I went to a FX5200 from a 9800pro because I am selling some stuff so I can save for a new computer.
  • I uninstalled all the ATI drivers
  • I took out the 9800 pro and put the FX5200 in
  • Booted fine, installed the latest nVidia drivers (77.72), rebooted.
  • Started CS:S but it gives me these three erros in succession:
    capture18fd.jpg

    capture27bd.jpg

    capture33zd.jpg
  • Then it closes.

I have DirectX 9c installed.

What is going on?

One of the guides at the top of the vid forum gives you real instructions on how to do this.

Oh. Sorry about that. I will look for it now. Thanks.

I am stupid.

I should have looked at the stickies first. :(

That's going to be a painful downgrade regardless of how many extra $$ you'll get.

That card might as well be incapable of playing any game made in the last year. My friend, you have my sympathies. :(

I think you're going to need lots of hugs... *lots of hugs* try not to cry. 9800pro to fx5200...that's like when I play on friend's computers with x800xts and then come home to my stupid fx5700 (which is getting replaced soon enough!)

Still getting the errors for CS:S and HL2.

And now my computer will hang on detecting the IDE during boot. When it does get past that, it will not see my DVD drive, but it sees my CDR which is on the same channel.

Sometimes it will even hang for a while during boot for it to detect the proc and ram. :(

Odd.

I think I am going to just back everything up and do a house cleaning on my drives and reinstall everything, starting with the OS of course.

It has been almost three years since my last reinstall of XP. I have to go find how to save all the settings and bookmarks and stuff like that. (crap...I have to find all my fonts that I bought too. :( ) This would be easier if it would see my DVD burner.

I did get it to play the Delta Force Xtreme Demo, ran....like..... crap, ugh. Even with everything on low and at 800x600, it was chugging. I hadn't realized that the 9800pro did as well as it does in HL2 and such.

I'm not upgrading until December or January. So I am stuck with the FX5200 til then. :(

my friends has the exact same issues with his 5200ultra, not sure of brand...

um that video driver issues... i had teh same problem, i fixed it by the color correction thing.

I dont see how any of that could be due to video card problems...

But I guess anything is possible. I still think it sounds like a dying motherboard.

~Adam

I shure as heck hope it isn't a mobo problem...I just bought this one in January.

I put the 9800pro back in last night and installed the drivers....worked in CS:S just fine.

I put in an old ATI Radeon 7000 32mb card and it ran CS:S (super crappy, but it ran).

I don't get it.

Color correction thing? The wizard? I went through that and it didn't do anything.

I guess I have to just reinstall XP. *sigh*

That means hunting for all the drivers that I need. :(

(can you even back up your settings for XP? Like folder options and stuff like that?)

Reinstalling directx wont help the system boot properly.

Keep the 9800pro in and restart a couple times see if it botos up improperly...

~Adam

It hung during boot for the same thing with every card I put in it. I was up last night until about 8am this morning..working on the yard and then this computer..I was up for 25.5 hrs straight. :(

Sometimes it would do a hard stop at detecting the IDE channel, but when it hung on the proc and memory detection...it would eventually go ahead and finish booting.

EDIT***

I thought about reinstalling DirectX 9c, but I read online that uninstalling it is a pain and may lead to total system hang. I would rather not do that until I have everything set to reinstall windows if I have to.

Thankfully, I gave Windows it's own partition. So reinstalling shouldn't be that hard. (I have to reinstall the chipset drivers right?)

You've used driver cleaner in safe mode? If that didn't fix it, reinstalling XP is your best bet.

Of course it could also be a CS error. Is only CS giving you problems? or do other games screw up too? You could try reinstalling CS.

Of course back it up first so you don;t have to redownload everything.

Yup, Drive Cleaner was used in safemode twice over each time I changed cards.

I only have CS:S and a Delta Force Xtreme demo installed, and CS:S is the only one that gives me the problem.

I will try the reinstall of STEAM and the games tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't even think of reinstalling STEAM (HL2, CS:S).

After messing around, trying to fix a problem like that for a while, I get fed up and reformat.

I don't know if a reformat would help you in this case, but it is definately worth a shot.

