Acer Predator XB271HU - 27" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync IPS ULMB 144hz

Build quality is top notch. It's very pleasing aesthetically as well. The OSD is sensibly laid out (still not as awesome as the Asus joystick but it's OK.)

Colors are nice and certainly appear a bit more vivid than on the Dell, but not a drastic jaw-dropping difference... but it is noticeable. Contrast appears to be about the same as the Dell or other monitors I've recently tried, maybe a bit better (although obviously not as good as the XR3501 that I tried.)

The whole glow issue is nowhere near as bad as I feared. It's about the same or less than on my S2715H. If I sit extremely close to the screen, it might bug me, but at any reasonable distance it's hardly noticeable at all.

165hz is sweet. :) Pixel response time (ghosting) is very quick. It has more ghosting than on the 144hz TNs but not by much.

Anti-glare coating is perfect - it's just the right blend of anti-reflection while having zero graininess over the image.

I really have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't see a weak spot.

As luck would have it though, mine has a stuck pixel, smack dead center in the screen. In any other position I wouldn't be bothered, but this... this I can't deal with. Ugh.

Just got this monitor to today. I went to local computer shop to buy mechanical keyboards but ended up walking out of the store with this monitor LOL! the combination of flush and thin bezel, IPS, and Gsync got me. I upgraded from U2711 that I've been gaming with for 5 years. The monitor i got has no dead pixel and there are little back light bleed that doesn't bother me at all. I like that anti glare coating of this monitor compare to the u2711 i have.

Im gonna be selling the U2711 locally but I have no clue what is the value of U2711 these days. Anyone?
 
Damn it sucked packing this display back up in the box :( Oh well, hopefully it won't be too long for Amazon to get some more. It's a great monitor.

Still, it's not like having a S2716DG to fall back on is a bad thing :)
 
Amazon has these in stock for anyone looking. I have been waiting for the PG279Q to be back in stock so I can get a replacement for my current one (clusters of dead pixels :mad: ) but I think Asus is finally doing something about their quality control. I asked for a replacement from Newegg for my first one and after a week they just refunded my card instead. I haven't seen any in stock either since early December so hopefully that is a good sign....

Anyhow back on topic. I'm not thrilled by the aesthetics of this monitor however if it comes in with no issues I'll deal with it. These seem to be doing a lot better than the Asus so here's hoping...
 
I got mine yesterday and am not pleased with it. It has the exact same problem that the Asus pg279q had that I returned recently - specifically, the white uniformity, with the screen being yellowish in the top portion of the screen. I think I'm going to return this as well, as whites not being pure whites bugs the hell out of me. It's like looking at a white rug that has turned yellow over time.

I guess I'll stick with my Asus pg278q for now. I know that people have had better luck with this monitor than the Asus one, but the fact that it's still a gamble buying either is completely unacceptable.

I got my replacement today. (Go UPS, right through yesterday's blizzard!)

So far as I can tell, it's very good. BLB, glow and uniformity is about the same as the one I just sent back (maybe *slightly* worse uniformity, but it's not bad at all.) No dead pixels spotted yet either, so yay! I'll probably be keeping this one.

Fixed the glow, turns out if you loosen the screw that is in the case directly behind that area, it goes away. Now I have a perfect monitor.
 
You don't really fix glow due to loosening the screw. You fix BLB by loosening the screw. The screw is located behind the center of the screen that is usually causing problems for a few people (it is behind the Predator logo).

Will this monitor have additional input lag compared to the XB270HU due to the addition of an HDMI input? Or is that a myth?

You're right, I meant to say bleed, not glow. It annoys me to no end when people mix up IPS glow and backlight bleed (I see people calling glow bleed a lot) so I'm mad at myself for mixing the words up, lol.

Moot point, as monitor will be en route back to Amazon today. I did post a pic on overclock.net, but that pic is not representative of what I see in person.

For what it's worth, after having tried both the pg279q and and xb271hu, I much preferred the Asus one for the following reasons: more solid/stable stand, better aesthetics, much better osd, and the ability to change refresh rate on the fly while in-game (I couldn't figure out if this was possible on the Predator?). I did like that the Predator didn't have a power brick, but for me, that was only its positive.

