AMD Bulldozer expected for Oct release.

I USED TO BE THE BIGGEST INTEL FANBOY EVAR!! But their just not cool enough for me now.

So I'll be getting a Bulldozer eventually. Even though I LOVE INTEL. But they suck ;)

So instead of crying like a group of little anime girls who had their house robbed and lost all their little Pokemons :p I'll just get a BULLDOZER!

But benchmarks have been released its not even faster than the i2600k

Benchmarks also have been released showing that semi-colons can clarify many sentences more than just commas; but I don't really care that much.

:p

well dont expect mind blowing numbers that beat or come close to intels current cpus.
I will be surprised because the intial benchmarks arent impressive.

Initial benchmarks? More like leaked benchmarks that don't have one shred of proof supporting them.

But yes, I do not expect them to beat out Sandy Bridge. Maybe come close and perhaps match, but beating it outright is a bit too much to ask.

You're not helping...

more OBR numbers. So most likely fake

with launch just 9 days away they could be real however

I call any benchmarks before NDA is lifted fake.

Unless they provide picture proof they have the actual hardware.

wEvil and leeleatherwood, that was rude and uncalled for. I did not disrespect you and I do not merit those sort of responses.

Why compare clock for clock at such high speeds when we don't know how well bulldozer scales with clock speed.

Terrible fakes.

Honestly, as long as the IPC is at least 25% better than My Current 1090t and the overclock can average at 5.2Ghz, I'll be very happy with it, especially if it comes out within the next 2 weeks and is Priced at the Rumored $260...It won't exactly by the the shock that the original Athlon and the Athlon64, but I think it'll be like the Radeon 4870...

When was the last time you got a 25% increase in IPC and 50% OC capability in a new CPU uarch vs. the previous one ?

I am pretty sure that has never happened for either AMD or Intel. Intel did once get more than 25% IPC improvement but that was when they switched from P4 to core2. And in that case they certainly did not have any increase in OC capability.

Percentage wise I believe core2 kills prescott. Maybe Intel didn't get higher clocks as one of the dual core Pentium4s were the highest clocked CPUs ever released. Clock speed and percentage increased are two different things.

any benchmark that rates phenom's better than FX is obviously crap.

Prescott performed worse than Northwood on many tasks and was more power hungry. It didn't scale better either ( 3.8Ghz vs. 3.46Ghz ). That did not stop Intel to manufacture it.

Pentium 4 -> core 2?

Well, the lineage goes Pentium 3 -> Tualatin -> Banias -> Dothan - > Yonah -> Core.

You didn't get 25% IPC increase in neither transition ( except SIMD which Core doubled as resources ).

Netburst wasn't perfected after Prescott ( early 2004 ) when it was decided it is a dead end. Cedar Mill was a simple shrink to 65nm, but it performed quite well and at much lower power. Had Intel actually invest time and resources in Cedar Mill , the gap to Core 2 would have been much reduced. But Netburst was history already.

I was capable of posting my e6300 @ 3.6ghz, for a whopping 90% OC :).

But I don't think that's what the OP meant. I believe he meant a 50% OC increase over what's currently possible.

i hit 3.33 easily with my e6300 if i would of had better cooling i could of prob taken it farther but i was happy with the results for such a relativly low end cpu.

I know =) I just couldn't remember what my P4s hit, my 2.4C hit 3.2, my 3.0 was about 3.33, but that was about it.

So whats the deal.. is bulldozer ever coming out?

Nope.
AMD's new business model is to send small numbers of sample chips to the proprietors of unreliable websites and blogs in order to get kickbacks on the ad revenue created by posting unverifiable benchmarks for fans to argue over on internet forums.

Pretty soon this will be their only viable business model.

If Barcelona damaged AMD's reputation with OEMs significantly, BD/Llano debacle simply killed it. AMD is more or less toast in servers ( Magny Cours already brought their share to pre-Opteron levels ), imagine HP, IBM and Dell how happy they are only receiving now a part which was supposed to be on the market 2 quarters ago.

I wonder what frequencies would 32 nm netburst hit ;)

To give you a hint, Glen Hilton ( lead arch for Nehalem ) said in his Stanford presentation that if they had used Netburst it would have offered more performance than the Core derived design but it would have been less power efficient. However, if you look at SB and Haswell, they are basically keeping core count under control, cores get wide vectors ( AVX ) and more advanced SMT. His 2 cores + vectors+SMT philosophy is becoming true.

I've put a link to his presentation, you can see at the begining the design choices they went through. You could also search the video webcast, it includes lots of details.

Thank you that was very interesting read.

You mean Global Foundries? Llano is fine, it's GloFlo yields that are sucking, and impacting BD production.

?? Global Foundries ? Do you think IBM, DELL, HP, Asus, whatever give a F about GF's issues ? They deal with AMD, not with GF. For all they care, AMD could handcraft its CPUs as long as they pass validation, are produced in sufficient quantities and on time.

Allow me to quote somebody who might have a clue :

'Delays in the release of Barcelona caused some OEM partners to question AMD's ability to execute on new, cutting-edge product introductions' - Jeff VerHeul

Corporate vice president of engineering at AMD. He should know a thing or two...
Imagine what does partners are thinking now and how much effort they spend on AMD based products, especially servers.

Seeing how its where the chips are being made only idiots wouldn't.

Anyway, why do we care? We're not an OEM. I am waiting on bulldozer and I blame GloFlo for the delay.

It's a complicated business, being on cutting edge of technology. Zacate and Llano chips are selling like hot cakes.

Intel and nVidia have had similar issues in the past. SB-E delay, IvyBridge delay, SB chipset recall, Larrabee (this one never even got released lol), nVidia Fermi... list goes on.

If anything AMD is completely kicking ass this year. How many semi conductor companies you know are launching three new architectures in a single year? All but one are available on newegg for instance. That's not even counting their GPU division, which is performing great right now. Only thing that's holding them up is their fabs, which like I said is Global Foundries.

So the OEMs may be pissed at AMD but really, it's not AMD's fault. But be my guest and keep calling it like it isn't.

I was thinking about getting a Phenom II, but if it's on Oct 12 I'll wait to see what deals I can get. Bring it on AMD!

I'm not going to be able to afford a new mb, + new chip. So it's 1100 or 1090 for me. Then maybe whatever comes a generation after bd.

Server Bulldozer was shipped on time. Server OEMs got what they wanted when they wanted. H2/11 was the date for anticipated shipping for years.

Has anyone found any retailers we can pre-order from? BLT took their listing down when the "September 22 ETA" rumor spread. I'm hoping I don't have to drive all the way down to Microcenter to pick one up or lining up at Fry's hoping there's enough stock to go through.
