AMD Zacate

I have noticed that netflix streaming is much lower quality on my htpc setup than my xbox 360. Even old SD shows like x-files look better on the 360. Does Netflix even support HD streaming for PC? I don't see the HD logo showing up when I select identical titles for PC/Xbox like the new Spartacus series.

HTPC is an opty 165 and 8400GS.

There supposed to, but I also am not getting the HD logo anywhere.

I lit one of these up over the weekend. Everything works pretty well except for HD Netflix streaming. It's not just poor, it just plain isn't watchable. Kick the quality down one notch and it does fine but bleh.

Only have 2GB of memory installed but I wouldn't think this would make much difference. Silverlight is pretty much completely CPU dependant right?

I see it on some of them. But its still hit or miss. Ive tried messing around all weekend with it, such as messing with refresh rates, resolution etc.

I have the same problems with HULU when I set resolution to 1080p on monitor. Constant skipping of frames.

Ive given up on tweaking it atm but Im following this thread closely.

Anyone else have a hell of a time getting HDMI audio on there zocate boards. I ahve spent the last hour screwing with it & the best I can get is an error that says "no driver was supported in this driver package" when installing the HDMI audio driver listed on either Asrock or realtek's pages.

You need to use the CD to install the drivers, the latest CCC doesn't include them.

For $110 (and shipping) it would be pretty much identical for HTPC use but with a lot less heat and power draw (not to mention a much smaller foot print).

If all you're doing is pure HTPC tasks then there isn't much reason (based on everything I've read so far) to choose a full on PC system over a Zacate based HTPC system.

For basic computing (like an office PC) it seems to do much better then an Atom based system, it's somewhere between a cheap Athlon 2 and an Atom.

I might have to pick this up, thats not a bad deal

That's weird it must not detect the zacate board right because these are the options it gives me on the newest set of drivers for a 6850, and 880g board it shows the hdmi audio driver in there. Do the zacate boards come with a newer set of drivers on the cd?

I will uninstall the amd drivers tonight and try just the supplied drivers tonight.

To follow up, I figured I'd spend some time with it before I posted anything but it turned out to be a bit long winded, so I figured I'd make my own thread.

Some may find this info useful.

So I finally got around to testing Netflix HD streaming.

I tested with an episode of Top Gear. For the first few seconds I had bad stuttering and the CPU usage was maxed out but after a few seconds the video become smooth again and I watched the entire episode without any more stuttering (The HD logo was lit up the entire time). CPU usage was still pretty high but it worked. I tried another video in HD and the same thing. After a few seconds it was smooth and worked fine.

ASUS E350-M1 PRO.

Where do you see the hd logo at. I have never seen it from any pc client.

Well I Found the Stuttering Issue.. & yea when it happens its freeking really bad.

Now anyone know how to limit the Netflix quality so it doesn't bump up that last notch to HD in WMC?

From what I can tell, it only goes HD if you select it. Based entirely on what I can see in the WMC app versus the website player, Netflix will only go HD when you click the option but I don't think it works through the netflix WMC app yet.

I can 720p netflix streams just fine but it doesn't do HD at all when I'm in the WMC app.

Mileage may vary though.

So did a little more research. Seems the issue is also happening with mac's and boxee's as well as pc's reguatdless of specs. Specially in the last 2 weeks.

If I can figure out how to keep wmc from bumping up the quality to hd it will be good enough for now.

From what I've read on other forums, the Flash update 10.2 fixes issues with live streaming. No more stutters even on 1080P stuff

I didn't think it did either, but I will try it reguardless

Flash 10.2 Does not resolve. Just updated it & confirmed.

Uh, I thought your problem was with Netflix. Of course the newFlash update isn't going to solve it; Netflix uses Silverlight and teir last Silverlight update created lots of issues.

I did and I'm still not sure why you'd think a flash update would fix your issues with silverlight...

I hope you get it fixed though, I've got the itch to switch my HTPC to something smaller.

It was suggested by another poster. And I said netflix didn't use flash, but I would try it anyway.

More importantly, how did you get "posted via mobile device" as a sig?

I think it's Silverlight that has yet to be updated to support hardware acceleration on the new hardware.

I didnt have time last nigh to check CPU/RAM/DISK/Network activity when I fired up Netflix streaming. I'll check it out tonight and report back.
