after going through alot (read the posts below ) , Acer customer support admited that there is an issue with this monitor ... and they are currently working on a fix for it in Taiwan ... (the issue of the monitor not supporting the 1680x1050) ... they also hinted that there might be service required ... so i decided to bail out .... i love the monitor so much .. it is so beautiful and so stylish .... but i can't wait for a fix that will require me to ship th monitor out and wait for it to return (assuming that is going to happen ).....so i'm sending it back and i just ordered a Viewsonic 201vp .. i'm sure it will be less beautiful than the one i have, and i know it has all sorts of poblems but at least i could see pictures that are not streched out of proportion ......

i'm so unlucky ... and i hate doing this ..

thanks guys for your help ...

do you think i will regret getting the 201vp ?

Hi there ... my first post over here ....

I just sold my 21" CRT... it was just too big.... and to be honest, i did not like the geometry of the picture .. any how ... i'm looking for a 20 inch LCD, i was thinking about the dell 2005fpw, but i've reading the threads here and every where else, and i decided that i will not buy it till dell sorts out the bleading issue ..........i could buy the older one 2001fp , but it just does not feel right to buy an older generation monitor

i've been keeping my eye on the new ACER AL2032wd. it a wide screen with 16ms response time, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,beautiful !!!!!! .. they have it at Newegg (even at walmart.com) for 632$ .... this monitor won a couple of awards in europe .. but the strange thing is i could not find a single review for it on the web ... anyone on this forum have this monitor or read anything about it ?

anyone?

hate to break it to you, but i doubt dell is going to fix the bleeding issue on the 2005fpw. It's the panel something they dont really have control of. I would look into the 2405fpw if you have the money and thats not to big either. I have heard many good things about it with only a few very minor drawbacks and has no backlight issues at all.

anything about the Acer though ? i'm really intrested in that monitor....

hey man,
im liking this lcd but you are right....i couldn't find any reviews on this. I am guessing cuz they just released them in the states march 17 i believe. So just give it some time and i'm pretty sure someone is going to review this monitor. And if you get it before someone does review it, please let me know your thoughts about this LCD.

thanks

actually, newegg has had it for around 4 weeks now... i love the way it looks...

the only thing i dont like is how the speakers are on the bottom.

I have a 2005, the newer revision and I cannot tell any problems at all. Perfect.

I actually just discovered this lcd myself. I'm definitely considering it as an alternative to the 2005. I like the fact that it comes with speakers, so when I upgrade, I can use it as an lcd tv. I really like the stand, it looks really sleek. I too, could not find any reviews on the web. A local electronics store is selling them. I'm going to check it out tonight and report back. From the specs, it definitely looks like an S-ips panel (16.7M colors, 178degrees viewing angle, CR, brightness) everything the same as the Dell. Same resolution too!

don't buy it from tigerdirect ... newegg.com has it for 632 with no tax and free shipping ....
walmart.com also has it for the same price

also, they released its 19" brother , the AL1932D. i decided to save a couple of hundered and go with the 19", i placed an order today and will get it tomrrow from newegg. 389$...

we'll see how that works ..... i will not buy a dell monitor for 600$ and have to send it back and forth to fix backlight issues .....

i just bought the Acer 1932d, its a 19 inch , looks awsome .....it is very bright .. i really love it ..... is it ok to keep the brigtness at max ?? will that ruin the monitor ?thats the way the factory settings are ........ i'm a newbie in LCDs .. also, my 9800 is running it at 75hz .. this is the first time i see refresh rates that high for an lcd, is that normal ? the dell i have at work runs at 60hz.,...

please help me guys ... this thing is so beutiful , i'll hate to ruin it .....

hey fellas,

Finally decided on what monitor i wanted. I was gonna get the 2005FPW or the 2405FPW but the bad experiences all of you had with dell customer service and the bad reviews on the 2005FPW made me change my mind. Just ordered the Al2032WD from newegg....it came out to $633. Hopefully i will have it by the end of next week.

so what do you guys think ? i love it ......and i'm saying this coming of a brand new 21" crt which i sold and got this instead ... the pciture is so crisp, and vibrant .. no dead pixles till now, and no backlight bleading stuff ... i think the wide screen 20" will be equally well built ... i wanted to get it but i ran out of cash ....
forget about the picture .. the monitor itself looks so stylish ,,,,,, and all my friends whom seen it over the weekend were blown away by it ....

thanks to newegg .................i would never buy anything from bestbuy or similar stores .. you just pay extra money for nothing ......

Looks awesome. Question: is there a protective like glass on the screen? Looks shiny.

No, this is not the widescreen version. The 17" and 19" models are 5:4 1280x1024 and are TN panels. The 20" version is widescreen 1680x1050 and is an S-IPS panel. I've seen the 20" locally and it looks pretty good. I'm going to go back to the store and see if I can try out a game or something on it. I dont' know about the smaller versions, but the 20" doesn't have a reflective screen. However, the bezel around the glass is shiny, kind of like the sony hs94P.

How come you decided on not getting it?

I just felt like if i was gonna spend $630 and change on a 20", might as well spend a little more and get the dell 24". I thought it was just a better buy. Dont get me wrong, the acer does look nice but i wanted to spend my money for something that would come in use for future also so i was thinking about long term cuz the dell has component also.

i actually want to take my 19inch back and get the 20" ... the quality on my 19 is amazing .... i think the 20inch will be even better .....

Hi,

I just got the Acer al2032wd. beutiful ...!! no backlight issues... no dead pixels ......

i have a seriuos problem though ,,,, i can't get it to run in 1680x1050 .. how do you do that ? the settings allow it to run at 1600x1200 which i think is wrong becasue i know the maximum supported resoltuion is 1680x1050 .. i'm really confused .. all you people with 20 inch widescreens please help me !!!

reagrds,

latief75: can you post some pics please? When I tried it out in the store, they had the same problem, it was stuck in 1600x1200 and i couldn't get it to go into widescreen. Maybe you need to install some drivers so win. recognizes that its a widescreen display?

reagrds,
Did you install the monitor drivers? You could also force a resolution on ATI drivers if you have a ATI card.

how do you force the resolution ? i have an ati9800pro ...

the driver that comes from acer says that the maximum resolution is 1600x1200 .. which is wrong for sure becasue the picture does not feel normal ...

i tried to install the 2005fpw driver ... it installed with no problem but i still can't get it to run in 1680x1050 ...

i will post pictures if someone could tell me how ...

guys please some help ...

any hacks or something ?

i think the monitor is so new that acer has not fined tuned its driver yet .........

i'm in contact with acer support , but nothing till now ....

shouldn't it automatically go into native resolution on its own ?

please help
