So far, it's looking good .

Crysis Bench:

43.55FPS DX10 1920x1200, 4xAA

Unigine:

36.6FPS 1920x1200, 4xAA, Extreme tesselation

Vantage:

In Crysis, it looks to be about 35-40% faster than the 5870 and about 25-30% faster than the GTX 480. I'm excited :D.

All credit for finding these goes to Silverforce11 @ Anandtech: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=30366656&postcount=145

It's always sad day when your card isn't the top of the numbering scheme series anymore :(

20% faster than GTX 480 in Unigen must mean ATI Tesselation improved dramatically.

Phase two complete.

Can it play Crysis? Yes, yes it can :D

Will be interested to see if an increase in shader count is to thank (in part) for the increased Crysis performance.

If I had to guess, I'd attribute it more to the re-designed shaders (now 2+2 configuration instead of 1+4). I guess we'll find out soon enough though :D.

If the 6850 delivers 5870+ performance at a 5850 price, count me in for 2.

I want to believe this. I really do. But I have been lied to too many times before.

That is smoking performance.
As long as the price is right, I might be looking at a 6850.

We should all go onto Andatech and ask the poster to test out FF14's new benchmark tool just for fun :D.

Good numbers, I wonder how nVidia will keep up.

Although I'm more interested in the budget/midrange cards - specifically the 6670 (assuming they keep with previous x670s).

I don't have a 5xxx, so tell me... Are the drivers really that bad?

For some, yes. There are many a thread about how the last 4-5 releases have lowered performance and introduce bugs which can be bad enough to render the card unusable for games. Most people though, like myself, aren't having any issues, but it's kind of a gamble at the moment.

I honestly don't care about the benchmarks for the most part. My current PC is fast enough for the games I play. I just want video cards to go back to not requiring two slots. Recently, I've wanted to add another card to my computer, but because of the video cards, I have several blocked PCI-e slots.

I haven't had any issues yet either, but I'd like to see them focus on the consistency of their drivers and CrossFire performance. If they can at least nail those two issues, things would be looking much better for them.

You can't complain about video cards not being single slot and then buy video cards that put out over 300W of heat each at load. Hypocritical, no?
4870X2's are just barely two years old, and in that time AMD created a single chip that can do the work of those four. There are very few industries that make that kind of progress. Also, what are your Crysis Bench scores like?

Not hypocritical. I'm stating that I'm fine with the speed of current cards, but want them to be more efficient in terms of power usage, heat, etc so they don't take up multiple slots. I realize there are cards out there now, but they're significantly weaker than what I'd consider acceptable for myself.

Well one of the best ways to get that across to companies is to vote with your wallet - buying two of the hottest and loudest graphics cards available that take a "no holds barred" approach to absolute performance certainly doesn't say that.

The rumors I hear are that the 6870 will be a 2GB card - very god news as far as I am concerned.

While I'm sure there will be a 2GB 6870, the baseline config will probably have 1GB. The reports/rumors is that AMD will be using 7 Gbps GDDR5, which are expensive chips. Putting 2GB is going to raise the price dramatically, without offering tangible performance increase in the majority of situations. For people who are going to be running in ultra high resolutions, we'll probably see an Eyefinity edition like what we have now for the 5870.

i cant wait for the lowend stuff to come out. once i can pick up another 5770 for 75 or so, im going to xfire them.

more efficient? current cards now are 3-5 times faster then an 8800GT and use LESS power then it.. so wheres this efficiency problem?

7Ghz not 7Gbps.. as far as cost goes it shouldnt be a big deal since ATI/AMD are the primary investors in the creation/development of GDDR5 so other then the cost of producing the chips they shouldnt be paying to buy them so its win win for them and the customer..

though i really hope they are using the 7Ghz chips.. man those things would be beasts..

You have a good point there. The extra memory wouldn't be a performance boost worth the money.

It will be at 2560x1600+. I think the 6870 might finally be the card that has the horsepower to put 2GB of RAM to good use.
