7970 Purchasing Thread

Im just waiting for tiger direct right now... hopefully they post in a minute or so.

I hope I do, :p

This is my first time ever buying a cutting edge computer hardware xD so im sure I will love it.

Well its 7AM over in PST land, hopefully we start seeing tracking numbers within the hour :D

That 30 will seem huge for a few days, then it will become 'normal', and you'll want even more ;D

gone already? Don't see any in stock.

I'm really missing my crossfired MSI 7970 Lightnings right about now :\

God is that true. Also, sitting down to a 1080p for the first time after you're used to your 30 will also be quite a shock. It's just...so tiny...

Did anyone happen to see the pricing there? MSRP, or did they supersize the price ala amazon?

It's a joke. He linked really old ones... The Mac's comment was directed at the HIS that showed on the 'egg for a second.

i was refering to the HIS on newegg...

the TD was a joke, they were the old 7000 series from long ago...

HIS cards were back-up for a second on New Egg. I just ordered one of those as well as a safe-gap. I don't know what i'll do with two cards. I guess I'll be RMAing one or selling one depending on the market for it lol.

Newegg must of had like 1 or 2 HIS cards then lol

Heh, I just want one period now... guess you were right ;). I went AFK for a minute to make a quick sandwich and BAM, come back to see that was in-stock briefly.

So any predictions on whether this is what we'll see for awhille from newegg, or if there will be a somwhat imminent (days to week) second wave of stock?

when the 6950s came out, it was a day or two after launch before i could get my hands on one..

if i had to guess, newegg being a high volume supplier, they will probobly get new stock every few days...

Yeah, I'm just wondering why no one else at all has them in stock so far .

yeah that's a little goofy. and no MSI stock listed anywhere either.

Thats the one that's still puzzling me. Late to the table by MSI or something else going on...Its a shame too, because I've had good experiences with MSI for gpus lately and would've happily bought from them.

It's been a while since I bought a gpu at launch, I finally have the money and the need to upgrade and the gpu is unavailable lol

Yeah, they're the brand I wanted, too.

Yeah I just got a 120Hz 27" 1080p... takes getting used to next to my ZR30w. The 120Hz is great for gaming though... can't decide what monitor I'll stick with for games... if only we had a 30" 120Hz 1600p option

I just recently got the Asus VG236HE 120 hz display. While it's a bit smaller than my Apple display, there is no comparison. Games are soooo much better on a 120 hz display. And yeah, I also wish there was a 2560x1440/1600 120 hz display.

The thing that puzzles me is how much difficulty my tri-fire 6900's are having running games at a solid 120fps. On the ZR30w, I had no problems maintaining a constant 60fps on all Ultra settings if I kept AA off. With this 1080p monitor, I am averaging maybe 75-85 fps. I have to turn settings to high and AA to 2x to get abopve 100fps, and it constantly dips down to 60fps or lower...

I hope the 7970's will fix that. 3GB frame buffer should help with AA, no? I must have at least 4x AA at 1080p, no AA just looks like ASS.... and running a 120Hz monitor at anything less than 100+ FPS is kind of pointless.

8pst and still no tracking number :(

Wow dude...have you EVER ordered anything from the egg before?

Tracking numbers are usually NOT issued until the afternoon, or around noontime at the earliest.

They're never issued this early in the morning.
I mean hell, it's not even business hours at most companies yet...its not even 9 am yet.

Yeah, that's the drawback of 120 hz displays. To get the most out of it, you'll want to see your games running close to/at least 120 fps and that takes a lot more horsepower than running games at 60 fps on a 2560x1440/1600 display. Hence, you'll need to upgrade your cards.

Yeah, my understanding is that more AA applied to a game requires more video RAM. I remember on my 5970, when I increased the AA in games, my games would choke. Once I upgraded to 6970's, applying more AA didn't choke the same games anymore.

Iv ordered lots from newegg and have recived tracking numbers from anywhere from 12:01am to 11:59pm :p

Well let's hope 2 7970's will outperform my 6990+6950 triple GPU setup on my 120Hz. :) Had no idea I would need such horsepower for a measly 1080p... even at double the frames.

Oh, how much I wish there was a 120hz 2560x1600. Although, when you think about it, a single screen like that would need a quad-gpu solution to drive it alone (at least to do it even reasonably well)...not sure that's a bad thing, as I could finally really justify it. :p

I'm pretty sure two 7970's will give you better performance than your current setup. If not, two overclocked 7970's most certainly will. I'd bet money on it.

OK tiger... any time now... please list them today or this is going to be one huge waste of time.

Tell me about it. They need to go up soon, or I'll probably miss them.

They waiting for something? Forget what day it was? I dunno.

WAHOOOOO gigabyte came back for a second and I got it with shoprunner 2-day! :D

EDIT: Must have been 1-2 of 'em because it already is out of stock again now .

EDIT 2: Must have missed it, just got an "OOS cancelled" email .

Ah man, that blows

Ordered 2x Sapphire 7970 at 9:35pm EST last night, still shows as charged though. Think I'm safe or should I expect a VOID email?

Ah man, that blows

Was so excited, too... I actually got an error on first submission saying my shoprunner session had timed out so it took me an extra second relogging into that :(. /sigh
