All Myspace Data Before 2016 is Gone

Okay you win. My earliest I can remember was 14400 into the library using lynx to browse.

1200/300 baud modem using tin, pine and lynx.

Lynx to browse the web (it was great before flash became a thing)
Pine for emails
Tin to download porn, line by line at resolutions my 3x 4k displays probably wouldn’t even register >.<

40 here, I'm starting to feel it.

48 here, and though I think age discrimination is alive and well in IT, I've been fortunate the last few years to land several new positions. I hope I have maybe one more jump left, because as a consultant, the tech treadmill chews people my age up and you just get tired of it.

Oh, I didn't communicate well. I'm an Accountant, I meant I felt the general aging effects.

I'll bring the canes so we have something to wave at them :p

I go back before any of these social media sites, as I started with a 300 bps dial up modem to CompuServe
Didnt pay for Compuserve but had a good number of local BBSes to choose from. Had to be careful back then because same are code didnt always mean the free call, if it was more than 15 miles it cost you per minute... got in trouble a few times with the parents over that. But yep 300 baud modem, had the choice between that and a mouse for a C64 back in the day, both were 29.99.

Hmm kind of wish I had backed up my photos and conversations on there now :( Some of the people aren't alive anymore so would have been nice to have. Anyone know if MySpace ever had a data backup download feature like Facebook has where they let you download all your stuff? If they did I likely used that at some point but I'm not sure if that was ever a thing or not...

That sucks and sorry to be a dick but.. you had so many years to do that, man. If it didn't happen it's probably not as important as you now think. lol

Yeah that's true, I may have backed them up somewhere, the problem is finding where the hell I saved that stuff lol. As you said it was years and years ago :p. It's just one of those things that with life being so crazy you don't think about wanting until it's gone heh.

Free your mind by letting go. Everything is temporary. The past doesn't even exist, all that's real is now.

I thought myspace went the way of the dodo long time ago, just prove how little i care for any social leechwork.

You mean all the pictures I repeatedly yelled at my exes not to put online of me are finally banished to a deep dark tape drive in an NSA warehouse?

Good.

Facebook next.

Then no more girlfriends

With all the stealth censorship and other shenanigans I've been expecting a Myspace resurgence.

Myspace was silly. Twitter is more noxious than divorce court. Facebook is faulty. Instragram is gross. Tumbler is toxic.

People are the problem, people.

MySpace allowed you to discover/find people and learn CSS.
Facebook allowed grandmas to keep in touch with their kids who are now adult parents.
Snapchat allowed kids to shitpost directly to their contacts.
Twitter allowed everyone to shitpost publicly and media businesses to say that something stupid is trending.
Instagram allowed people to build a fake image to other fake imagers.
Tumblr allowed porn.

People aren't the problem.. Social media is entirely faulty.

You still validate my point though. If unchecked and controlled people will just spew shit out onto the internet. Leave a platform open and unregulated in anyway and just watch what appears. Don't blame the tools for the mess the person made holding it.

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it....

I transferred the 8mm movies from when I was a kid to DVD's and added music, since they where a little boring without sound.
We have also been going through old family photos now that my parents are gone. Just wish they had written names on the back so we knew who some of these people where.
Have photos of grand parent and even great grand parents.
Everything is getting digitized to make it easier to pass along.
