i think the monitor is so new that acer has not fined tuned its driver yet .........

i'm in contact with acer support , but nothing till now ....

shouldn't it automatically go into native resolution on its own ?

It should...here is a hack:
go into advance properties and click on Displays
Next click on your monitor.
Uncheck use DDC and select the max resolution. It will then become available to select.
I had to do this with my Viewsonic A90F+ because it can do like 1730x1358
 
i tried the hack (checking the option to hide unsupported modes) .... there is no 1680x1050 .....??

what next ?

i'm screwed...
 
The pc I tried this lcd on had a GeForce 5200. I looked everywhere in the drivers control panel, but could not get the lcd to run at its native resolution. I also tried the setting to hide unsupported modes, but it was not in the list after unchecking the option. Weird, how about using powerstrip. You could create a custom resolution with it. It might work. Keep us updated.

Your right there is no 1680x1050. Hmmm.. My dell laptop LCD runs at 1680x1050 without no problems. Have you tried the latest Video Card drivers? This guy:

had the same problems and it was a driver issue. I will google some more for u

EDIT: program called powerstrip will fix this issue.
 
i've never used powerstrip before ...so i downloaded it and created a new driver (an option with the program), i set the maximum resolution to 1680x1050 ...restarted, nothing happned...

what now ?
 
i just got a reply from ACER support ... they said that this is a driver limitation, and that they will fix it soon ....

what do you guys think i should do ...? wait ...

in the mean time any damage in rumnning the monitor on higher or lower resolutions ?

also when i don't look straight at the montior i see some yelleowish color ... is that normal ? i don't think it is backlight bleeding becasue i've seen that and that is different ....

hey man,

i think u should return the monitor. and for about 200 bucs more u can get the del 24".
I just ordered one yesterday for $899, no tax cuz i live in NY and free shipping.

just my 2 cents
 
i love the way this one looks .... and i think it is really high in quality ... i honestly don't like dells vrey much ... and i'm already way above my budget ........ for 600$ i think this monitor is the best out there ... and i say this after doing research for so long ......

of course a 24" is much better .. but it will run me at least another 400$ above this one ... and that is just too much for me .......

despite the resoltuion issue i really love it, ...

i appreciate your opinion though .......
 
i'm starting to think that its my video card that is stuborn, i tried to install that 2000fpw driver for my monitor .. it installed with no problem , but still no option for 1680x1050 ...

should i be isnatlling any specific drivers or anything ? i have the latest catlayst drivers from ati....

should i remove the video card and reinstall it or something ?

i'm running out of patience .............


please help guys .....
 
Hmm... so drivers didn't fix the problem and the powerstrip program didnt work. This baffels me. I bet their maybe a reg hack for something. Have you tried google?
 
i meant look at my first post in this thread for updated information about the issue .....
 
I've had the Acer AL2032WD for a week now.
I've had no problems running a 1680x1050 at all.
I'm using a nVidia 6600GT VGA card, and just chose 1680x1050 from the driver menu.
I was using analogue VGA, but have now changed to DVI.(both worked fine)
I was surprised to see a scart socket on the back!

This monitor is very sharp @ 1680x1050, and seems well worth the money.
My only gripe is the anti-reflective screen.
It does reject almost all reflections, but can leave whites looking a little dirty/sparklie etc.


Overall, very very stylish... :)
