7970 Purchasing Thread

Are you telling me I can game with my PLP 20x30x20 setup now????

Can't remember where I saw it, but I did see a blurb about Eyefinity 2.0 and it had a 20x30x20 setup in landscape mode eyefinity including flexible bezel compensation....

only 15 HIS left, Sapphire still has stock. they're selling pretty quickly.

The Sapphire are selling fast so better order now cause they'll be gone in the morning unless Newegg gets more stock tomorrow.

Amazon... tigerdirect... :). I'm holding for Amazon tonight to get $4 overnight shipping :D and hopefully another shot at the XFX Black or Asus/Gigabyte/MSI cards.

I *FINALLY* found a review with a noise-level comparison video... lets you get a good idea of the tonal qualities of the reference card between normal as well as crossfire:

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/revie...d-7970-graphics-card-review-introduction.html

I was worried it might be a whiny/high-pitched or just plain obnoxious tone but it's actually more of a "whoooooooooooooosh" type noise... which is much less annoying even when louder.

Nice find. A whoosh of air is a lot better then a high pitch squel or shop vac noise. Guess we will all find out in a couple of days.

Ships in 1-3 weeks and it's $50 over the norm for that model.

Probably just because they're not allowed to sell them yet.

I remember it was the same situation with the 6900's, but I managed to get a 6950 at MSRP on launch day.

Yep, been refreshing that link the last few hours :).

Use this search string to filter out all the non-7970 crap: amazon

I have it on a 2 min auto-refresh timer :)

edit: apparently tinyurl doesn't work here, changed it

I used

AMD+7970 +"PCI-E" -6970 -4870 -5870 -book

to remove everything off the top except the 7970s

For those concerned about shipping, I signed up for the shop runner free trial. Two day free shipping on two Sapphire 7970 cards and I just got notification from Fatwallet about my astounding 1.3% paypal cashback

Unless and until my GTX 580 joins the flood on the sale forum, I can use it for a physx card.

Now to buy water cooling supplies and a new case to put it all in. Rosewill Blackhawk-Ultra or CaseLabs Magnum T10... decisions decisions

Sapphire cards are drying up on newegg. 16 Sapphire left, 7 HIS left. newegg has 23 cards left.

nothing up on amazon... was hoping for some 6GB sapphires. Off to bed so I can wake up early... although with my luck they'll release at PST.

Hardware Canucks has some slide decks and better pics of that XFX dual-fan card.

Newegg is drying up fast. Was going to pick up two Sapphire or Asus. So much for that. Hopefully Amazon has some up for sale soon.

Think ill hold out for some overclocked 7970's.

Would love to see an MSI hawk, or Sapphire Atomic edition.

Damn things need to hurry up and be available in canada AWAY from newegg <_<

interesting. so it looks like XFX will have the following lineup:

HD 7970 3GB CORE Edition
ref card, 925/1375

HD 7970 3GB BLACK EDITION
binned chip, 1000/1375, 2oz copper PCB, solid capacitors

HD 7970 3GB Double Dissipation (DD) Edition
non-binned chip, 925/1375, dual fan non-reference HSF

HD 7970 3GB Black Edition Double Dissipation (DD) (the one currently offered on newegg)
binned chip, 1000/1425, 2oz copper PCB, solid capacitors, dual fan non-reference HSF

It took a few months for Sapphire to do the special editions, even the Vapor-X, for both 5xxx and 6xxx cards. It was a real killer when the 5970 Toxic came out just a month and a half after I bought a regular 5970
