what would you guys recommend, should i abandon my pc and get a imac or should i forget the imac and buy a new 980x intel processor?

I think doing either is stupid idea. imacs have a purpose and its not for gaming & a 980x is extremely over priced

Not compared to it's Xeon hex core and octo core cousins, lol (gulftown&beckton)

arcr: what are you going to use it for? Certain apps do better on certain systems.

i know if i go imac, i will have to giveup on games, just internet and multimedia is good enough for me. and about the 980x, i dont oc.

The i7-980X is a foolish choice, especially if you don't overclock. The only two reasons you should be looking at an i7-980X are either a friend is giving it to you for (practically) nothing or you won it in a contest.

For gaming, any modern quad-core processor would be enough, regardless of whether you're looking at Intel or AMD processors. Hell, looking at the specs in your sig, you would be better served by overclocking the i7-920 to around 3.4GHz or considering a second GTX 470 to use in SLI mode.

If you really want a hex-core, either consider the AMD X6es or wait for Sandy Bridge to arrive. I don't anticipate the i7-970 or i7-980X to be dropping in price any time soon.

A friend of mine just got the 980X over the 970 as it was cheaper at Newegg.ca :)

Well what are you going to be doing & are you considering selling the current pc in Sig for an imac. I think its a dumb idea personally. I am not a fan of imacs at all

mp3s, mpegs videos, documents, msoffice, pictures, thats multimedia to me.

In that case, zero reason to go with the iMac if you have a perfectly working PC. Zero reason to upgrade to the 980X.

So basically, stay with your current PC. Going the two routes you mentioned are colossal wastes of money

Keep that money in your pocket, the machine is perfectly fine for your needs.

No reason to upgrade unless you've got a bunch of money laying around doing nothing, and even then: still not worth it.

I have no idea why you would abandon your rig as it is. if you go imac its a waste & if you buy a 980x its a waste, so you lose either way. The rig you have is solid & if you feel like tossing away cash like that hook me up I could use a new video card :)
