That's not the point. I'm not buying either one right now either. The point is he said XBox1's launch titles are worse than the PS4's. Even the biggest PS fanboys would have to disagree with that statement. And I'm not an Xbox fanboy.

I think the launch titles are actually slightly better for the Xbox One, thats only because I like racing games and F5 looks neat, and Ryse seems like it might be good. Otherwise Xbox One really has nothing else for me.

I'm only going play Xbone and PS4 exclusives games that's not coming to PC.

Killzone Shadow Fall
Forza 5
Ryse: Son of Rome
Killer Instinct
Dead Rising 3

When you take and share a screenshot from a game do they rescale the image, or do you actually get the originally sized frame buffer like you'd expect and should?

I wonder if they have hooks so that developers can interfere with the result (say adding passes).

Yeah but do I really want to buy an XBOX1 to play them?

Nope.

I personally think a lot of kids will go with the cheaper XBOX360 for the holiday season they're like 180.00 or a PS3 if you want good games for 10-20 dollars as well. The lions share of next gen console sales will then go to the PS4, no one wants to pay 600 dollars for Forza5 and DR3, but the spoiled. But yeah keep tooting that 2 game 600 dollar system hahahaha.

Why does everyone think the X1 is so much more?

Add the camera in, and you are talking a $40 difference between the two.

So yeah, keep tooting that 0 game 460 dollar system, hahahaha!

I can say that screenshots look worse than in-game. I was playing with that earlier.

Out of the million sold already probably 5% or less bought the camera I'd imagine. It's not something folks want so the comparison is flawed.

Killzone is actually good on both fronts (user and pro reviews), Knack has pretty good user reviews (I have the game and it's only something my son would care about).

Then of course the PS4 is the superior platform to play multiplatform titles.

I give credit where it's due, the One has a superior launch lineup bar none. However again if history is to be believed that should not be a deciding factor when making a decision like this. Dead Rising and Titanfall are both timed or Game exclusives and those series will eventually come to the PS4.

That again leaves Microsoft with Halo, Gears of War, and Forza.

I don't think people realize the significance of Microsoft abandoning the 360 over a year and a half ago. Between that and paying hundreds of millions of dollars for timed exclusives it's easy to see them for what they have in a clear light.

Outside FPS the 360 really had nothing for me last gen. I only played FPS and that was because my friends and coworkers played FPS on the 360. Single player was PS3, and overall last gen I felt that PS3 had better exclusives and overall better games. TLOU, and the Uncharted series were amazing, I love God of War as well, and the PSN games were far better than what 360 had.

To be honest, my ps3 and
xbox 360 never really generated as much fun as I had with the ps2 days. They had their moments, but few an far between. Here's hoping things change. I could also have become more grumpier with age lol

We're talking about the light on the controller here, not the system itself. And I'd assume anyone with a PJ is trying to play in complete darkness, PJs look like absolute shit with any other ambient light present.

That's it. Hopefully they implement a firmware update to turn the dumb light off.

You'd be surprised at how bright the stupid thing is.

I do think it's just age. After browsing a thread on reddit about how the PS3 generation was so good and he linked a picture of a couple hundred PS3 games he owned, I looked at my own collection. I own an unhealthy amount of games. But I noticed that I peaked out on the PSX generation, and have far fewer PS2 gen games, and barely any PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 games.

Anyone get their headset to work? Both mine and a friend's are broken. If you plug them in all the way, the system doesn't recognize it. If you back it out a bit then it'll pick it up but it still wont work.

Runs smooth, very responsive and battlefield looks incredible runs at 60 fps,i have a issue syncing my trophies but w.e its a launch system tell fix that soon. just got Ghost and Kill-zone on the way cant wait how killzones going to look, i could just imagine what uncharted will look like in the future

its kinda tough try using a little more force to snap it in place

yeah ok. Has the game released? Have you played? Oh and guess what, your COMPLETELY freaking wrong about its resolution in the first place. try again

I believe its 900p at ? FPS. No one has said anything about the FPS yet.I like the God of War type games with a really interesting story, Ryse has just that God of War mechanics with highly updated graphics and Roman based mythology which I am highly interested in. I am not a fanboy, I bought both the 360 and PS3 and have the PS4 while the Xbox One is preodered so I think I can safely say that you are just trolling.

