a guide to building a pc

Honestly, I'd say just jumping right in, or having a friend help you out would be the best way to learn. It is a lot easier than you might think.
 
Check the stickied GenHard FAQ. There are a ton of links in there on how to build a PC.

Yes! This is what I used to help me with my first build (Which I just completed a month ago, and it's running great right now!). So definitely read all of that, go to the links, etc. You will find some guides with pictures in that link also. I looked them all over a few times to familiarize myself with the parts. The forum is also great for any advice you need, of course. I couldn't have completed my build if it weren't to many of the people on here who dedicate their time to helping out other people.