You have problems OUTSIDE OF SOFTWARE, are you hard of hearing?

If when you boot up you get hangs before windows is loaded HOW COULD IT BE A WINDOWS PROBLEM??? IT can't.

HARDWARE ISSUE!

Thanks for pointing that out, I guess I missed that.

np

I still think it has more to do with motherboard. But I'd suggest trying to switch out parts and restarting alot.

~Adam

The IDE thing started before the card swapin'. The hang on the CPU and RAM detect started after the card swaping.

I doubt it is a hardware problem. I think it has to do more with some corrupt drivers, display and chipset drivers most likely.

Anyway, I am going to wait until Friday to start on it.

Dude there are no friggin drivers loaded when you are in the bios... Did you not get that when I said "THE OS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM"? Drivers don't load until the OS loads... if there is a problem at bootup, it's a Hardware problem.... End of discussion.

~Adam

In bootvis it show drivers loading before the OS. Drivers do load before the OS. I don't know what kind of voodoo you are running though.

When you see the detection of IDE drives/cpu/ram the vid drivers haven't been loaded yet and that's what we are talking about here. At that time it's still bios drivers.

FIXED THE GAME PROBLEM!!!!!

also if you have trouble with any games... do this:

Start Menu
Run
type in "regedit"
(Go to File: Export, and Export "All" registry files before doing this, just in case you delete something wrong and it messes up something.) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{F5857C38-087A-4CD1-98DD-D4DF85D1A681}\0000 (You will have other numbers instead of those, but click on the "0000" folders) and in one of the 0000 folders you will have a huge list of games, find _(gamenamehere) code and delete them. Ex. _hl2, _farcry, etc. My half life 2 wouldnt run and this fixed it. (I had 2 _hl2 codes and I deleted both of them)

YAY IT WORKS!

Also, on a "screw this I don't give a rip" hunch....I reinstalled my chipset drivers and restarted 10 times.....NO HANGS!!! YAY! :D

The boot problems sound to me like you have some hardware setup issues. RAM, CPU and IDE detection in the BIOS happens before any OS or OS drivers are loaded. If you're buggy there, you're screwed.

For the IDE thing, pull out your drives, check the cable and jumpers and then plug everything back together. If that doesn't fix it, try an new cable, if that doesn't fix it, try running them on separate channels or switching which is master and which is slave.

It sounds like you may be having a vist from Major Issues. You'll want to get that cleaned up before the software issues. HL2 broken with other 3d apps working is software. Not booting is hardware.

G'Luck,

Edit: Congrats on the fix bro.

Cool, glad you fixed it.

CleanSlate... what was that you were saying? It had nothing to do with software? :p

Thank you everyone for the tips and suggestions. If something like this comes up again, I now know several things to try. :)

It's rediculous when people say stuff like this.

I had a 5200, upgraded to a 6600GT, then had to sell that and am
currently using a 5200 again until I can get a better card in a week or so.

I was able to play (and highly enjoy) Doom 3, Half-Life 2, etc. just fine.

My $20 still says it's a hardware problem and perhaps corrupt drivers were only a symptom, still think it's the motherboard.

I agree.

Motherboard is fine. I have ran it through 2 days of testing and it all checks out. No hangs at all since I reinstalled the drivers. :)

That does not explain the problems on bootup, drivers have nothing to do with detection of IDE drives. That is a bios function.

They do when it is the drivers for your IDE channels that were borked. Reinstalling the drivers fixed it. I don't understand why you can't except that.

Anyway...issue resolved. Thanks to everyone that had suggestions and offered help. :)

I dont think you understand that the drivers you "fixed" were windows drivers... windows drivers are loaded when windows loads.

As you explained it in a former post... when you booted up and were still in the bios start up screen you had IDE detection problems, your windows IDE drivers had not been loaded and have nothing to do with the detection of IDE drives by the bios.

I honestly dont know how much simpler I can put it.

For all deductive reasoning I can pull out of my mind, you haven't fixed anything but a windows problem with that fix you posted. Maybe you changed something in the bios or reset the bios as well as that windows driver fix? Other than that you are still faced with IDE detection problems which points deductively to motherboard or psu issues.
