Abit IP35 Pro and 1.8v memory

I purchased and installed this motherboard this past weekend. I have it paired with 2GB of G.Skill DDR2-800. The problem is that I kept getting the BSOD with Vista and XP, both on fresh installs.

I checked the memory and it was working in another system. But then I thought, well, the memory is default 1.8v and I thought I'd up the voltage to 1.9v and bingo, it has work flawlessly since then.

Has anyone else have this problem (I'm not sure anyone has 1.8v default memory on these forums - but I thought I would ask). I was thinking of upgrading to better (read = faster) memory anyway, but was curious if anyone with the IP35 series or any other P35 motherboard had this issue?

Yes I have seen so many posts on Gskill not being stable at 1.8V despite the manuf specs (on newegg anyway) saying 1.8 -2.0 that when someone is haveing trouble and Gskill is in the sig, I immediately recommend going to 1.9V.

Specifically which G.Skill memory? The red NQ sticks? But yes, I would definitely recommend 1.9-2.0V. If that doesn't work, then you have a problem.

Hello Bradbury,
I have the IP35 Pro. When I first set it up with my Patriot DDR2-1066 it gave me a C1 (I was half-expecting it as their spec is 2.3v), though they've always been awesome on any other board I've tried them. So, I reseated them and got the same. Next I swapped them for a set of Corsair Dominators, also DDR2-1066... booted right up. Intrigued, later after installing Vista and XP, I went back, set vdimm to auto, swapped back in the Patriots and it booted right up! The initial error must have been poorly seated RAM or some such. I've since cleared CMOS several times and each time it boots up with the Patriots. So I have the feeling it wasn't the board's fault. Mr. Parrish knows his stuff, so it may well be the GSkill. My experience, for what it's worth. Best regards!

P.S. I know [H]Forums is a Corsair haven, but the Patriot RAM is awesome stuff. Unlike the Corsairs I mentioned earlier, the Patriot has never let me down.
