I'd spend an extra $20-$40 and double (or almost triple) your HD size with a Seagate Barracuda.
 
i dont think so im looking on a site called ibuypower.com i might just buy 2x 6600gts is that a good combo or should i go 7800 gt??

Go one 7800GT then upgrade later, trust me, right now ONE 7800GT is good enough to play at high iq and at decent framerates. Add another 7800GT later, omg, :p

stay the hell away from ibuypower.com, their systems are great, but their parts system is terrible! It took over a month for me to get my RMA back! And that's only because they got sick of my calling them!

if i wanted to play like quake 4 can i with good frame rates and everything on that 6800 gt??
 
A 6800GT AGP or PCI-E can handle any game you throw at it. Just OC it a bit, is my suggestion. Most all GTs oc' to 6800 Ultra speeds easily, so it wouldnt be a bad processor to go with. Although, the 7800GT/X has 24 pixel pipelines instead of 16, and all the other things that make it a much better processor than the 6800 GT. SLI? I dont think so, at least not yet. I havent come across ONE game that even my single AGP 6800 GT cant handle, I really dont think SLI will be necessary with something as powerful as a 7800GT/X.
 
Just my personal opinion, but ditch the maxtor HDD.

I work with these little buggers everyday, they are very suseptable to heat and die quite readily. The HDD checking tools are the worst I have encountered.

I'm sure many people love them, and a lot of folks save cash buying a cheap HDD but my advice is stay away.
 
I've had great luck with Maxtor drives, but I do recommend something bigger than that 100 gigger.

Western Digital is very good too. Seagate drives have a good rep for running cool and quiet, but are finicky when it comes to how you set them up sometimes.

Finicky? It's simple, no slave = no problem :)
Don't run slave drives anyhow, they kill your performance :D

Drop the Corsair XMS for some G.Skill value, drop the 4200+ to a 3800+, drop the SLi motherboard for an A8N-E, and get the 7800GT and an XP-90 and overclock your cpu past 4200+ speeds.

Looking good. Excellent HD choice. Drop the 6800GT and get the 6800GS. It's a little more powerful and'll actually save you a good $50-$75.

Actually, the there have been many 7200.8's reported to have failed recently.
 
7800GT ftw...or at least get a 6800GS if you don't want to spend the money. The 6800GT is overpriced.
 
Woah this $900 rig has shot up in price.

I would expect a very good system to cost about $1200-1300, but $1600? Damn that's too much of a price increase from the original $900.

Your money, but if you originally wanted to spent $900 I would try and trim the fat a little. You just got to figure out the "opportunity cost" of the current extra $700.

Good luck with the rig, glad you dropped the Maxtor.
 
I would try to find an Opteron 165 or 170 instead of the X2. Might have a lower stock clock speed, but double the cache. You cant make up for cache by OC'ing, and you'll be able to get 2.4-2.5, and probably as high as 2.6-2.8. The 165 would be harder to take up to 2.8 (provided both cores are stable at that speed) because you'd need to hit at least 300htt.
Also, consider getting a WD or Maxtor 16mb cache hdd instead of the Seagate.
 
get the 7800gt....do not get the 6800gt/gs....my freinds 6800ultra is playing games quite slowly even though his is heavily oc'ed...you wont see the age on the 7800gt for a long time, and trust me youll need it for FEAR and Quake 4 and Cod 2 etc etc etc
 
it costs too much now, 1600$ hell, i could build to computers with it. i second the above to trim the price a little.

I am going to toss an extra ATA controller card into a spare slot and move some of the drives over to it I think. I want to add another 650 or so gigs of storage anyway, so that I can reorganize my files, start getting more into my anime addiction, and play around with linux more.
 
so what do u guys sugjest that i can do to cut down on price but still have a reall good gaming pc