Also since when did Graphics mean everything about how good a game is? Graphics are important but I would never discount a really good game just based on graphics.

yah my bad....its 1600x900 wow.... still not 1080p and it still is 30fps garbage

yah my bad its 1600x900 and they did say its 30fps heres proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8CfywZF8rE#t=537 and graphics arnt everything but this game is going towards making it look good, so your saying if the graphics sucked in ryse it would be good? it would be completly unplayable also i have 360 and ps3 also and im not buying another microsoft product in my life anymore

Well see if you just told us you had bad experience with the 360 then it would have made you more reasonable. I had plenty of RROD but the 360 was still a solid product. My PS3 fat has been rock solid since I got it. I like both and both are good in different ways. Though I laughed my ass off when MS did the 180.

lol, it happend to me 3 times when i just stopped caring, ps3 is still the same from day one,(have the fat 80gb) never one issue. the xbox one has nothing that i want and nothing good to offer this year so im not even going to bother. ill stick with ps4 and pc

Back on topic :

An issue I noticed when watching Netflix is that it doesn't go "Super HD" streaming very often. I have a more than robust connection (300 Mbps down 75 Mbps up) and yet when I boot up my PS3 Netflix happily goes "Super HD" on anything virtually and the difference is noticable. Might just be a bug but so far only one movie has gone "Super HD" that I've found. Amazon Prime also hard locked the PS4 first time I booted it up so I've decided not to bother with it until Sony updates the firmware further or Amazon updates its shitty unstable app. I had to pull the power plug to restart my console and that made me nervous as shit. So fair warning to anyone.

Also they MUST add format support for MP3/FLAC/MP4 ASAP. Not being able to listen to my library of music is bothersome when I just want to zone out. I have something like 75GB's of music and no way to access it on my PS4 while my PS3 can. Its not a critical feature to most people I know but its how I like to play my games from time to time and just stream music while not being forced to use proprietary software like Sony's own music streaming service (even with a 30 day pass).

And finally does anyone notice that the voice chat on the PS4 is a very low bit rate? I can't often hear people clearly and when I do it sounds like they are talking through laptop mics being forced through a 512k DSL connection. I'm using a pretty nice set of cans with a mic and while the game sounds fantastic .. voices sound like shit. Even on the 360 voice chat sounds pretty good , not vent/teamspeak quality but good enough. It seems like the PS4 varies the bit rate of chat greatly at times.

No problem for me with Amazon Prime, worked all day yesterday and I finally got NBA LP to run.

Not the first Titanfall. Respawn said it's never coming to PS4 but doesn't mean future titles won't.

I won’t be surprised about Dead Rising 3 on PS4 though. It is Capcom. They’ll make a iPad version if they though they make a buck.

I'm surprised Xbox fanboys praise Dead Rising 3 so much for a launch title. I thought the first 2 were terrible games.

On Xbox One there are two games worth playing: Forza 5 and Killer Instinct
On PS4 there are only two games worth playing: Killzone and Resogun

So I think it is pretty even (from my perspective). I still have to buy a PS4 since it is releasing on December 13 in my country. No date for XBONE

But I guess we will get the better units.

I did say timed or game exclusive, I'm not sure on DR3 so I added the timed exclusive part. I liked the premise of Dead Rising but the non serious aspect kept putting me off. I had both and just couldn't get into either one. They are going more serious with it this round but it's still childish.

Give me the concept of Dead Rising with the seriousness of TLoU and I'll buy it day one regardless of platform.

Or Day Z and Dead Rising, that would be awesome.

I just want to be able to play battlefield 4! Crashes immediately when loading it... Every time!

Other than that and psn being up and down its not bad.

Ended up getting Assassin's Creed 4 and Shadow Fall as a kinda gift...

Love em both, but AC4 kept my attention all weekend. Everything looks and plays real good. Warframe runs real nice, but I don't like how the melee works using controller. Also, being able to plug headphones in the controller and stream all game audio through it is EXACTLY what I was hoping for to work well. Very pleased with the PS4.

Picked one up yesterday for $200 after trading in my PS3 and some games. I also picked up AC4 and I'm liking it so far, I just wish the graphics were PS4 worthy. Environment is nice looking ,but character models look only a tad bit better than PS3. I'm assuming this will get better over time.

What's especially incredible about this is whoever pulled the trigger on this impulse buy to your benefit could have probably walked into their local Walmart and stood decent odds of finding a few leftover PS4s right there on the shelf.

Amazing.