For now, I'll stick with my pg278q (at least with this, there is no backlight bleed and whites are whites) until someone is able to come out with a higher quality 1440p/ips/gysnc or the quality of both these Acer/Asus monitors improve to the point where it's not a gamble playing the lottery with these. Though it does appear the Acer ones seem to be higher quality and I may have just had back luck with mine, I'm not willing to take any more chances, as returning/shipping these back is a total pain in the ass.

I also am curious about this... the incredibly low lag on the XB270HU was a big selling point for me.

Thinking about going to Microcenter and picking one of these up. Time to upgrade from my 2008 24" gateway and 2007 24" SOYO monitor

So what does it actually look to your eyeballs? Looks like your camera is greatly exaggerating the typical IPS glow. These screens looks like that with exposure high and viewed from the worst possible angle.

Also, you can get rid of the bleed in the bottom center by loosening the screw directly behind that area on the back of the monitor.
 
I got mine a week or so ago and I am happy to say that my search for a monitor is finally over. Zero dead pixels, practically no bleed, and the white uniformity seems fine as well. It may be a bit darker on the top but honestly I cant tell if it is or if my eyes are just playing games with me. Either way I don't notice anything unless I am on a totally white screen so it is fine with me.

I will say that the PG279Q is absolutely a nicer monitor in terms of features. The overall looks, lights, buttons, and joystick are all better in my book but at the end of the day it comes down to the picture. Two of the Asus couldn't give me a decent picture while the Acer could.

its clearly visible when looking at it straight on, not though a camera.

I was playing Crysis yesterday, and I could see hint of purple and yellow in corners.
 
I've been waiting on the PG279Qs for a while now. Since they've all disappeared from the stores (I assume Asus pulled them to try to fix QC issues), I was looking around and stumbled on this monitor. It looks SO much nicer than the original one. I'm thinking about ordering three.

Can anybody who owns one tell me how high you can raise the display on the stand? I'm pretty tall, so I need the monitor to be up high. It won't impact my buying decision, but I'm curious.
 
Got my 2nd panel Friday. Satisfied with this one. No dust specks, no stuck pixels and acceptable bleed I suppose. This had better be my last damn LCD ever though.

Since I happen to have a tape measure sitting right next to the monitor, it can be raised 8" from surface to bottom of display.

Also on the tall side, but I elevated my desk. The monitor can be raised ~8 inches (20 cm).

(*EDIT* Sorry, was previously answered. Just too early in the morning for me).
 
Just picked one of these up today after going through 4 Asus PG278q's. There is some yellowish bleeding coming from the bottom right and top left. You can only notice it on a black screen. Do you think its worth exchanging it?

I have one too on the popular corner which is the bottom right corner. It use to bother me too and i was about to exchange it but I decided just live with it.
 
Man this screen is way less sparkly then the PG278Q :D

Just got mine setup today - Provantage had about 40 in stock when I ordered mine last week. No dead pixels, no real BLB that I can see. It looks like the IPS glow is more silver in color like others have mentioned, which is less noticeable so far.

Pretty happy with the ULMB mode in Quake Live as well.

Probably the only negative so far was how much of a pain in the ass it was to get the monitor out of the box. I tore chunks of the styrofoam on accident while trying to get it pulled. At least the pieces weren't really "structural" in nature.

Hi, could anyone point me to some good color settings for this monitor? I am enjoying it thus far but there are so many settings that I would like to try some calibrated ones.
 
By the way, I have to report that this monitor plays extremely well with my PS4 hooked via its HDMI input. No other monitor nor any HDTV I have ever used with my PS4 have given me the great color reproduction the Predator gives and the fast response it provides with no visible motion blur. Actually this Predator monitor could be named as the best display to use with your PS4.
 
Ive had this monitor now for 3 weeks and its an awesome monitor. Easily the best monitor Ive ever purchased. Love everything about it except one thing...the price!! :)
