Has anyone gotten to play Arkham City and Skyrim with their new 7970 yet? Single configuration? I upgraded from a 6950 and it seems like skyrim and arkham city stutter worse now. In skyrim, if I happen to pan the camera fast it will stutter and in arkham city it's really the same thing. Just wanting to make sure I don't need to reinstall windows or anything. Valve games run smooth, witcher 2 on ultra runs smooth, and so does Battlefield 3. Those two games just seem to run really badly. Also, skyrim is up to date. I'm also hoping arkham city just wasn't coded well for amd like it might've been for Nvidia? Thanks for any comments.

I ended up lowering the detail level down to very high in batman and it seems to be playing smoother with a little stutter here and there. And as for skyrim, I think that's a known problem. But even in windowed mode, it still stutters. Oh well. Just wanted to post an update.
Sorry, guys, I read the topic below mine, the DX9 game problems. Mod may close thread if they wish.

I have no problems in skyrim.

I just got done installing a single 7970 in my brother's rig and had no problems with Skyrim. I played it for a few hours and it was pretty smooth. And he has modded the hell out of it with pretty much every high res enhancement recommended by the S.T.E.P. project (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11). Trees, terrain, water, sky, clouds, animals, armors, furniture, cutlery, weapons, rocks, grass you name it he has it in high res and still pulls about 50fps. The game is severely CPU limited because running it at 8xAA + 16xAF gives the same framerate as 4xAA+16xAF.
Arkham city equally smooth, I had it running at max tesselation + HBAO + 8XAA and still get 60fps average using the game built-in benchmark.

Edit: This is all at 1920x1200

you should be using the AMD 1/19 web driver RC11. Do not use any 6xxx driver. Also, make sure CCC is setup right, everything application preference and don't do anything dumb like enabling super sampling. Leave it at multi sampling.

What do you mean set up right? Everything application preference? Thanks for the feedback guys.

I have no problems in skyrim.

Depends where you are in Skyrim, go into a dungeon or cave with lots of mages casting spells at you and the performance is very choppy on my PC, and I don't even use ultra settings.

When they first put out a BETA patch for Skyrim it increased FPS in cities nicely, and introduced stuttering outdoors. The last update they put out got rid of it.

I'm running the ultra preset with no tweaking @ 1920x1200. With the latest patch everything is smooth. I'm using 11.12 (8.921.2-120119a-132101E-ATI).

My game was smooth without the BETA patch, then it stuttered outdoors with the first BETA patch I tried, and now it's back to smooth in all conditions with the latest BETA.

This problem is solved by dxtory or MSI Afterburner in Skyrim.

In counter strike once FPS goes over 1000 the game stutters, so annoying I had to cap it :)

Thanks you all for the tips. I have dxtory and I tried capping it at 120, because I have a 120hz monitor, but looks like I need to try 60.
Skyrim is designed to be run at no more than 60fps. any higher and it can screw up things from within the game.

There is an in-engine fpsmax command to do this in the source engine. You don't even need third party software.

I'm just surprised yours goes up to 1000. The default engine setting caps it at 300...

I just did an entire playthrough of Arkham City on my 7970 at 2560x1600, no stuttering it ran really nice.

I have my card OC'ed to 1070/1500 though.

Could be due to VSync. If you're right on the edge of 60 FPS it will drop back and forth to 30, which can create a stuttering effect.

Then why is there no vsync option in the game? Skyrim runs at well over 100fps here so vsync is off.
Skyrim has a 60fp cap doesn't it?

EDIT: Note that in Skyrim a form of Vertical Synchronization (VSync) is enabled by default, and cannot be disabled using the in-game settings. This means your framerate will be capped to your refresh rate (typically 60 FPS), and you may also experience mouse lag. Several alternatives for dealing with this form of VSync are covered in the Advanced Tweaking section of the guide.

EDIT 2: for some reason the link will not work. Hardforum deletes the "geforce .com" part of the address.

I have my card OC'ed to ccc limits. I wonder if my stuttering is due to me switching from an 8800 nvidia card after my 6950 died though it stuttered in those games as well.

Edit 1: Yeah, Arkham City is a stuttery mess on my 7970. Wonder if it just needs to be reinstalled. Or maybe I should do a clean install of win 7 with this new card.

I'll just say that's what I did, and it didn't make a difference.

Saw a review with quad 7970 playing that game and it was unbearable. Just shitty ass drivers :(

Are you using the ones from the disk or new ones? Are there new ones?

You should be using the 1/19 AMD driver RC11, this is the only driver to use (ie the best one). Secondly, like others have said dxtory or msi afterburners osd fps limit at 60 will fix it.

Lastly, you cannot disable vsync in skyrim. The framerate is tied to the physics engine and if you disable vsync your physics will be all wack - this happens on all gpu's regardless of brand.

And regarding Arkham City, I have to disable the DX11 stuff. Not a pleasant experience otherwise. But I guess the same is true on NV stuff, too.

I think I tweaked it when the game first came out so vsync is off on my copy or else I wouldn't get 100+ FPS. I will go turn it on though because that explains the funky physics I sometimes see. I just can't remember how I turned it off in the first place. :p

I did a clean install of windows just to rule it out. Not as tedious as I thought it'd be. I might report back later today to see if that fixed it or not.