For sure. I'm willing to take a guess and say that Walmart was probably one of (if not the only) the areas he could have gone to grab the console for $400 (or just hop across to New Hampshire for a 'sans sales tax' purchase. These were selling like mad on Friday/Saturday, so it's a good thing I got in before people decided to use their brains again. I'm hearing more shipments are coming this next week or so, but we'll see how that diminishes or perhaps doesn't even change by Christmas.

Considering the studly PC I see in your sig: Why?

Probably the same reason everyone else bought new systems, to have the new shiny thing on the market, haha. ;)

It'll get better when you grab the PC version, which is due out tomorrow! :)

I agree and I admit that I bought a PS4 just to have it. I have a PC that runs every game on ULTRA. I just felt the "need" to have it, lol. Also, there are some PS4 exclusive games that I want to play.

Well after spending a weekend with the PS4, it's a clear winner in my book.

The hardware is crazy small and seems to be engineered well overall. Remote play works like a dream. (I played Ass Creed on the shitter this weekend on the other side of the house :p)

IMO, the OS and UI are a huge improvement over the PS3. The social aspect of the console is pretty cool as well. The console really feels like a gaming machine.

Had a lot of fun this weekend playing Resogun Co-Op with some buddies. Also tried to get some time with Knack and Shadowfall, but my 7 month old kept my playing time in check.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend the system. The price, the focus, everything seems to be a home run, and with Sony's first party games coming up in the near future, I think Sony erased the failure of the PS3 launch with the PS4.

So after spending a weekend with my PS4, a list.

Games:
Resogun, it's simply a ball of fun, great little game, I love it.
Killzone 4, Completely different from previous Killzone titles, pretty good
AC4, not bad, same AC feel, I'm liking it a fair amount

Controller:
I want to fly to Japan to personally thank whoever designed that thing, best feeling controller I've held in a long time.
The Front light could blind someone if I'm not careful. Well, maybe not, but it is bright!

Console:
Does get warm to the touch, but I don't plan on sleeping on it, so I don't mind
Quiet, can't hear the thing at all

Others:
UI is nice and snappy
The touch pad in the middle is a button, which is neat, Also, it is used in Killzone 4 to control Owl, your robo-buddy.

After spending the past several days (for those of you who saw, I got mine early on Thursday morning), here are my high-level impressions:

  • The console hardware is very nice and compact, and looks good (the light strip is especially cool). It is, however, obviously not as expensively built as the OG PS3 and, although it defininitely doesn't feel "cheap", it doesn't have a high-end build quality. Where the original PS3 was an Aston Martin DB9, the PS4 is a Mitsubishi Lancer.
  • The controller is the best I've ever used including any after-market products. The ability to plug in you're own headphones is immense (although the only way I've found to control volume is in in-game options). It just feels right in your hands.
  • OS is an "evolution" of PS3's. Somehow, though, it seems like a step back in terms of UX design, almost like it's too netflix-y and designed for kids. The PS3's OS design, IMO, was a more elegant weapon for a more civilized time.
  • Some of the aspects of the OS and integral apps take obvious queues from Wii and Wii U. The first I saw the Playroom robots, I immediately thought it was a Mii rip-off.
  • Game graphics are expectedly nice. Killzone and AC4 about what you'd get from a mid-high end gaming PC. AC4 is particularly fun and I've had a couple of "woah" moments -- it is basically the PS3 version with higher native resolution and much better textures. I can't help but think, however, the system is going to be well-under-powered in two-three years compared to PCs (and even mobile offerings)
  • For those lamenting the lack of included physical game like in past consoles, the free-to-play games with PSN+ like Resogun, Contrast and DC Universe (my wife's only complaint being, "all the girl superheros' boobs are too big") are superb. I've spent much more time playing these than the games I've bought.
All in all, a good $400 spent IMO and I'm excited to see exclusives like GOW, Uncharted etc. (which are one of the primary reasons I bought the system for). I can't seem to shake this nagging feeling that the tech in the box is rather limited compared to where PS3 and Xbox 360 were when they were released; I fear that in two years, this thing is going to turn into a Netflix and Blueray player (like my PS3 and 360 did).

As for my reasons to get a PS4 over an Xbox One, they are many. Less powerful, don't like Xbox exclusives as much as PS, don't need another media hub, cost. All these things were pushing me towards PS4. What really sticks in my craw though is the fact that MSFT tried to force a restrictive environment on potential owners that goes against the core of what I believe is consumer rights. I don't care that they when back on these intended restrictions -- they lost a customer.

