Hey guys, new to this forum but a regular visiter to the site for more the 3 years. Anyway I got a AMD Athlon XP 2500+, ASUS A7N8X Delux (Ver1.0), Kingston HyperX PC3200 2 X 512MB, ATI 9800Pro. I have never overclocked before and I want to overclock this to the 3200+ speed. I know how to increase the mutliplier and the fsb but I'm confused about the memory timing, any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to run at a 1:1 ratio at 400/400 quite easily (11*200) and mem at DDR400. Timings depeding on the actualy rated SPD (default rated speed) would depend on how well your boards bios handles the memory. When i had an NF2 motherboad i ran my timings at cas 2.0 6-3-3 Tras @ 11 (nforce2 board like Tras @ 11). You ram might need more consevative timings...depending, and of course you can always give it more voltage to compensate for running tighter timings (be careful though).

If my memory serves me correctly, I think the earlier revision of this board doesn't support PC3200, only up to PC2700. Only rev. 2.0 (or later if there is one) supports PC3200. I owned a rev. 1.04, sold it because of that reason and bought a rev. 2.0. Regardless, if your CPU is multiplier unlocked, then I guess you can increase it. Otherwise, if what I stated above is true or correct, then it would be hard to OC your system to 3200+ speed as you can't really up the FSB that much without instabilizing your system.

But then again, I could be wrong and you may be able to OC your CPU to 3200+'s speed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on what I stated above.

i'm running it OC at 3200+ speed but its giving me an error with i run prime95, so that's why i'm wondering if its something to do with the memory timing?

i have not touched the memory and its running at 200mhz (400/400)

Run memtest86 on it and see if the memory craps out on you (specifically test#5). If it loops fine, see if it's the CPU. Maybe give it a little more voltage? I had a 2500+ that wouldn't do 3200+ without a small bump in voltage.

Just because it doesnt support PC3200, doesnt mean setting the FSB to 1:1 at 200 wont work. The chipset should be able to handle it, and if it cant, memtest will make that painfully clear.

200FSB on this board was not officially supported until Rev 2.0 if I remember correctly, but that is not to say it can't work.

With the Athlon XP's, keep the memory 1:1 with the FSB, runing it out of sync is a performance killer for the XP.

i think i got a 1.0 then for my dads pc cuz i threw my spare 2500+ that ran @ 3200+ forever....and it wont hit 400fsb, im gonna check on this revision junk...

so if i cant go past 333fsb its kinda pointless then right?

ah well...its still a great board

*edit* my bad, after goin to take a 2nd look @ his pc, the board is an A7V8X-X and i swore i tried to put it at 400fsb 2.2ghz manual speed timings...didnt work before, well today i set cpu to manual 2.2ghz, fsb to manual 200 ddr, and the low latency memory timings to 2-2-2-6 (the mem does 5, but the board wont let me go that low)

anyhow got that beast now runnin @ 3200 like i wanted :) sweet....ill probably drop fan on that lil via heatsink too keep her nice n chilly

Just FYI anyway even if you had an earlier revision of the Asus NF2 it would still run an XP2500 as a 3200, but you would have to have run the memory and CPU async. CPU @ 400 and mem @ 166 (4:3). Good to see you got the VIA board OC'ed to 3200 speeds.
