Ran across a nice collection of screenshot of all races in skyrim. Having played since Morrowind it's nuts to see what were previously regarded as cartoonish characters rendered in amazing detail. My Plea: Please don't screw this game up with any drm or dlc bs, Bethesda. This is the last game I'm holding out for there being any hope left in the gaming industry.

I think I wont be playing this for a week or two until these get sorted out (via mods)... Whoever did the models/textures for this is terribad.

For what it's worth, keep in mind all released screen shots and videos have been for the xbox version.

But I don't think it's the poly count or the texture quality. It's just the models themselves are kind of misshapen and amuterish, like they were in oblivion. It's probably the same person doing both, so thats not surprising. I mean seriously that tiger face person looks like someone from a poorly done oblivion mod :(.
The textures are kind of dated looking, but as you said these are probably the xbox shots, so it is the game at it's worst. But still, can't they leak the PC version :D I'm just glad this game will be (I hope) easily moded with HD textures and decent body models!

It looks pretty bad, I'm not the biggest fan for this genre especially at my age, but those models look terrible. Might as well wait for mods and texture packs as stated earlier. Which means, no reason to purchase this on day 1

looks decent. What worries me is how low they can potentially fall with the depth and gameplay

I guess I am impressed easily as I think they look pretty good. Here is a nice comparison image of the races over the past 3 games.

Actually, the bodies look good and flexible. You can be 280 pounds of muscle, or you can be more lean. I'm not so sure mods will be able to introduce that much variety. Unless mods can introduce the same flexibility or more, I might actually favor the vanilla models this time around. Some popular Oblivion mods made everything look even more of the same than vanilla did.

Looks good to me especially since this is console footage.

ya i agree, looks solid (hence why i posted it). Sure if you look closely there are some imperfections here and there, but I'm sure in game that will be much harder to notice. And even if so I'm sure the modding community will be plenty happy to help.
Also elderscroll games have never had the best graphics of individual elements (just look at the character models for oblivion and morrowind which look pretty bad for 2006 and 2002), their strengths have always been creating huge, detailed environments.

Looks nice. Nice comparison photo's there. We don't realize how "bad" things used to be until it's compared to new games.

Are you kidding? This is light years better than the fugly potato-shaped heads of Oblivion. Hell, even Morrowind's face models look better than Oblivions.

I think they look really good. Especially compared to Oblivion's potato heads. I like the new Kahjiit the best. I think Im gonna play one first this time around. Argonians look pretty cool too, look at the scales and texture on the neck! Plus they all have lips now!

My excitement for this game just jumped, I can't fucking wait, going to get a week off of work and just chill in front of the computer!

big ass +1 to this. if skyrim makes me connect to the internet to play then i think i'm done with non-MMO gaming.

Good comparison, although I've seen mods for Oblivion that results in much better looking characters. Point is, we'll have to wait for future mods to see what Skyrim's engine is capable off.

But I'm fine too with what we're seeing there. Hopefully those are real time rendered and they don't do stuff like turning off self-shadow in the final product to improve performance

Gonna have to disagree with DeathPrincess , those models look very good and those are only 360 models. Just imagine the PC models with mods .. *drool*.

I think the models themselves look pretty good, but the textures are on the shit side. Hopefully the PC version with high textures will look better. As far as the actual shape and detail goes, I'm satisfied with what I've seen so far.

Looks amazing in comparison and good by today's standards. If the animations are significantly improved and the voice acting is better and more varied, and from what I remember hearing they both are, then the world should feel much more alive and interesting. I already loved Oblivion so I'm thinking this game is going to easily be one of my favorites. I'm excited.

The voice actor count has been increased considerably. The only thing difficult to judge is animations, it is hard to conclusively judge those other than in actual play in my opinion.

Indeed it has. The voice actor count has gone from 14 people (Oblivion) to over 70 in Skyrim.

The more I hear, the more tempted I am to preorder. Unfortunately I know the industry's track record with adopting last minute bs so I just can't.

I'd wait before preordering, unless you want in on that Newegg special. The game is still very far off, and there isn't really any incentives for preordering at the moment.

And this actually leads to another issue that seems to be overlooked in this whole EA/BF3/Origin/Steam issue. But has anyone noticed that Skyrim as of now is still only available digitally on Steam? And that it has no discount (not even 10%) and the only preorder bonus is TF2 hats, which might have only been during Quakecon, since it isn't even mentioned anymore on the store page.

Excited for the PC version, even though everyone I know is getting 360. But... this has to be PC for me :)

Less then 3 months away now, doesn't seem to long after waiting for a long time already but I'll probably just wait until like a week before it launches to pre-order it since their isn't any real incentive to do so.

wow those look amazing, i cant wait

no idea why some are saying they look bad, this game just looks more and more amazing, realy why are some saying it looks bad i cant understand we are all looking at the same screenshots looks good to me

I know, it seems like it was announced only yesterday.

I have it pre-ordered just because I want the spiffy map. I'm a sucker for maps.

I'm impressed by those texture. What oblivion have really annoys the hell out of me.... I'm probably spent more time playing with mods/texture than I did the game itself.

If this gonna have same leveling up and scaling system as oblivion..... I'll hold out until a mod comes out for it.

Otherwise... DAY ONE BUY for me. Yes I'll take a break from EVE for this.... well maybe leave the account active with long training skill. :p

Much better level scaling and a totally revamped level up system. Thankfully it seems like Bethesda has paid close attention to the modding scene for Oblivion and has built Skyrim appropriately. As a long-time Oblivion player I will say Skyrim looks to be shaping up to be one of the best games in a very long time.

Can't wait. Might be one of two games I'd pay full price for this year (BF3 is the other).

So far everything I have seen of this game does not excite.

It's really too bad.

I think it looks pretty good overall and the character models look nice. But some of the textures are pretty nasty. Look at the screenshot of the argonian a few posts up. The armor, fireplace mantle, and table on the right are all low-res. There's also something on the left that looks like it has a Quake 1 texture on it.

Funny thing about those morrowind shots, is that some modded morrowind faces can look almost as good as the skyrim faces. Quite a lot of talent.

This is most likely console footage. Usually most of the assets are devoted to keeping player and story NPC quality high.

IIRC, Morrowind and Oblivion had low-res textures on both the console and PC. I have my doubts that Bethesda will use many (if any at all) higher-res textures for the PC release. Even their newer games have a lot of pathetically bad looking textures (FO3, FO:NV).

At least we'll have mod support and will be able to fix them.

There is kind of contradictory information on this, they've gone on record to say both that the games will look the same (obviously excluding adjustable things like resolution) to that the PC version will look better with higher textures and graphics features.

Also I'm not exactly sure where the criticism is coming from. What is the comparison being used here? Is Skyrim looking bad compared to Oblivion? Compared to modded Oblivion? Compared to a game of a different genre? Is the criticism of what is shown more about being technically lacking or is it a complaint about aesthetics and design?