I don't have a PS4 (yet), but I'm also in the camp of people that love that controller. It's the best of both worlds. The analogs feel natural and aren't as "twitchy," plus the extra size and new triggers are great.

After playing with the PS4 a bunch this weekend. By far my favorite game so far is Knack :). I didn't expect it to be that but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised that I kept playing it for most of the time I was using the PS4. The controls are solid and very responsive, the platforming aspects are fun though the story is geared for younger people. The fight mechanics are very well done and it's not a generic beat em up but very timing sensitive which is probably why I like it. You'll have a hard time if you just spam the buttons to win versus if you can figure out the timing of how to properly deal with the situation. I'd recommend this game more than Killzone. The reviewer's complaining about the checkpoints is sort of right but not completely right. The game has saved to HD checkpoints and temporary checkpoints. So if you die, you go back to the nearest temporary checkpoint and there are a good number of them that I have seen, but if you quit the game, then you have to restart from the actual saved file checkpoint and those are much farther apart. It does kind of stink that you think you can quit out safely but then come back to discover you pretty much have to start from the beginning of the level you are at.

I only played a couple of hours of Killzone, but honestly to me it feels like a generic FPS. The story isn't gripping me either. But then again I am a bit biased on FPS games especially on console and generally like third person games more. The last FPS game I really liked was Skyrim but it was more of a RPG in a FPS setting so maybe that's why I liked it a lot.

Played Contrast (free on PSN) and it's a platforming title, with some interesting story telling mechanics. But overall, the controls need more polish. The character feels floaty and the controls don't seem "tight". There are bugs, and the character did get stuck in areas as I was playing. Most of the time I could dash and get out of it, but at least once I was stuck hard, and had to restart from a checkpoint.

Resogun (free on PSN) is a nice defender like shoot-em-up clone. Interesting game, and it uses the internal speaker of the controller to inform you of power ups and rescued humans etc... Overall a fun game for people that like shoot-em-ups. I'd recommend it also.

Assasin's Creed 4, well I like this game also even though I am renting it. But it plays like the other AC games I have played in the past. Though this one has a neat feature that can let you use a tablet or phone as a second screen with the Playstation app on it. I didn't get to use it because it requires you to login to uPlay to use (seriously WTF) but since it's a rental I don't have the code for the game so I couldn't try it. But I hope more games use that second screen feature for maps and stuff.

Overall my impressions of the PS4 is very positive. The controller is the best I have used, with the only minor quibble about the battery life being shorter than the previous model. The remote play feature is just so well integrated that I think it's the killer app for the machine. It is so flawlessly integrated with the Vita, and the games on the Vita screen are just so much nicer than native Vita games ;). This is how I always imagined how game streaming was suppose to work, not a service like OnLive cloud crap, but streaming games from my machine to my portable. It kind of makes me want a Nvidia Shield for PC games. The only minor quirk about using the Vita, is it's not as good a controller as the DS4, but it's nice to know I can be in the middle of a game, and if someone wants to use the big screen, I just have to fire up the Vita and keep on playing with almost no interruption other than time it takes for the PS4 and Vita to connect to each other.

I think it's more annoying that everyone feels the need to post about how they aren't going to be buying one.

Why is a PS4 first impression thread filled with talk of xbox one exclusives?

They can't help themselves.

Here is my take so far...

+ Awesome controller, while similar to previous Dualshocks, it feels completely different. I used it a bunch with headphones plugged in as well, worked well
+ Smooth UI and everything loads pretty fast. When I press the PS button, the UI opens immediately. Going from a game to Hulu and then back to the game is almost instant.
+ Great graphics. Though admittedly, I started off pretty "meh" on the visuals. Then I set my TV to 1:1 pixel mapping and disabled all of the stupid TV post processing shit. Now it is just straight 1080P from the console to the display. Killzone and Resogun look really impressive

- Wonky UI. It is smooth, but I miss the game splash screens from the PS3. There is a lot of stuff I don't want to look at in the UI and you can't get rid of it. Also, I totally don't get how I was looking at the game manuals and stuff two days ago, and now I can't get that to show up at all.
- Killzone. Terrible level design, unclear objectives at some points, magically spawning enemies, and a bad save system with checkpoints ranging between 45 seconds to 20 minutes apart. Overall it is fun and I like the gunplay, but they should have done better
