly crumbling plaster cannot be peirced by a shell. Brilliant!

Gun sounds are terrible.

Some textures plain suck (explosive barrel is one that comes to mind)

Guns feel wimpy...

They still have marty and last stand...

and the rank is store locally, meaning I could attach to the process, look at the memory map, find the address of my XP and increase it, same as one could for COD4.

COD4 was fun, but its brought down by some massive flaws. WaW just reskinned COD4, and left all the junk in there. I regret buying it.

COD6..uhhh. Sorry. I'm sick of WWII games. Why do you think beating "modern" themed games to death will fare better? What will it be, new engine, same guns, same multiplayer?
 
I loved cod 2 and 4, and i assume i love modern warfare 2, but isnt this getting a little out of hand 3 new COD games in like 2 years? We'll be at COD 10:Future Warfare in like 3 years
 
I wish it went into the futare.

Battlefield 2142 was my favorite battlefield... =/ even with the bugs and shitty engine... was still a shitload of fun.

This is like CS to CS:S ... COD4 to COD6 just seems like a graphics upgrade because gameplay can't be much improved on COD4... they did it right...

They do a new Call of Duty game every year.
 
Burn it. Probably another money grab based on the same engine. Paying 50-60 dollars for what would normally be called an expansion pack on the same engine would be unacceptable, just like cod5 was.
 
I would love to see another Vietnam era flavor. BFV was one of my favs for a long time. The music, the theme, etc.
 
Definitely psyched about this. I just hope it's not just an expansion-type game like WaW.
 
From the rumors I've read about COD6, it is going to be set in the future. Not sure whether they meant near future or sci-fi.

Another Infinity Ward game is a must play imo. COD4 is still incredible to play.
 
wow... they just came out with cod5, they better not rush it, and maybe even take competitive play into consideration... it's been a while since thats been done :/
